After making it to the Hot 100 for a week and being within Hot 100 Recurrent's range, "Something in the Way" is punted off the Hot Rock/Alt, with another Dave Grohl-connected song making it in its place: "Everlong" by Foo Fighters, charting at a new peak of #14 after attention from Taylor Hawkins' passing (even though they weren't involved with either the self-titled debut nor The Colour & The Shape, the latter of which "Everlong" hails from...then again, both the in memoriam stuff and my personal spins have leaned toward "My Hero" from that same album, so I'm not really in a place to talk).

Following the Grammys in memoriam segment, which included a last-minute special montage for Taylor Hawkins set to a live recording of Foo Fighters' "My Hero", the song re-enters the list at #23, while fellow album track "Everlong" climbs to a new peak 14-11!

With the new trailer for Thor: Love & Thunder synching it, Guns 'n' Roses' classic "Sweet Child o' Mine" re-enters the list at a new peak of #9, also topping Hot Hard Rock Songs in the process!

After a lengthy run, much of which also had it leading Hot Hard Rock, "Sweet Child o' Mine" departs, and soon after, the sensation of "Running Up That Hill", fueled by prominent synching in Stranger Things, impacted the list, doing what several songs failed to in unseating the evergreen "Heat Waves" for the Hot Rock/Alt crown.

While "Running Up That Hill" remains dominant, the release of the movie Elvis spurred the classics "Can't Help Falling in Love" and "Suspicious Minds" onto the list!

All songs from last week recur, plus "Master of Puppets" (which also debuts in the top 40 of the Hot 100 and tops Hot Hard Rock) and "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" appear thanks to prominent usage in the finale batch of season 4 of Stranger Things. Additionally, though out of the purview of this thread, a new mix of "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", the "(Bryce Miller / Alloy Tracks Remix)", debuts as a current at #13 (also blipping as BU05).

Yet again, all tracks from last week recur, with the addition of 2 songs spurred by Thor: Love & Thunder: "Sweet Child o' Mine", originally bumped by the trailer, and "Welcome to the Jungle", making its first appearance with Alt songs in tow, as it originally appeared on the July 14, 2018 listing of Hot Rock.

After last week's recurrent bonanza, the Elvis songs finally clear out along with "Separate Ways", leaving a duo each from Thor: Love & Thunder and Stranger Things.

After several weeks of gains and then steady losses, the Stranger Things duo are joined by a pair of Foo Fighters songs and Suspicious Minds! Why?...I might be able to get back to you on that in a few hours.

So, since my last update, Billboard charts have finally adapted with the times and made it so older songs getting their first taste of virality no longer have to breakout of the top half to chart, with Rock/Alt particularly benefitting with entries like Dark Red, Mary on a Cross, and I Really Want to Stay at Your House. This does make determining what counts for this list a bit trickier, but at least I got tossed an obvious one this week: Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere", boosted by a Chevy commercial that got some key placements with the current American Football games. Foo Fighters' "Everlong" was the one song from the last batch of 4 to last a second week, and the Stranger Things duo have continued their slow petering out.

"Everywhere" makes significant gains and hits a new peak of #24, "All the Small Things" debuts at #22 thanks to proxy attention from the reunion of Blink-182 with their original lead singer, and "Master of Puppets"...shows that at some point its radio play led to its redesignation as an active single. As we don't know when it made that switch (only that it was after the song's Hot 100 run as it was shunted to Hot 100 Recurrents with the usual standards), I will keep track of it for the rest of its run.

As we stumble into 2023's chart year, Everywhere gets caught between years with a 6-week run that ended up with a #18 peak, Master of Puppets concludes its run, and now the only recurrent charter is Running Up That Hill, which looks poised to fall prey to 10/26 recurrency any week now.

After a 28 week run, Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) ends up succumbing to the 10/26 recurrency rule. Odds are good that this will still allow it a spot in 2023's list.

After Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" was boosted into re-entry by a memorable usage in American Idol, it stuck around for quite a bit longer after the passing of final original member Gary Rossington, which also brought in the returning "Sweet Home Alabama" and the surprisingly absent-'til-now "Free Bird". More recently the passing of Gordon Lightfoot spurred 3 entries, with 1 surviving this week amidst the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 3 impact that, while not broad, was strong with a #7 debut for Radiohead's "Creep" (featured with an acoustic version on the album proper) and a #11 re-entry for Florence + The Machine's "Dog Days Are Over", just shy of its #9 peak from its original run.

In the 2nd (and peak) week for the soundtrack, not only did Dog Days are Over get a new peak of #8, but Heart's "Crazy on You" snuck in a debut at #25! Naturally on the third frame, the track didn't survive, though the 2 flagship reps stayed in the top 10.
