Hot Rock & Alternative Songs - Recurrent Breakouts

With the June 13, 2020 issue, the Hot Rock chart got a much needed rejuvenation, making eligible a vast swath of songs serviced to rock-adjacent radio formats. This led to the flood of oldies sparked by death, events, and other causes to seem less prevalent than before. However, they still do happen on occasion, and that's what this thread will be chronicling. For coverage of the chart formerly known as Hot Rock Songs, feel free to peruse this thread! 

As noted in the prior thread, if a song escapes recurrency while being promoted to radio, it will not be included on this list. This chart is especially generous in interpretation of recurrency like so, with album bombs not being counted against active songs with over 30 weeks present and songs being able to re-enter in the bottom 10 while past 20 weeks.

Post reserved in case there's no good demarcation point once I hit the post length limit for OP. For now, just mentioning that this week had a big impact due to Eddie Van Halen's death, the rise of the Dreams meme prompting a catalog bomb for Fleetwood Mac, and the release of a demo of In the End.

While Dreams continues to rise on the Hot 100, it has no song to pass on Hot Rock/Alt aside from the Hot 100's #1, so it stays put at #2. Fleetwood's catalog strengthens this week, adding another song to the list, while only 3 songs from Eddie's death bomb remain along with In the End surprisingly.

Only Jump remains from Van Halen, while the Fleetwood Mac songs are coasting on low competition to not drop hard, with Landslide even bumping up a spot 14-13.

Dreams departs the list at the same time as it does on the Hot 100, apparently this sort of thing will be coordinated between the flagship and respective genre charts going forward.

Both performed at Joe Biden's victory celebration, I Won't Back Down and A Sky Full of Stars re-enter, the latter in particular used at the ceremony in tribute to Joe's late son Beau.

It does so with a #25 position on the oldies-loaded Rock Streaming Songs and #2 on Rock Digital Songs (filtered from a #14 showing on the overall Digital Songs chart).

The first week of the Pop discount had most potential recurrents for Hot Rock/Alt fended off by Billie Eilish's monster album bomb, one lone song was powerful enough t-it's Dreams, obviously it's Dreams. It re-enters at #13 and from its relative position, it's still rocking enough points that it'd be on the Hot 100 were it not a recurrent there.

Dreams climbed 13-9 in its second frame, and now we get a break from discount-fueled moves and back into the world of wider media: following a prominent ad synch for a Samsung Galaxy phone, Imagine Dragons' "Believer" got a major boost in sales and re-enters the list at #10!

If it's not clear, this chart year finally removes "iTunes discount batch" as a valid reason for a song to escape recurrency, sweeping out the guff that just kept coming back intermittently over the course of last year. Instead, this latest batch mostly arrives from Meat Loaf's passing, with 4 songs making their Hot Rock/Alt debuts. However, this is one more: "Right Down the Line" at #21, spurred by an appearance in the buzz-laden show Euphoria.

"Right Down the Line" spent a 3 week-run, peaking at #16 in its second week, and immediately afterward, thanks to its appearance in Facebook's parent company Meta's ad for their Quest VR game Horizon Worlds, Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)", a frequent visitor during the period where iTunes sales were considered a valid impetus, re-enters for the first time in the new paradigm.
