Eagles' 'Live From The Forum' Soars With Band's Best Sales Week in More Than 10 Years By Keith Caulfield 10/29/2020 Click to copy www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/9475403/eagles-live-from-the-forum-best-sales-week-10-years/Eagles fly in at No. 5 on the Album Sales chart (dated Oct. 31) with the band’s best sales week in over a decade, as their new Live From The Forum MMXVIII debuts with 24,000 copies sold in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 22, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The arrival marks the largest sales week for any album by the group since its studio set Long Road Out of Eden sold 38,000 copies in the week ending Feb. 17, 2008 (chart dated March 1). Billboard’s Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The Album Sales chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Pure album sales were the measurement solely utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. Live From The Forum MMXVIII also scores the band its highest charting effort on Album Sales since former No. 1 Eden placed at No. 4 in its eighth week on the list (on the Jan. 5, 2008-dated chart). Live From The Forum MMXVII is the group’s first new album release since the 2016 death of co-founder Glenn Frey (and which features his son Deacon and country star Vince Gill). It was available in a variety of deluxe formats, including a set with four vinyl LPs, two CDs and a blu-ray disc for $149.98. The album was recorded over three nights at The Forum in Los Angeles in September of 2018. It includes renditions of familiar favorites like the top 10-charting Billboard Hot 100 singles “One of These Nights,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It to the Limit,” “Hotel California,” “Heartache Tonight” and “I Can’t Tell You Why.”

The Eagles' sum of 24,000 is a pretty strong figure these days for No. 5 on Album Sales.

On Billboard’s latest Album Sales chart (dated Oct. 31), Taylor Swift’s Folklore rushes back to No. 1, while NCT’s Resonance, Pt. 1 is the highest debut at No. 2, Tom Petty’s Wildflowers re-enters at No. 3 following its deluxe reissue, and new albums by BTS, Eagles and Sturgill Simpson bow in the top 10. (For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.) Swift’s Folklore jumps 8-1 on Album Sales to collect its seventh nonconsecutive week at No. 1. The set surges with 57,000 copies sold in the week ending Oct. 22 -- a 709% sales gain over the 7,000 sold in the previous week. The increase is largely owed to Swift selling autographed copies of the CD edition of the album via her webstore for $25 per copy, for a limited time. Concurrent with the sales rally for Folklore, the album becomes the first title to surpass 1 million copies sold in the U.S. in 2020.
At No. 2 on the Album Sales chart, Korean pop group NCT collects its first entry on the list, as its second album Resonance, Pt. 1 arrives with 40,000 copies sold. More than half of the set’s sales came from mass merchants such as Target and Walmart.
Tom Petty’s 1994 album Wildflowers hits a new high on the Album Sales chart, as its deluxe reissue on Oct. 16 spurs the set’s re-entry at No. 3 with 38,000 sold in the week ending Oct. 22 (up 8,428%). The set debuted at No. 8 (its prior chart peak) on the Nov. 19, 1994-dated chart. In total, Wildflowers has sold 3.35 million to date.
Wildflowers benefits from a variety of expansive deluxe editions, dubbed Wildflowers & All the Rest. All versions of the album, including the original 1994 release, are combined for tracking and charting purposes. The All the Rest subtitle refers to the inclusion of a number of previously unreleased bonus tracks, many of which were originally intended for the Wildflowers album. (The set was initially meant to be a double album, but was whittled down to a 15-song release.)
BTS’ deluxe reissue of its 2014 album Skool Luv Affair debuts at No. 4 with 26,000 copies sold (up 8,384%). The set was originally released in the U.S. as a digital album, but was reissued on CD on Oct. 16. Across all of BTS’ albums, the group has sold 1.08 million copies in the U.S. in 2020, which is the second-most of any act, behind only Taylor Swift, who has sold 1.32 million across her catalog of releases. Swift and BTS are the only acts that have sold at least 1 million albums in 2020.
Eagles fly in with the band’s best sales week for an album in over a decade, as their new Live From the Forum MMXVIII debuts at No. 5 on Album Sales with 24,000 copies sold. It marks the largest sales week for any album by the group since its studio set Long Road Out of Eden sold 38,000 copies in the week ending Feb. 17, 2008 (chart dated March 1).
Live From the Forum MMXVIII also lands the band its highest charting effort on Album Sales since former No.
BLACKPINK’s The Album descends from No. 1, where it spent its first two weeks, to No. 6 on the new Album Sales chart, with 17,000 copies sold (down 14%).
Sturgill Simpson’s new covers project Cuttin’ Grass, Vol. 1: The Butcher Shoppe Sessions, bows at No. 7 with 10,000 sold. On the album, Simpson re-recorded 20 of his older songs in a bluegrass style, along with help from an array of notable names in bluegrass, including Tim O’Brien, Stuart Duncan and Sierra Hull.
Rounding out the top 10 of the latest Album Sales chart are SuperM’s Super One: The 1st Album (slipping 4-8 with 9,000 sold; down 14%) Carrie Underwood’s My Gift (5-9 with 8,500; down 6%) and Dolly Parton’s A Holly Dolly Christmas (6-10 with 7,500; down 16%).

Why does he give total sales figures for albums constantly (folklore, Rumors, Wildflowers) but almost completely refuses to ever give total equivalent unit figures in the equivalent unit era?
Gosh, I wish someone new would write the articles honestly. Between that, him posting articles as late as past sundown, and consistently having errors or leaving out important information/certain positions he really does the bare minimum.
