Just found this on Colbie Caillat’s Instagram. This will be Michael’s next single. He announces that it will be around the 51:20 mark in this video. This is a great live video from Colbie’s home with performances from Michael, Colbie, Matt Stell, Jerrod Niemann and Tim Montana. www.instagram.com/tv/CE5ZlK0F4Df/?igshid=1tqdfvhdx8n6k

He's performed this 4 or 5 times now on his Honkytonk Tuesday live sessions. It's a gorgeous song. Excited to hear the studio on Friday.

I... have no words! This song is absolutely incredible! Fantastic melody, the traditional leaning instrumentation... the FIDDLE! When have we ever heard a fiddle in a Michael Ray song?!!!? Ugh, it is so amazing. I understand where fans might not support him anymore and I too have struggled.... but this song is just so fantastic. And as fans, we care about the music and artistry more than we do someone's personal life. So whatever happened between him and Carly, I'm finding it hard to find that as a basis not to continue to listen to and support him as long as I approve of what he's putting out as an artist. And I definitely approve of this... what a wonderful country tune.

The production on this is SO cool.
And am I terrible to wonder when he wrote this? 😂

The production on this is SO cool. And am I terrible to wonder when he wrote this? 😂 Don’t blame you for wondering, but he didn’t write it. Writers are Jesse Frasure and Josh Thompson. I think someone here or on his Instagram said he’s been performing it at live shows for awhile.

And I definitely approve of this... what a wonderful country tune. We all have skeletons in our closet, and I would be mortified if some of my own baggage was for public consumption. We all learn from mistakes and try to get better. I really don't get too involved in the romantic lives of stars for this reason (though I LIVE for breakup songs). So I agree with you there. The song is pretty good, but is it a radio hit in 2020/2021? I am not sure.

This is good but I don’t think it will do that good on the charts. I’ve always been a fan of Michael’s voice especially on the slower songs like this. He may prove me wrong but it’s gonna be hard for him to top “Her World Or Mine”. For me that’s been his best radio single so far.

this might be my favorite song from him thus far, so good. It is on repeat already. If he releases more like this and less like "One That Got Away" I'll have to get the album

I don't know if this can be a radio hit or not, but honestly at this point I don't think Michael himself seems to care too much. He keeps talking about how this is the kind of music he came to Nashville to record, and seems genuinely thrilled that he's at a point in his career where he can do it now. Aside from "Her World Or Mine" this is easily the most 90s/traditional country song he's done, but to me it's still not THAT far of a departure from his overall style because even on his last two albums he's been more traditional leaning than not, at least to my ears. I really want this to do well for him and I'm not convinced that it will or it won't. Time will tell. It's definitely not a 'safe' choice for radio. Country radio always has an interesting relationship with these types of songs... they either do well or flop, not much in-between when you go the more traditional route these days, especially when you're not an A-lister. Even then it can be a gamble.

I’m not too familiar with the Tim Montana that sings in the video I posted above. I’d like to know the names of the songs he performed in the video. One of them was an upbeat tune that I really liked. I think it may have been the first or second song he did and pretty sure he was the first one performing.

Great song, very good production. Get To You and One That Got Away got me into him, while Her World or Mine was kinda boring. Hope this can be top 20 hit without taking as much time as Her World. But cannot see this becoming #1 sadly, and (not that it matters), but I think Next Girl will top this.

I want to so badly like Michael Ray and his music since he is pretty well liked here but I still do not get the appeal beyond his looks. This song isn't bad but with Michael Ray singing it I am kind of left lukewarm.
I am curious how this does for Michael Ray career and radio wise because looking at his discography so far despite having 3 Top 3 hits in "Kissed You In The Morning", "Think A Little Less", and "One That Got Awaty" none of his singles have been that successful beyond radio except "Her World Or Mine" which ultimately died out around the Top 20 despite solid streaming.

This is absolutely fantastic. I cannot stop listening to this one. I'm not sure yet if I'd call it his best to date, but it's definitely up there in the top 3 for me among his output. I really feel like this sounds like a big hit to me, too. It fits into that same throwback-but-still-modern mold that's working so well for Jon Pardi right now, and I'd be surprised given Michael Ray's track record with radio thus far if this wasn't at least a top 20 hit for him, but I'm hopeful it'll be the first #1 on BB since his debut single and his biggest hit yet. He really hit a home run with this one.
Also does anyone else hear Joe Nichols' "Brokenheartsville" in the production of this one? When that bassline fires up at the intro of the music for "Whiskey and Rain," every single time I am reminded of "Brokenheartsville," and I must say that is a damn good song to recall musically, so I approve. The production on this is indeed absolutely fantastic. The flashes of fiddle are gorgeous and the aforementioned bassline is just money.

Great production, strong lyrics, and a perfect vocal. Love how this sounds and I’m really hoping this can succeed where “Her World Or Mine” failed.

Impacts Country Radio: October 26th according to All Access Ouch on the add date. Michael was up against a lot of heavy hitters, but Warner can’t be pleased with only 21 adds. I really love the production on this, but i don’t know if radio’s going to do much with it.

I have always thought Michael Ray was never gonna be long for the genre unless he had that defining hit that takes him to the next level as none of "Kiss You In The Morning", "Think A Little Less", and "One That Got Away" were that big of hits outside of radio. This song could still be a hit but the start is certainly not encouraging.

Only 21 adds on impact isn't super encouraging, but it already debuted on the chart which is pretty encouraging. All of his singles to date have made the top 20 or just missed ("Her World or Mine"), so idk, I'm pretty optimistic that this one will be a hit for him. He's a slow climber on the charts, but radio seems to like him a decent amount given his track record so far, and with the song charting right away, seems to indicate early interest from some stations even if he didn't pull in a ton of them off the bat.

I actually think this will be a hit too. He had no chance at getting adds with the other songs impacting the same date, it is actually one of the more insane add dates I have ever seen. I bet he garners some more adds in the next month and takes a 40 week climb to the Top 15 or better.
The song gets better with each listen.

I've normally been inclined to dismiss Michael Ray as another C-list interchangeable male country act who doesn't make anything particularly memorable, but between this and Her World Or Mine, I've actually been really impressed with his recent output. He's really been defying my expectations. Leaning into a more traditional country sound really works for him. I'm really rooting for Whiskey And Rain to take off, and I'm actually interested to hear more of what Michael Ray does going forward.

Her World Or Mine was solid but this song is fantastic and might be my favorite song at radio right now. He'd dipped his toe in traditional waters in the past, but his voice is so well suited to it that it works perfectly when he fully leans into it here. If he's going to make music like this going forward, count me in.
