HITS 10/16: Pop Smoke returns to #1, Fleetwood Mac top 10

Pop Smoke will return to #1 this week as no debuts make it into the Top 20. If Fleetwood Mac makes it into the Top 10 with Rumors (Warner), it may be the album's highest chart position of the modern era. Rumors previously hit #11 in May 2011 with 29.5k.

Pop Smoke has been in contention for a return to the top spot so many times over the last few months it would be nice to see him finally go back.

Well now that merch bundles can't inflate albums I think more and more weeks will look similar to this. A streaming-heavy album doing 50-100k units well into their run being #1. 

Albums usually only do 100k+ in streams the first 3 or so weeks, and those are usually from the few huge releases per year. Artists will not be doing notable pure sales much anymore, as so many were relying on merch bundles.

Streaming era tends to do lower numbers in a week since streaming is less frontloaded than pure sales, however albums have better chart runs.

Slow new release week with none predicted to be in the top 20. Glad to see Pop Smoke possibly back to #1.

Pop Smoke had the most streamed album but wasn't #1 in 6 different weeks. He beyond deserves the additional weeks #1, and arguably had the real surprise blockbuster album of the year.

Pop Smoke deserves this return to #1 after being blocked for so many weeks by new releases and sales tactics. It's the fourth most streamed album of the year with 2.1 billion streams, according to HDD.

*Only '25', 'Scorpion' & 'DAMN.' dropping this Friday would be able to break into top 10 (with their first 11 weeks, out of the artists that haven't dropped this year but were rumored to). But all 3 of these artists won't be able to match their previous album. So even if Kendrick dropped an album this Friday, i wouldn't bet on it to reach top 10 in such short notice.

'Fine Line' is the only album than might sneak in top 10 insted of Bad Bunny's "YHLQMDLG"

tl;dr: These will be the 10 best selling albums of 2020.

This is so interesting.. I had assumed it was kind of always floating around on Catalog Albums with occasional time off. This looks more like it was a blockbuster in its day but then only became a chart mainstay in the past 10 years

The top of the chart is too close to call, as the distance between Pop Smoke and 21 Savage & Metro Boomin is minimal. Linkin Park’s 20th Anniversary Edition of Hybrid Theory (Warner) looks set to finish in the Top 15. Will Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors (Warner) remain in the Top 10 when everything is counted?
