The BR250, November 30, 2020
There is very little activity on the BR250 this week as the year starts to wind down. This is quite a difference from the same time last year when a bunch of songs blasted onto the chart (I was monthly instead of bi-monthly at that point). 7 songs entered the top 25 from outside the top 250 in November last year (including a #1 debut for “Don’t Start Now”, #4 for Coldplay’s “Orphans” and #9 for “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish), down to only 3 this year (“Positions”, “Sweet Melody” by Little Mix and Foo Fighters’ “Shame, Shame”).
“Midnight Sky” has spent a full 3 months at the summit, actually increasing in points a bit from the last chart. Her mash up remix with Stevie Nicks "Edge of Midnight" is also on the chart at #211 and her remake of Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" falls to #238.. Only 5 songs in the top 25 lost points but there were no major increases except for “Diamonds” and “Sweet Melody” within the top 25.
“Therefore I Am” by Billie Eilish is the highest debut in the BR250 at #47, though perhaps a bit of a disappointment. Also a surprise is that Ariana Grande’s “34 + 35” only moves 141-74 (while “Positions” holds at #7) so neither of these artists are quite repeating their recent successes.
No one can touch Dua Lipa on the BR250 this year. 2 new duets keep her moving forward with “Fever” moving 117-85 and her collab with Miley “Prisoner” enters at #118 in its first week out. This makes 11 songs in the past year to grace the BR250. Of those, 3 hit #1 and 2 peaked at #2. Cyrus I'm sure is hoping Lipa can help her get into the top 10 in the States again. It has been a struggle for some time. Her latest album "Plastic Hearts" was just released this past Friday.
