Being on the year end doesn’t mean you’ll be remembered. Even by chart nerds. When was the last time you thought about The Middle? Or Close to Me? Or Sweet But Psycho? Or Never Be the Same? Or Suge? Or even the remix of Roses? All of those songs were pretty big hits over the past three years (except for Close to Me, which was a mid sized hit), and most of the artists have charted this year. Conversely, songs like Juice, Lover, Physical, Sit Next to Me, Boy With Luv and Bloody Valentine are all way more remembered today than any of the songs I listed earlier. This is funny. Overall, I've probably thought about that first list of songs more than the latter.

Hm...so according to our friend here, our best case scenario for 98-100 would be "Tombstone", "Todo De Ti", and "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)", while the worst case scenario would be "Drinkin' Beer, Talkin' God. Amen", "Girls Want Girls", and "Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90s"/"Goosebumps" (both alright songs in my book, but lesser choices compared to the first three). Sad that "Damage" seems unlikely to sneak in, but if it's taking the possibility of a 2018 re-do with it (i.e. "Before You Go" + "ROCKSTAR"), that's fine by me. How I want the best case scenario to happen, especially with how consistently strong this Year-End list is shaping up to be! But after I jinxed "Drunk" 's chances to lock a few pages back, I rather not try any more manifestations. I have a few disagreements regarding mikerivera 's comment, but I upvoted it since I agree with the overall sentiment. More on that later.

I actually don't mind Goosebumps personally but I would also much rather the first 3 make it, the latter 3 making it would be really unfortunate

Looks like Adele's new single might even miss this year end (or at most be in the bottom 20) after all with underwhelming streaming longevity in US... It won't be very high on 2022 year end either as huge radio debut usually leads to poor radio longevity. Guess most people listen to this a few times on the initial release to try to convince themselves to love it, In the end they just ditch it from their playlist cuz the song was not that good (for Adele's standard) after all ...Could it be caught between years? I find the possibility of "Easy On Me" being caught between years to be highly unlikely, Like this song would literally have to quickly fall out of the Hot 100 during the 2022 chart year. I'll say that there is a close to 0% chance that this ends up happening so there is no need to worry.

Is it just me or does Leave the Door Open does not feel like it was as big as it was?

Is it just me or does Leave the Door Open does not feel like it was as big as it was? It felt like a hit that skewed to an older audience since it wasn't majorly fueled by tik Tok if I remember correctly

Conversely, songs like Juice, Lover, Physical, Sit Next to Me, Boy With Luv and Bloody Valentine are all way more remembered today than any of the songs I listed earlier. putting Sweet But Psycho in there kinda sabotages the point you're trying to make

I do get what point they are trying to make, but it's probably best seen by older songs. Don't Stop Me Now by Queen, an iconic song, only peaked at #86 and never made a year end. Purple Rain by Prince got caught between years. Stairway To Heaven never even charted.
I do agree with the overall thesis that songs don't need to make a year end to be classified as a "hit" (hell, in the grand scheme of things, songs that chart at all could be argued as being hits) and while songs making the year end definitely isn't a life or death situation, it is nice to have their names documented on the list. For me personally I just like to have my favourite songs make the year end so I can hear critics talk about it, since most critics refer to the year end for list season. Definitely not a big deal in the grand picture but I don't think anyone's actually making this their priority, there's nothing wrong with healthily being interested in this as long as you don't take it too seriously.

Maybe the better example would have been asking which song people know Europe for: Carrie or The Final Countdown

If they include 3 more weeks for the year-end (Nov 6, 13, 20) could Easy on Me make the 2021 year-end chart?

Also, Stay should beat out Butter for #11. I wish the year-end charts would finish at least until the last week of November (11/27) like they used to do before 2018. Since 2018 they have been finishing the chart on mid-november.

In an ideal world, what should the 2021 year end top 10 look like to best reflect the biggest songs of the year in the U.S?
I would say
1. Good 4 U 2. Stay 3. Drivers License 4. Montero 5. Levitating 6. Save Your Tears 7. Kiss Me More 8. Industry Baby 9. Peaches 10. Leave The Door Open

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some organized campaign for it to chart.

Leave The Door Open Ooh this is fun, from what I've heard in public and from DJing local gigs this year here's what I would assume were the biggest hits of 2021: 1. Good 4 U 2. Levitating 3. Drivers License 4. Kiss Me More 5. Stay 6. Montero 7. Heat Waves 8. Peaches 9. Save Your Tears 10. Industry Baby Other 2021 songs that seem a lot bigger than billboard would suggest: - Fancy Like - Need To Know - Whoopty - Thot s**t - Streets - Way 2 Sexy - Good Days - Telepatia - Beggin - Pepas - Happier Than Ever - several Morgan Wallen songs

Since most predictors are quitting... I guess this year-end prediction series is also coming to an end (Well, depends on if HDD will still release their song revenue chart & streaming chart without Alpha Data)

Im just hoping they can get this week and next and finalize the projections for this year. I can try to estimate the final weeks of November and December for the JD list, but it would be a massive shame if we couldn't keep this going in 2022 and beyond.

While good 4 u is certainly the bigger chart hit, I strongly believe driver’s license will be the better remembered song. Sort of like Elton John’s Your Song has become better remeothan many of his bigger hits.
