Tbh as for the good songs there's enough of them to make this a decent year but I really can't put them in any order besides my #1 and #2 so I might honestly skip that too

imo that makes for a pretty mid year, 2013 quality i'd say. nothing truly horrendous but a lot of filler

I don’t know about that. 1984, 1985, 1998, and 2004 have YE Top 10’s that are far better than this year.

The thing about this year’s top 10 is that it’s almost all good songs, but only 4 songs I would say are amazing, one of which was from last year. Like, it’s probably the most consistently good top 10 I’ve ever seen, but not one overflowing with songs that I imagine will be considered classics. Let’s compare that to some of the other legendary top 10s and the songs I would consider amazing

1983: Every Breath You Take, What a Feeling, Billie Jean, Beat It, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Maneater, Maniac, and Sweet Dreams
1984: When Doves Cry, What’s Love Got to Do With It, Footloose, Jump, Ghostbusters, Owner of a Lonely Heart, and Karma Chameleon
1985: Careless Whisper, Like a Virgin, I Want to Know What Love Is, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Crazy For You and Take On Me
1987: Walk Like an Egyptian, Alone, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Here I Go Again, and Livin On a Prayer
2004: Yeah, Burn, If I Ain’t Got You, This Love, The Way You Move and Hey Ya

Even comparing it to last year, we had Blinding Lights, Circles, The Box, Don’t Start Now, Rockstar and Adore You. 6 songs I would consider a 9 or 10. Compared to 4 this year, one of which is Blinding Lights repeating

I am so glad I'm not the only one with this sentiment regarding the "Put Your Records On" cover! It's clear to me Momney never intended his version to become a bigger hit than the original (in the US, at least), and didn't cheaply capitalize on nostalgia, but just wanted to pay tribute to such a beautiful and relaxing tune in a more experimental way - even if the execution wasn't the best. It makes me respect the cover much more compared to something like "ily" from last year (among my top 10 worst of 2020) or those awful Kygo 'remixes' of classic songs (sans "Higher Love").
