Gonna commence with last night's extras tonight.
When You Heart Is Weak - Cock Robin Let's start off with another of my favorite songs from that year. I never heard it on Rock radio stations, but it has enough guitar ,and bass to end up really high on my list. The U.S. let this band slip through their fingers so they found big success in Europe with this ,and a handful of other singles. I always found their unique mix of Sophistipop laced with a little Country vibe to sound quite fetching. Peter Kingsbery was not only the lead singer. He also contributed to that mean bass guitar you hear on both songs. The babe you see dancing around is Anna LaCazio. She also shared lead vocals on a few hits. Including their biggest international hit "The Promise You Made".
Everything I Need - Men at Work I believe I have mentioned elsewhere that this band just lost that magic after "Business As Usual". Strangely enough this song has all the ingredients that made "Who Can It Be Now" "It's A Mistake" and even "Overkill" such big hits. The problem for me is that this song sounds like a regression. it sounds more like the song they should have released first to heat up the waters before releasing "Who can It Be Now" and everything thereafter.
Baby Please Don't Go - Willie & the Poorboys Can't say I've ever heard this. Definitely sounds like jam rock you might hear at a pub. The problem for me with these kinda Club jams is that they just sound like for the moment. Get the Blue Collar crowd revved up just enough to keep drinking.
Black Cars - Gino Vannelli I mentioned that I liked this Pop song for the Modern Rock rankdown. I can't imagine why it appears here as an extra. Maybe the fact that it has some John Cafferty and Beaver Brown band hooks.
In Jeopardy - Roger Hodgson Normally I don't care too much for this Proggy Rock vibe. This song could have been good judging by those synths in the intro, but then decides to rely all it's catchy aspect on that "in Jeopardy" chant, which did nothing but annoy me right to the next song on the list.
Piece by Piece - The Tubes Hell yes!! The other Xanadu band. These guys were great in the 70's. I always dug this band instead of going full on synthpop they kept their Neo Punk style ,and added a few pop hooks on the side. This song is a perfect example of that pop Wave style.
Lucky - Greg Kihn It's a crying shame we won't be diving into the 70's. Most of these band's best work is from that era. The Cars, The Tubes, Foreigner ,and these guys with "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" and "Testify". "Jeopardy" is still awesome, but this here sounds like another proggyrama style that I just can't get into. Another one of those wash rinse repeat choruses that just annoys the hell out of me.
What I See - Planet P Project We'll get to rank some Tony Carey soon enough. Hopefully one of those songs will be "I Won't Be Home Tonight". His side project here was a bit proggy leaning. This song for example. Not a bad song, but not taking me into a thrilling level. call me back if we get to rank "Why Me".
back later on. Right now I need to know if my #1 song has spun its way into the Modern Rock Rank down top 10.

Seems like my #1 song for Modern Rock gets to Spin for one more night so I'll continue here. 60. I Want to Know What Love Is - ForeignerFor once i fully agree with our host. I never liked this song. Call it Powerballad, Power Lullaby whatever I hated it. It took me years to figure out why, and after listening to all my favorite powerballads I came to the conclusion that I just hated all the extra back ups vocals in the chorus. Sounds like some gospel quire and it's just wrong. All of the power ballads I love are only the lead singer or band on vocals. Other wise it all becomes one big bag of sap. 59. One World - Dire StraitsI didn't know this song. It wasn't very interesting, but it wasn't all together bad, just hasn't gained any classic song points in my archives. 58. R.O.C.K in the U.S.A (A Salute to 60's Rock) - John MellencampAnother of my favorite Rock anthems bites the dust. First Loverboy now this one. I was testing the waters with this one, but I really need to know that John Cougar jams will start going top 10 on these rds. especially the jams like this. It's that John Cafferty and Romantics vibes that gives this song it's charm, but I also love those lyrics...and it's a Rock song anthem. 57. Centerfield - John FogertyThe hokiest John Fogerty song on the ,list shows up the highest. Not impressed at all. Any big fans of baseball present? 56. Back in Time - Huey Lewis & the NewsI can go for some Huey Lewis and The News anytime or day of the week. For me the favorite part is that guitar hook introducing the final fadeout. Great songs from this band are still to come. I can almost taste the epic brass vibes we will soon rank from the 'Sports' album. 55. Sussudio - Phil CollinsDude I wanna quote so many lines from that clip you uploaded ,and incorporate them into my review of the song, but I also don't wanna get banned. Let's just say "Sussudio" is good , but American Psycho rulze. 54. Somebody - Bryan Adamsdamn! So close to the top 50 too. This is a guitar hook wet dream. In many ways another Album Rock anthem. Simple chorus but damn powerful. Let's see how many more guitar riff songs we can eliminate before this night's reveals are over. 53. No Lookin' Back - Michael McDonaldNice song, and Michael sounds great, but I don't think his vocals tones are meant for Rock format. Great for pop. As for this song. Kenny Loggins did better versions of it with "I'm Free" and "Danger Zone". 52. Inside Out - Phil Collins Another case of a passable song that hasn't settled in my classic rock songs from 1985 archives. It's just too too light rock for me. The biggest disappointment is that The one song from this album " Don't Loose My Number" that I really love is nowhere to be found on this RD except as an extra. 51. That Was Yesterday - ForeignerIf your dad used to play 70's Foreigner all the time you pretty much realize that mid 80's and up Foreigner was a bunch of over bloated sap. The two extras completely floor these two songs we ranked. 50. Cannonball - SupertrampThis was one proggy foggy nightmare. I used to be freaked out by those ugly cavemen in the video. Now not at all, but the song was so very unappealing. Those nervous sounding piano beats really exhausted my listening pleasure. 49. Four in the Morning - Night Ranger AOR heaven sung to perfection by Jack Blades. This song has a great chorus , but I love that bridge right before the chorus even more. The verses have a great Rick Springfield poprock vibe and it's all held together with some fantastic guitar solos from Jeff and Brad. I'm just thrilled to see Night Ranger finally crack the top 50. We have three of their songs for 1984 and I hope they all show up much higher. 48. All She Wants to Do Is Dance - Don HenleyDon Henley finally giving in to his most 80's sounding cravings. I love this one. The guitars and synths go hand in hand, and you have lyrics about a girl who wants to dance. It's most definitely my favorite from his 80's era. 47. If You Love Somebody Set Them Free - StingI knew it. First the song gets ragged on that magically gets top half ranking on Mainstream rock. It's not even surprising anymore. I gave the usual kick down the list as well. I still like, but sounds better on Modern Rock and Pop for me. 46. Knocking at Your Back Door - Deep PurpleI love these two entries from Deep Purple. They sounded like a Melodic version of Dio. 45. Talk to Me - FionaThis song was o.k. to me. Falls were I think it should to. I dug the Steve Winwood sounding synths in the background, but the guitars didn't take center stage like I wanted them to. In the end I like her vocals a lot, but this didn't rock half as sexy as the song she did with Kip Winger. 44. The Old Man Down the Road - John FogertyI forgot this one was still in the running. Good song. Cool ass Swamp guitar vibe. John sounds good. I'm actually it beat out "Centerfield" but not "Rock and Roll Girls". 43. Tonight It's You - Cheap Trick"The Fire" LOL! First off I love "The Flame", but just a heads up. Cheap Trick didn't write that song, but they did write this one. It sounds way more like "If You Want My Love". This song has one hell of a build up to the chorus. That's what I love about Cheap Trick's music. I'll take honors for giving the highest rank to a Cheap Trick song, but sadly we probably won't ever get to rank their best 70's material. 42. Small Town - John Mellencamp Another great Heartland rock song from John. His songs usually told a story and Heartland for me was best sung under John or Tom Petty vocal tones. This really was "Jack and Diane" part II just that it's missing that ultra epic percussion midbreak of said song. 41. Trapped - Bruce Springsteen & the E Street BandThis is the only song of his that I gave a low ranking to. It's not even from the album and I don't really go for live stuff unless I'm at a concert. I'm thinking I most likely gave the highest rank to at least one of his other songs featured on this RD.

Nice to see a few songs from the Lost Hits rankdowns still hanging in there though I expect most of these will bow out in the next set. Just a couple of songs remaining that I don't fully get the appeal of. Otherwise I'm fine with the rest being in the top 40. {STATS IN THE MORNING}

#39 for Lay It Down?!?? Do you not like guitars??
By the way, regarding the last reveals...
#43 for Cheap Trick was too soon. Tonight It's You is gorgeous. I'm hoping you don't do their 82 classics If You Want My Love and She's Tight as dirty. If so, I'm breaking shit.
#46 by Deep Purple. Not bad for a ditty about back door loving.
#50 Cannonball. Thank God it is out. Worst video ever.
