Awful how Maxine died! They were just about to reunite.
Tory also sampled the song as giving it another resurgence.

If you're ashy I suspect this would be considered a 'hot take' because it never gets mentioned when talking about them, but I really, really love Brownstone's cover of The BeeGees' I Can't Tell You Why.

They covered it?! I need to go listen. So I have to apologize for my brain fart, I said BeeGees when I meant Eagles (don't ask me how I made that mistake...it's late.) Anyway, Brownstone's version was the fourth and final single from their debut album, but didn't chart very high (54 Hot 100/22 r&b) and as far as I know, didn't get a video. I didn't realize until years later that it underperformed like that. I wore that cassette tape OUT.

Hey Mr. D.J. (you can get this started) Everybody's ready to party (all night, all night) All the girls are ready (so we can all get to it) So we can party 'till the break of dawn...#LisaRinna : 1 Sir Benji : 1 @antigonerising : 2 newpower : 2 CagedJuggalo The Third Tanker : 2Ky : 3 Wavey✨️ : 3 Exclusive : 4 .indulgecountry : 4 🇯🇲 dollybaby 🇯🇲 : 4 mamooshka : 4 SHOOTER : 4 @pma2015 : 4 B-Boy : 4 Caviar : 5 Soulsista : 5 Active Aggressive : 5 bat1990 : 6 divasummer : 6 Jay D83 : 6 Linnethia Monique : 7 @mirza : 8 Private Dancer : 9 Zinc. : 9 George : 10 PGriffin : 10 Sambalada : 11 Hey Mr. D.J. was the debut single released by Philly duo Zhané in August 1993. The pair met while attending Temple University and running into each other at various talent shows and other events; they started collaborating on each other's songs and became an official duo at record exec Benny Medina's suggestion after hearing them on DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's 1991 single Ring My Bell. HMD quickly climbed to the top-10 on the Hot 100 and top-3 on R&B and earned Gold status in American and Australia; their debut album, Pronounced Jah-Nay, produced two more top-10 R&B hits and earned Platinum status. Their sophomore album, 1997's Saturday Night, was largely considered a slump and the duo broke up by the end of the decade. As of today, they do not follow each other on Instagram so the chances of a reunion don't seem likely. If I let you come inside, tomorrow will you hide? Will you be there for me when I need someone to hold me Baby, don't misunderstand, I do want you for my man I just need a little time, before I invest my love...bat1990 : 1 Private Dancer : 1 Caviar : 1 SHOOTER : 1Linnethia Monique : 2 divasummer : 2 Sir Benji : 2 @mirza : 2 Wavey✨️ : 2 @antigonerising : 3 newpower : 3 🇯🇲 dollybaby 🇯🇲 : 3 Soulsista : 3 B-Boy : 3 Zinc. : 4 George : 4 Sambalada : 4 #LisaRinna : 4 @pma2015 : 5 .indulgecountry : 6 Active Aggressive : 6 Exclusive : 7 mamooshka : 7 CagedJuggalo The Third Tanker : 9 Ky : 10 Jay D83 : 11 PGriffin : 12 Jade's origin goes like this (per Wiki): Benford's plea worked and the new trio was signed to Giant Records. On the heels of I Wanna Love You's top-10 success was the release of their debut album, 1992's Jade to the Max, and their follow-up single Don't Walk Away. It rose to #4 on the Hot 100 and #2 on R&B and was their biggest success chart-wise. The album went Platinum and they would go on to earn four more top-20 R&B hits and release a Gold-certified sophomore album, Mind, Body & Song, in 1994. However, by 1997, they were without a deal and made their last appearance on The 6th Man soundtrack. In 2014, Jade reunited with 2/3 original members and released a new single entitled Baby Luv; a third album, Continuum, was talked about in interviews but never released. *** THANK YOU FOR RANKING!!! Pt. 3 of this series needs a little more time to be properly curated but will be coming soon!!!

soon as I saw this sentence I knew it had to be Tell Me. Le sighhhhhh. And I pegged it to be the dark horse that would win the whole thing. Wild! ...and it should have. Hmph. Groove Theory's album is STILL a timeless classic. OMG at YnVee or whatever though! I remember getting their CD for free. Love those gangsta bitches!! They had a cover of a classic on their album that I was obsessed with (and I think was a single, but don't remember). Anyway, thanks Shooter! This was fun!

SHOOTER, another great rankdown! Wish I was around for the final reveals but not complaints on how it played out. And thanks for all of the extras - I haven't heard most of these, so I'm very excited to check them out :) 5. Tell Me (#2) - I was wondering if this would sneak into the top spot. It feels universally well regarded. Probably would be in my top 20 favorite hits of all time. 4. Whatta Man (#5) - Great collaboration, and such an interesting tidbit about it being for the "Runaway Love" EP. Never woulda known! 3. If You Love Me (#1) - Probably one of my top 10 all time! I think the only girl group song that there'd be any chance of getting a higher rank from me would be "Don't Let Go (Love)" or "Stay" by Eternal. I like the singles from the first album better, but like their second album more overall ("Around You" is a stunning song). 2. Hey Mr. D.J. (#3) - Love this one so much, and it's probably my 3rd (or even 4th) favorite single from that first Zhane album. 1. Don't Walk Away (#10) - I probably should've ranked this #8. Love it, just love everything else more. This came out a little more before I really started following the charts, so I don't have the same kind of personal connection as I do to the songs from 94-97. Probably 3 Jade songs I like more than this one. During quarantine I finally listened to the Jade To The Max album and loved it. Can't wait to see what you have in store for Pt. 3.
