"The Hard Way" just has such an immediate and amazing melody. There has never been a moment that the "I keep living and loving and learning the hard way" lick has not immediately made my day better, lmao.
I think this turned a few heads when it came in second place in Faith's album tracks rd (and nearly won!!!!), because other songs were on people's radar ("You Give Me Love", "I Ain't Gonna Take It Anymore", "Break First", etc.) But, as happens in album tracks rds quite often, the songs with targets on their backs fell out in the 3-6 range and allowed for the top 2 to consist of some surprises!

Also a random prediction: Faith's "The Hard Way" did much better here than Pam's song of the same title is going to do in our next RotB rd

One of the most iconic hits of Tim's career bows out next! "Don't Take The Girl" is one of his best-known hits, but is also on the polarizing side due to overplay completely burying it in the ground for people. That polarizing nature made it unable to be a winner over "Not A Moment Too Soon"....yet it still apparently had enough support to eek out a slightly higher rank in this RotB rd than NAMTS just did in the BotB rd (it finished at #24 a few minutes ago)! Unfortunately ClevelandRox loses his #1 here. He joins great company in that club though, as I am also a member of the #1 loss club (Which means it's not too early for anyone else to lose theirs, tbh!) DTTG is a fantastic song, but SOOOOOO overplayed. It was very hard for me to rank! In the end the middle of my list felt just about right.

The dishonor of narrowly missing the top 20 once again falls upon George Strait in this rankdown just like it did in BotB. Although tbh this placement for "You Know Me Better Than That" makes waaaaaay more sense than "The Big One" missing the top 20 in BotB This is a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek type of song that frankly I expected to be polarizing. I'm actually surprised it lasted this long! It actually surpassed my own ranking! I do love this song, but it is nowhere near my favorite George songs, so it fell right in the middle of my list. Unfortunately George Strait Junkie runs out of luck with his #1 here :( At least his #1 in BotB remains! :)

sad to see "Don't Take The Girl" miss the Top 20 but not one bit surprised. That'll forever be one of my all time favorite songs. I just love that one.
I am hoping to see "The Cowboy In Me", "I Just Want To Dance With You", "I'd Rather Ride Around With You", "I Cross My Heart", and "Adalida" be among the next 5 to go with maybe "Damn Right" being out there too. I could see "My Mistake", "7500 OBO", "I'm Taking The Wheel", and "John Deere Greene" going too.

Bonus: "Kerosene" - Miranda Lambert
Finished at #2 in the: Best of the Best - Part IV rankdown (Host: bboat11)
"Kerosene" joined the rankdown winners for the first time when it won Miranda's Kerosene album rankdown in the previous set. Of course after that victory it got to appear in our previous Best of the Best rankdown, in which it stuck around for a powerful performance!! Ultimately it got thwarted by Trisha's own powerhouse "Walkaway Joe", relegating it to the #2 spot, which was honestly a bit of a surprise to me. It is very clear that this high-energy jam is a Pulse favorite!

Kicking off the top 20 for RotB is Cam's debut single, "My Mistake". This song is very catchy, and should have been much more successful on the radio than it was!!! I'm not surprised to see it make the top 20 here, as this is a great song, and Cam is very well liked around here.
She still has "Diane" in the running too! Anyone have an predictions for how well that one is going to do??

Oh look, recordyear finally lost his last place in one of these rankdowns ;) "7500 OBO" is just such a fascinating song to me. On the surface it has a really slick modern sheen that I feel like I should hate... But I'll be damned if it isn't an earworm! The melody is just so breezy and easy-going, and it feels like it will be perfect for driving around with the windows down once warmer weather finally starts to get here. Not to mention the interpolation of the iconic fiddle riff from "Where The Green Grass Grows"! My only complaint is that it was featured even more prominently! Will be interesting to see how this does in his Here On Earth album rd eventually (and probably the album tracks rankdown, since the label is stupid...)

Right after Tim McGraw lost a song at #19 in both rankdowns, Lee Ann Womack also loses a song at #18 in both rankdowns! I love the perspective of "The Way I'm Livin'". I particularly enjoy the fact that Lee Ann portrays an undesirable character here. That is honestly an underutilized trope in country music nowadays! Back in the golden days of the genre, people like Johnny Cash, George Jones, Merle Haggard, etc. were no stranger to songs about rough people doing rough things (Folsom Prison Blues, anyone?!) It's so fresh hearing a song like this from a modern artist. This song is just such an undeniable country jam as well, melodically! Unfortunately castleoblivion26 is the next person to lose their #1 :(

"Everybody Knows" is one of the three uptempo singles that Trisha Yearwood released in her entire career, and it has always been pretty well liked, so it's no surprise to me that this is her highest song in this rankdown! I was honestly shocked when "Believe Me Baby (I Lied)" snuck past this one for a win in the album rankdown, although I was not mad about it because I love both of them a lot (and I believe BMBIL was my #1).

The final song to miss out on the top 20 here is another jam from George Strait. "The Big One" is like one of the catchiest country songs of all time, period. I literally cannot fathom ranking it in the bottom 10. And yet that is exactly where our George Strait hater someguy , our man-hater .indulgecountry , and our '90s Country-hater kamala 2024 truther put it......none of whom were nearly as egregious though as randomly-floppy-for-no-reason austin !!! Aside from them, literally everybody else put it (nearly) in their top half This slander and defamation of my character, when Reba, Martina, Faith, and Trisha all sing some of my favorite songs of all time!!! Spoken like a raging Flopaholic!!!! Have y'all been paying attention to the Trisha rankings coming out of this bitch?!

"Whiskey And Rain" runs out of luck, missing the top 15 by one point!! Clearly Pulse loves this song, as I can't really imagine any other song by Michael Ray doing THIS well in a jam-packed rankdown like this. It'll be exciting to hear if the rest of his album is this good!!
