WHAT. Robbed! M&T's is the best version of this song I've ever heard, hands down. Perfection.

I am happy it was included on this so I could spend some more time with it. I actually found I liked it less and less so I was glad that @countryrock's list kicked it out of the Top 5! Especially since it opened the door for Maggie Rose to make the Top 5!

Pleasantly surprised to see Martina bow out, because I had kinda expected her to win here and I am just not really a fan of "Chestnuts." Would be much happier with Reba or SHeDAISY winning.

I'd be shocked if anything but "Deck the Halls" comes out on top as that was the song I figured would win this anyways.

Reba winning as she should 😌 if it wasn’t Martina I’m happy it was Queen Reba!

This went basically EXACTLY the way it should have!!! I honestly loved every song here, and thought this was a super strong playlist, so it pained me to rank Blaine and Aaron in my bottom 2....but since I did, I had to be okay with them placing that low. "It Wasn't His Child" feels like Tim's vocals are a bit rough for some reason. It's like his age is really starting to show through on softer songs like that. Despite that, I still feel like his version of this is pretty solid! Lady A's version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is really good! It is a song that is not really very wise for people to try to cover, (because frankly who would willingly open themselves up for scrutiny from Mariah's fanbase?!), but in order to have a successful cover of this song you have to do something different from the original, and I feel like Lady A did just that with this more subdued rendition. "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is one of the Christmas songs that I tend to enjoy because of the energy it brings to a playlist. There are so many slow Christmas songs, and this one always sounds so good as a counterpoint to all of those! That being said, Maddie & Tae completely sucked the life out of this by making it a ballad. It is good, but it has none of the utility for which this song is best suited. That's why I could only rank it at #8. Most versions of this would have been strong contenders for my top 5. Maggie Rose is a very talented vocalist, with a voice worthy of a song like "O Holy Night"! I like that she kept it relatively simple and straightforward. Definitely not the flashiest rendition, but a capable one nonetheless. Randall King's version of "I Only Want You For Christmas" was a very nice addition to this playlist! That song has good energy, and his Neo-traditional style translates well into a more country-leaning Christmas song like this. This brought a nice uptempo energy to an otherwise pretty slow playlist, which is exactly what I said I usually look for in a song like "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", so this song was a pretty obvious contender for my top 5! Only the Country Christmas Queen could take a song like "The Christmas Song" and make it worthy of top 3 in a rankdown More often than not this song is a chore to listen to, but Martina's really works for me! I know this might mean less coming from me as a huge fan, but I genuinely feel like she touches on a feeling of magic that is undoubtedly what the writers of this song intended to convey, and that I feel like 99% of the covers of this song completely miss. From the pristine vocals to the orchestra to the background choir to the production that has still not aged a day, her first Christmas album does a good job of capturing that magic from front to back, tbh. SHeDAISY's "Deck The Halls" is noteworthy for its innovation, and is of course a very worthy top 2 finisher here!!! I have no doubt this will probably be a strong contender to win if Austin ever does their Christmas album rankdown! Of course that leaves Queen Reba's iconic version of "Mary, Did You Know"!!! I know I've mentioned before that this is easily my favorite version of this song She just has a perfect voice to make this song a spectacle in a way that other versions don't quite manage. Many noteworthy versions of this song, such as the duet between Kenny Rogers/Wynonna Judd, have a much more static structure to the melody from beginning to end, either due to having more limited vocal ranges (or in the case of Wynonna and Kenny, both of them having the same vocal range, lmao). But in Reba's case, the bridge becomes a moment of climax, because she goes out of her way to make it so. It's basically the same recipe that makes something like "Moving Oleta" so interesting to listen to. The verses are rather low and subdued, before all of a sudden she ramps up the energy and lets the emotion pour out in the bridge. I guess tim must have accidentally ranked the mediocre version with Vince Gill and Amy Grant from her newest Christmas album.... :(

^ Carrie’s only just escaped your bottom 5 in her Christmas rankdown last year as well! Yea, as much as I love Christmas music this just happens to be one of the songs I rarely ever revisit. While I do admit that Reba's version is quite good, that still wasn't reason enough for me to have ranked it within my top 5 for this rankdown. I honestly don't know what my favorite version of the song is, but Kathy Mattea's stands out if only because I've been familiar with that one since the early days of CMT. That said, I have to say that I liked Carly Pearce's recent rendition and am excited to see how it does in the New Releases rankdown!

It makes sense to leave them off, cause they hella disadvantaged in this context. I’m just being a shit, cause it would have won if the no repeat winners rule had been initiated at the time 😜
