I wasn't sure about the age, but my younger sister is 16, so I used that as my basis haha. She was super obsessed with them when she was 13, but she and her friends have since grown bored of them now that she's older. I would like to see that census out of curiosity, so let me know if you find it. I wouldn't be surprised about the 30+ fact, as they have done well recently on AC radio, so that would make sense. Obviously my students aren't all students around Korea, but what I stated before is normally the general consensus with the ages here. One thing to remind everyone: while BTS is huge worldwide and people there would die for them and buy every song/album as many times as they can, here in Korea they are just one of the most popular groups and nothing more. Their songs don't linger on Korean charts for much longer than 2-3 months due to the constant turnover for songs and KPOP groups are always putting new music out quickly anyways. I think the one BTS song that has stayed on the Melon charts for a very long time (approximately 4 years) is Spring Day no? I have a couple of friends living there now and the one song they say that’s pretty well known is Spring Day due to the Ferry accident a couple years ago. Dynamite has been doing pretty good there too mostly as a ripple effect from the Billboard charts here.

The album is doing a bit worse on streaming than I thought. They might have peaked sales-wise with their previous album but all it takes a second huge smash a la Dynamite to recover so we shall see. The sales were larger last album because there were four versions of it for $20 each. There’s a big chunk of fans who bought all four. This album is only one and $50. If they had just done two standard versions the sales would probably be bigger than MOTS7. They did say this was a special album due to COVID so that’s probably why they only did one. We shall see next time they release an album which I would say would be mid-2021.

Love how well researched the journalist was for this. Probably one of their best interviews/ pieces about them.

I actually had a feeling HITS held off on giving projections because they were a bit lower than expected and they were thinking they’d increase by now lol.
This projection being under their initial 300k makes even more sense to them holding off so long.

That's not a bad prediction. Hopefully it can go higher. Happy for them!

Seriously- selling that many albums. At that price. Especially when you can listen to songs for free on Youtube.

Maybe they should have had a normal price edition.
I didn't expect a drop at all from the last project. But the hype has always been way bigger than the numbers. Even when the last album dropped Twitter would have made you believe they were outselling Adele.

I went ahead and bought that $50 album. The contents alone are well worth the price so fans will and are buying it. I’m guessing that this number includes their website sales? They sold this album on two different store sites for their USA sales.
As for numbers. There’s are only 8 tracks on the album and 7 if you aren’t streaming the skit. Mots 7 had more than double that.
The hype is far from gone and if you actually listen to the album, it’s really some of their best work to date.
I expect that number to increase.

Expected numbers in a range a bit higher than this but these figures are still great.

I think you are right about that one, as that Ferry accident has affected a lot of my students that some can't watch Titanic anymore because it feels too real. I remember that song as one of the better performing ones here yeah, but the Melon charts are the same as Spotify charts, meaning staying on there a long time doesn't mean that you stay a long time on the Gaon Chart, Korea's weekly chart similar to Billboard. In spotify, No Role Modelz by J. Cole and XO Tour Llif3 by Lil Uzi Vert have been on the top 200 daily chart for over 1000 days, but it doesn't mean they are still super popular anymore, much like the Melon charts.

Thank you for the info. I’m moving to Seoul at the end of next year so I’m still trying to familiarize myself with how things work over there.

I recommend you both do it, it’s a great place to live. I love it here and unlike America, Korea is actually taking steps to slow down the virus so you actually get to stuff here lol. For example, it’s a $100 fine for not even wearing a mask and the fee always increases the next time you’re caught.

Still no numbers for the rest of the top 20? I wonder what the delay is. Maybe hits is scared to release the rest of the albums because BTS fans will attack them for making people believe there is other albums that exist.

^Anyway, since today is Tuesday, we should be getting the top 20 midweek projections later in the day. Until then, we can only speculate.

Disney+ doing these musical specials makes me reminiscence about their concert specials in the ’90s. That’s what really broke NSYNC in America.

TOP 20: BE ALL AND END ALL BTS will score its second #1 debut of 2020 with BE (BigHit/Columbia). Christmas music starts making its move, with Carrie Underwood’s My Gift (Capitol Nashville) likely re-entering the Top 10 after having opened at #8 two months ago with 43k. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday and early Black Friday sales, please expect a greater than usual margin of error.

That’s possible. I expect Dolly Parton to inch up closer to the top too. I believe she aired a holiday special over the weekend.

BTS equals zzzz. Imagine stanning for such a manufactured pop production. I am here for Asian representation but not that.
