Meh, I may as well give the extension now since I don't see any way it won't be needed, lmao (and I want to leave as much room as possible for EDM Faves Volume 2 to finish revealing before this rankdown starts revealing). New due date is November 2, which means you once again have 2 weeks and 1 day to submit. I think this post will get us to the second page, and that ensures the final set of pre-reveal extras won't make the first page unloadable, hah

I've started on this one, just need to take care of my modern rock top 100 first.

Ok, finally have the opportunity to post the last set of pre-reveal extras. These 20 are going to center around all the remaining artists in the extras who have rock chart rankdown histories. Some, like Billy Idol, Billy Squier, and AC/DC, will obviously be ranked again at some point in the last 4 years of the Mainstream Rock chart. This fact may have been pointed out when we were ranking "Dirty Water" in 1987, but yes, "The Payolas" was one of Rock & Hyde's old names. year-end position | Song | Artist | Video | Peak | Weeks | chart points | 244 | Don't Run Wild | The Del Fuegos | {Spoiler} | 46 | 4 | 9 | 238 | Sink the Pink | AC/DC | {Spoiler} | 44 | 4 | 20 | 233 | Modern Girl | Meat Loaf | {Spoiler} | 41 | 3 | 23 | 227 | You're the Only Love | The Payolas | {Spoiler} | 37 | 4 | 38 | 222 | Tenderness | General Public | {Spoiler} | 39 | 4 | 45 | 220 | Everybody's Crazy | Michael Bolton | {Spoiler} | 38 | 7 | 49 | 206 | Stop! | Jon Butcher Axis | {Spoiler} | 31 | 6 | 98 | 201 | Eye on You | Billy Squier | {Spoiler} | 29 | 5 | 90 | 178 | Catch My Fall | Billy Idol | {Spoiler} | 24 | 7 | 123 | 173 | Let the Music Do the Talking | Aerosmith | {Spoiler} | 18 | 10 | 132 |

And here's the other half. Again, artists like Santana, KISS, and Kenny Loggins are making their returns soon enough. "Lie for a Lie", the song from the Pink Floyd/10cc sideproject collaboration Profiles, is only in this section because of the presence of David Gilmour, whose song "On An Island" was ranked in 2006 Active. year-end position | Song | Artist | Video | Peak | Weeks | chart points | 166 | Lie for a Lie | Nick Mason & Rick Fenn with David Gilmour | {Spoiler} | 21 | 7 | 144 | 156 | Tore Down a La Rimbaud | Van Morrison | {Spoiler} | 19 | 8 | 155 | 145 | Vox Humana | Kenny Loggins | {Spoiler} | 18 | 8 | 186 | 138 | Wake up (Next to You) | Graham Parker & the Shot | {Spoiler} | 19 | 10 | 198 | 132 | If I Had a Rocket Launcher | Bruce Cockburn | {Spoiler} | 16 | 8 | 206 | 131 | Tears Are Falling | KISS | {Spoiler} | 20 | 9 | 207 | 125 | Motorcycle Girl | Cruzados | {Spoiler} | 15 | 10 | 238 | 123 | Look at Little Sister | Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble | {Spoiler} | 17 | 10 | 243 | 115 | Say It Again | Santana | {Spoiler} | 15 | 11 | 263 | 103 | Say It Isn't So | The Outfield | {Spoiler} | 18 | 13 | 294 |

So I'm going to be really spamming the tags from this point on, because gonecountry's is still the only submission I have, which is ridiculous. 1 week and 4 days to submit. Please help me get this rankdown over with.

I know this format is heavily tilted toward male singers, but the lack of women in this rankdown seems even more pronounced this year

It's so weird that the further we go back for mainstream rock, the closer it starts to resemble more of an AAA playlist if you take out the hair metal stuff. Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty have multiple songs this year, and we'll get to rank them again for 2021 AAA. (with "Letter to You" and "Leave Virginia Alone" respectively; the former possibly this year) The same with Mick Jagger's band for 2020 AAA ("Living in a Ghost Town") And Sting/The Police, John Mellencamp, Robert Plant/Led Zeppelin, Tears for Fears, Eurythmics, Talking Heads, The Cars, David Bowie and R.E.M. get a lot of recurrent AAA airplay.

Just submitted. What an awesome year. Hard as hell to rank. Especially my top 10. Would have been better with a few of those extras thrown in but I did end up enjoying about 90 of the songs. Even the bottom 20 had something to offer. Most of my bottom 10 are just songs that I don't think sounded good among the other songs.
A few more extras I charted:
I'm Goin' Down - Bruce Springsteen I don't know how this missed the cut? I guess Mainstream figured one song to many from the Boss. Same thing happened to "Summer of 69". So this one is great. Loved the way the verses and chorus came together under the same bassline. I usually go for more versatility, but it worked this time. Even when he drops all the music and just strums on the guitar while singing "I'm Going Down". Pretty simple, but builds up nicely. This one made my personal Top 10
Kids Wanna Rock - Bryan Adams I remember KLOS giving this one some airplay while his other singles were charting. I liked this one because it was harder rock vibe like Loverboy's "Hot Girls In Love". It was a good jamming guitar song, but not as strong as the other singles. I gave this one a modest #37 peak while his other singles wee all over my chart.
Diana - Bryan Adams this one wasn't on the album so I wasn't too familiar with it. Sounds great. A lot like "Somebody", but not as strong.
Reaction to Action - Foreigner For me the best single off that album. It had more of that early raw Foreigner sound, but also little bit of 1980 Billy Squier territory. Most likely the reason I enjoyed it so
Tooth and Nail - Foreigner Another good one off that album. I didn't recall the chorus sounding so much like a Dokken song, but I'm not complaining.
Lonely in Love - Giuffria Would have loved to ranked this one too. That first was AOR heaven. I can best describe this powerballad as Journey meets Whitesnake. Loved the powerful chorus of this song.
Do Me Right - Giuffria Another great one. I have this L.P.. Loved the medieval Asia/Yes synths in this one. Kinda progressive, but not boring. The chorus here isn't the most interesting, but the vocals takes it to another height. David had those tones touching along side Steve Perry with a bit of Sammy Hagar gruffness. Could have been another great vocalist for Van Halen.
Trouble in Paradise - Huey Lewis & the News Huey and The Boys toning it down a little. This one had a bit of Hall & Oates blue eyed soul. Once again the saxophone takes it home for me.
Magical - John Parr This guy had a good sound for 80's Album rock singles. His guitar riffs always had muscle. A bit of that blues rock progressed into hard rock like Ratt. Great song It's just that Jon lacked those powerful tones to really make a song like this sound heavier.
Restless Heart - John Waite I remember charting this one. Loved the Heartland rock vibe. Something like Country Bon Jovi. John had the vocals for this one.
Gonna do a couple from the next set. One of these would be in my top 20.
Home Sweet Home - Mötley Crüe It's so cool to see Michael Berryman in another Crüe vid. I didn't even remember this vid's intro. I envied this band's blonde groupies sooooo much back then. I like this song a whole lot more now a days, but I used to think it was too pretty for the band. This song was like #1 for weeks on end on MTV's TRL.
You're in Love - Ratt This is the rockstar of the night. Many Ratt fans consider this their favorite song. For me it will always be "Round and Round", but how fierce is this intro. Stephen's vocals were made for this jam, but you gotta give it up for Crosby and DeMartini. Having two lead guitarists was a big part of the magic ,and heavy sound of this band.
have you all seen that new Geiko commercial. I couldn't care less about commercials, but I love seeing Ratt anywhere anytime. Stephen still sounds great.

Oops; didn't tag yesterday because I was exhausted at the end of a busy week and went to sleep early. Only submission I've received since last tag was Daryl. 1 day until the deadline. However, if I don't have 8 lists after the due date has passed, I will switch to an open deadline period.

surely we can get at least 10 lists Well, Aero and Curry both sent within the last 50 minutes, so the count is currently at 8. If we can push that to 10 in the next 36 hours, more power to us, but let's avoid stalling this rankdown too much. I say this mostly because I want to leave time for 1984 AOR to be held between this year's finish and the start of 2020 year-end rankdowns.

Reminder that submissions are due Midnight Central Time, which is around 16 hours away. This is a pretty firm deadline, meaning I likely won't be giving any leeway for latecomers (rankdown's been open for 44 days -- allot your time better)

Looking forward to this. Really have no clue what is going to be #1, just hoping my #1 makes the top 15 as it has long been a favorite. There are a lot of great tunes not getting ranked.
Say It Isn't So? No Outfield?
Tears Are Falling. No Kiss.
Tooth And Nail. Foreigner's Best from 85, IMO
No "You're in Love" from Ratt or "Alone Again" from Dokken? sacrilegious…. There was that much good music in the 80's.
Bring it on!
