I honestly wasn't expecting another perfect ranking since my #1 was/is gone.

I gave this song multiple listens, and it's a perfectly solid song, but I couldn't get into it all that much. I tried, man. I tried.
1 vs. 7
By the way, I had an anti-rooting interest going into the top ten, and it made the top three. It wasn't "Dsco".

It's actually so hype to see Duvet finish this high. One of my favorite songs of all time. Watch Serial Experiments Lain

Your final 2.
Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) Just What I Needed
Tale of the Tape: This was the top 2 for 12 movements. These 2 songs spent all but one movement at #1. These songs have a combined 33 top 10s, 26 being top 5s and 11 being #1s. 10 bottom 18s remain, 4 being bottom 10s. No players can get a perfect top 2. @humanshazam, being down to his 1 and 3, is the closest.

I don't hate Common People or anything, but I've just never really gotten why it's so highly regarded at all. It's not even a matter of me hating Jarvis's vocals or anything, it's just never clicked with me. (also for comparison's sake I'd probably be ranking it barely in my top half if it were in like 1996 Alt, on a list like this though it was a very easy last place)
(also yes, watch Lain)

I knew that if I put this in a rankdown, it was probably going to win, so initially I had put a bunch of safe competitors in so it didn't win too handily...unfortunately, for various reasons, I ended up taking many of those out, lol. But hey, the song won with 5 bottom half rankings, so you can't say it didn't face any adversity. Congrats to @humanshazam, rowellfarm490, Lordef†ones, Red, willapted33, BB🌕, peacebone, and MoD for your #1 perfect rankings! 1

I was rooting against The Cars all along. "Just What I Needed" is a great song, but I have never connected to it on a larger scale like I have with my favorite Cars songs. I also couldn't rank it lower, because, again, great song. Oh look, Red put Deftones #1. It's almost as shocking as Lord putting Deftones #1.As always, singingrulebritannia, great RD full of great discoveries. now, to go listen to "Dsco" again and try to get into it

the #7-3 reveals stretch here is possibly the best 5 in a row I've seen. all incredible songs. top 2 is kinda underwhelming - the Deftones win was expected and while I love JWIN, there were better competitors here.
excited for your next rankdown

22. For Tomorrow - Blur Torn apart here. I dug the vocals, and the Lalala's actually added some charm. What I didn't go for was how the melody fell flat at the end of every verse line. 21. Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy How this classic rock jam didn't make everyone's top 5 is way over my head. New Rose - The Damned I wanted to like this garage Punk rock jam, but just couldn't find much enticement in the end. Their are punk rock songs that have melody. Rip It Up - Orange Juice This almost sounded like a Rick Astley demo. Never heard it before this RD, but I loved it. Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull This act falls under progressive artsy Folk rock, but for me it was all about the guitars. Radar Love - Golden Earring Easily one of my favorite songs from this list. I didn't even know of its existence until White Lion covered it. I still prefer their version, because of course I would. It's Mike Tramp on vocals, but I do have a Golden Earing favorite "Twilight Zone". Mirror In the Bathroom - The Beat English Beat, General Public, even just The Beat, and you guys still don't buy it. ANother classic from the real KROQ years. I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones Another certified classic and the Best Ramones song we have ranked on any RD so far. Dead Man's Party - Oingo Boingo ...and yet another KROQ classic song dropping out way before it should. The first thought that came to my mind? Man this Top 10 is gonna suck. Either that or feature a bunch of songs I thought were just passable. I'm In Love With A German Film Star - The Passions A decent first time listen. her vocals were definitely the best aspect I head in this song. Close To The Edge - Yes Man I really get tuned out by the proggy side of Yes. AT 18 minutes this song exhausted my tolerance for prog rock way over the limit. California Uber Alles - Dead Kennedys This was a punk catastrophe from start to finish. This top 10 is less then enticing. I have one top 1o song left. Oh what the hell. It's my #1 song 10. Long Train Runnin' - The Doobie Brothers This song is pretty cool. I wouldn't consider myself a Doobie Brothers fan, since I only dig on their top hits. This is one of them. I also get slight "Superstitious " vibes from the chorus which leans towards an R&B melody. 9. Shine On - The House of Love This was one of my favorite first time listens. Loved the chorus where the female vocals backups kick in. His vocals are not all that great, but the songs melody keeps them in tune. 8. Made of Stone - The Stone Roses This song was trying to sound like the Byrds. That was the enjoyable part, but I didn't find it all that interesting as a whole. 7. I Would Hurt a Fly - Built to Spill This was a major tune out. The vocals were beyond depressing, and it sounded like a grunge ballad or something. No melody. AT least not an NRGetic one I can swim in. An easy tank dwellar if you were compiling my list. 6. Common People - Pulp Now this was a pleasant surprise. I forget if its the first time Its appeared on an RD, but It was my favorite first time listen. Kinda uneventful in the lyrics dept. but it had a great build up. especially with the guitar screaches. Parts of it sounded like a Killers song. 5. Nothing Ever Happened - Deerhunter This wasn't terrible. A bit too 90's sounding for my taste, but still a good side of 90's. I would like this song a lot more on a list with songs that sound like this. 4. Duvet - Bôa I didn't like this one at all. It 's in my bottom 5 because it sounded like a 10,000 Maniacs reject song. Of course if you dig 10,000 Maniacs than this is probably your jam. 3. Dsco - Sweet Trip This was ok. Not familiar with it at all. I feel like I would like this song a lot more sung in Spanish. I don't know why I just get that feeling. Before anything I' m gonna implode if the Deftones beat The Cars. 2. Just What I Needed - The Cars Not surprisingly my #1 song. In fact one of my top 10 songs of all times. It's a perfect build up song. Best strumming intro if I ever heard one. Good object of desire lyrics I love. At fisrt listen It isn't the most NRGetic song on the block, and Greg's synths kinda add an even more melancholy vibe to the song. It's Bens bass playing coupled with Ric's rhythm guitar that lightens up the mood with that perfect foot tapping poprock melody. This song also has an incredible story of how it even got played on the radio. In short it started out as a demo when played on the radio. If you want the whole fascinating background story on the song read here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_What_I_Needed1. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) - Deftones Couldn't even put this one at #35, because in the end it wasn't all that bad. The guitars added some NRG, Chino is not a bad vocalist, but over all this type of song doesn't give me that shiny feeling inside. The band obviously has some appeal. I just wish they didn't beat the Cars with a song titled "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away). That just looks odd on paper.

Kinda uneventful in the lyrics dept. but it had a great build up. especially with the guitar screaches. Parts of it sounded like a Killers song. Now hold up, because I can prove Common People wasn't a first listen for you ![:giggle:](//storage.proboards.com/1258812/images/aSdDjxeFubxIlbMzpKXc.gif) Pulp - Common People (Green Baron, Extra #2) vs. Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon (crash46, #7) Oh wow! Another favorite of mine from 2011. Except it's from 1995. Oh wow! Imagine that?  I came about it in 2011, when the video was uploaded on youtube. It actually didn't sound too far away from indie songs of 2011. Still one of my 2011 favorites.  Also, this is the first time I've seen anyone say the song was lyrically uneventful. Pretty much everyone I know who holds Common People in high regard says the lyrics are the best part. Being that it's about members of 'high society' who say they're sympathetic to the working class, but will never know what it's like to live poor because they can always retreat to their money and their powerful families. Kind of like "Rich Girl" by Hall & Oates but better. Even for your specific interests I figured you'd love how it's also about a hookup at a bar. You know, the girl saying "I want to sleep with common people like you"? And then later Jarvis says "dance and drink and screw"? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

You gotta remember a lot of these unique RD songs are songs I listen once for the game, but not much after that. At least I was consistent on my thoughts about it this time.Still turned out to be my favorite "first time" listen. ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) I should have been more specific and said vocal delivery instead of lyrics. Not in the chorus, but in the verses it just sounds kinda spoken. The synth beat in the background livens it up. In the end its the music that got me jumping on this one. Particularly the little synth beat I just mentioned which sounds like something Greg hawks would ,and has inserted into Cars' songs.
