Here are all the songs that I think are referenced in “What’s Your Country Song”:
Did you grow up on a tractor? Did your daddy let you drive? (Alan Jackson - “Drive”) Are you whiskey bent and hell bound (Hank Williams Jr. - “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound) Even though your mama tried? (Merle Haggard - “Mama Tried”) Did you cruise down a backroad (Florida Georgia Line - “Cruise”) With your dixieland delight? (Alabama - “Dixieland Delight”) Are you on the chattahoochee (Alan Jackson - “Chattahoochee”) On a barefoot blue jean night? (Jake Owen - “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”) Everybody got a small town anthem Everybody got a story to tell Everybody got a hallelujah Everybody been through a little hell When you're rolling down a little two lane highway And you turn your radio on Tell me which one hits you baby Yeah, what's your country song? Yeah, what's your country song?
Do your exes live in Texas? (George Strait - “All My Exes Live In Texas”) Are you so lonesome you could cry? (Hank Williams - “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”) Are you heartbroke 'cause you know That ain't your truck in her drive? (Rhett Akins - “That Ain’t My Truck) Are your friends all in low places (Garth Brooks - “Friends In Low Places”) Underneath the neon moon? (Brooks & Dunn - “Neon Moon”) Are you already country Back when country wasn't cool? (Barbara Mandrell - “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool”) Everybody got a small town anthem Everybody got a story to tell Everybody got a hallelujah Everybody been through a little hell When you're rolling down a little two lane highway And you turn your radio on Tell me which one hits you baby Yeah, what's your country song? Yeah, what's your country song?
Who's your strawberry wine? (Deana Carter - “Strawberry Wine”) What's your family tradition? (Hank Williams Jr. - “Family Tradition”) What makes you turn it up, makes you raise your cup every time you listen? Everybody got a small town anthem Everybody got a story to tell Everybody got a hallelujah Everybody been through a little hell When you're rolling down a little two lane highway And you turn your radio on Tell me which one hits you baby Yeah, what's your country song? Yeah, what's your country song?
The very first line is interesting because even though it references tractors, it doesn’t really reference a specific song. I may be missing some so let me know if you think a line I didn’t mentioned is a reference.

This might be Thomas's best lead single. Vastly superior to "Look What God Gave Her". That said, the production is pretty bland and lightweight. I call dibs on the “songs referenced in ‘What’s Your Country Song’ rankdown” early next year! Looking forward to hearing this one. This is a great idea, I wish I'd thought of it for an "And the Radio Played" rankdown!

Did you grow up on a tractor? (I'm guessing either "Big Green Tractor" or "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy")
Are you heartbroke 'cause you know (Likely Ricky Skaggs "Heartbroke")
Are you already country (Maybe Alan Jackson's "Gone Country"?

I don't know why it's marked as "are" everywhere when Thomas can clearly be heard saying "were." With that, it's pretty obvious which one that line referenced

Edit: I also thought of this same idea back a few months ago when "Nashville Without You" did really well in the rankdown for Tim McGraw's Two Lanes of Freedom album, but never said anything. Could definitely be a fun mini-series for somebody to host!

I kinda got chills watching that video, and I am not really even sure why. I think it just hit me this has Single of the Year all over it.

This might be my favorite song of his since his first album. Or at least since Die a Happy Man. I'm kind of a sucker for songs like this with all the nostalgia worked into it. Well done!

Debut at #18 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. His highest debut ever.

I'm liking this myself but I am just a bit surprised at all the rave reviews this is getting here because I thought surely there'd be some knocking on it being another song making its lyrics out of stringing together a bunch of classic song titles. That said, it works well here and the melody is indeed on-point as others have said, so I am pleased with this release. Easily his best single in quite some time, certainly better than any of the Center Point Road hits imo. The music video was well done, too.

I do like it, it's probably the best of all four (so far) of the recent country singles that use this gimmick (RIP "A Song For Everything"). That chorus is undeniable.

Surprised that nobody got the hell reference. "If You're Going Through Hell"-Rodney Atkins
Could the small town anthem be linked to Justin Moore's "Small Town USA?"
Thomas did co-wrote "1994" for Jason Aldean. Both Joe Diffie and Jason Alean sang about tractors. "John Deare Green" by Diffie and "Big Green Tractor" by Jason. I think this was written after Joe Diffie's death? It could reference to his song to pay homage to the late singer.
"Take A Backroad" have some of the lyrics in this song. That Rodney Atkins song and other backroads songs could be the homage to all the songs like "On The Road Again" to today's songs.
I do think they are trying to bunch a lot of songs into one song.

This is a fun song, but I think the fact Old Dominion just did this takes the shine off of the impact it could have had otherwise.

If I get this right, I think Thomas Rhett is now speaking up for traditional sounded country music and all the classic sound. I believe this song is in a tribute of the artists that came before him. If he got songs from the 70s and 80s on this? It means he liked Willie Nelson, Barbara Mandrelle, George Strait and others. Joe Diffie is on here because the inspiration of the John Deere Green and the impact of Diffie's death in the industry. It would mean if we ever lose someone? Do you remember the songs? Thomas Rhett was taken on tour at times as a kid with his father Rhett Akins, and if I remember right? Rhett Akins and Joe Diffie may have toured together. Just like Linda Davis took Hillary Scott on tour with her with Reba. Joe Diffie might have been Thomas' god-father on tour like Reba was Hillary's god-mother. This shows how close knit the music industry is with these artists especially on tour.

Joe Diffie sang "John Deere Green" which is a brand name of a tractor. Thr tractor part covered like 3 songs that I know of. Diffie's Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean. Thomas co-wrote Jason Aldean's "1994" which references Joe Diffie.

You have no way of knowing that reference is in regards to the Diffie song. The entire, "John Deere Green," song literally doesn't even say the word tractor in its lyrics. I think you're really grasping at straws here. I have no clue why you're stating the above as a fact.

Yes, but if you look at the Epic Rap Battles of History in writing songs on them? You can get the verse can be 2 to 5 meanings combined. Like the The Joker vs Pennywise? The line took words or verse from two songs to combined into one. 99 Red Balloons and 99 Problems fit in to the song verse by Pennywise daring The Joker to take one of his red balloons and added the B word in the rest of the verse to make it effective. Since you cannot name drop every song title in all of the song? You can combined the meaning like Hell and Tractors are good examples that you can actually combined the different songs as reference. There were so many hit songs with tractors and hell in them, it could mean that instead of listed all of them songs? Just one word can point out to all those songs. Just like Backroads or road songs is another example. You just can't list them all. Cruise and Backroad are words in different songs. Cruise by Florida Georgia Line and then there are songs with Backroads in them like Backroad Song by Granger Smith, Take A Backroad by Rodney Atkins and Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver. Country Roads are mainly the same meaning as backroads.

Just stop being a f**king know it all. I've never seen someone so oblivious to how annoying they are, especially when proven wrong. If you all just stop and listen to the songs and think more deeply on the lyrics? You can actually see what I am talking about. I could write I am trucking in a convoy, east bounding down to my desination. You would get me singing in tribute when I added a CW McCall and a Jerry Reed song into one line. I think you all need to go back and listen to the song, and pay attention to the words more. It does not mean all song titles can be in a song. It will make the song like 10 minutes long.
