9. "Always On My Mind"bboat11 - 3 🌺CountryLineDancer - 5 tim - 7 HeyHeyHey - 13 TOTAL: 28 At #9 is "Always On My Mind". This song has been recorded and performed many times throughout the years by artists such as Elvis Prestley and Brenda Lee. However, the version I know best is the Grammy Award-winning Willie Nelson version. This was a #1 for Willie back in the '80s. I hate to be the downer of the group but I just have never loved this song or Scotty's performance of it. I am not really sure why and I know I am in the minority on this one. bboat11 and 🌺CountryLineDancer both lose a top 5 placement here.

8. "Country Comfort"🌺CountryLineDancer - 2 tim - 6 bboat11 - 9 HeyHeyHey - 10 TOTAL: 27 The first participant to lose a top 2 rank is 🌺CountryLineDancer! "Country Comfort" lands at #8 and is actually tied with another song but this one has less top 2 placements. This song was originally performed by Elton John - and the theme the week this song was performed on American Idol. I thought it was a cover of the song but it didn't stand out to me amongst some of most of his other performances.

7. "Gone"HeyHeyHey - 2 tim - 2 bboat11 - 10 🌺CountryLineDancer - 13 TOTAL: 27 At #7 is "Gone". Montgomery Gentry took this song all the way to #3 on the Hot Country Songs chart back in 2005 and it has always been one of my favorite songs by them. I think Scotty's performance of this song is awesome and super fun! I have been listening to this one a lot in recent months. tim ranked this at #2 as well and for that reason it beats out "Country Comfort" in the tie. This was a bottom-two rank for 🌺CountryLineDancer. Everyone's bottom three is now eliminated and we have made it to our top six!

6. "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)"tim - 5 bboat11 - 6 🌺CountryLineDancer - 6 HeyHeyHey - 9 TOTAL: 26 At #6 is the cover of Alan Jackson's song "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)". This song is absolutely gorgeous and really gives listeners a sense of all the emotions people may have felt right after 9/11. It is such a well-written and amazing song. Scotty did a beautiful version of it during the final 4 round - 'Songs That Inspire'. The highest ranking was from tim who placed this at #5 and the only reason I was the lowest ranker here is because I haven't really gone back to it much since I re-listened to the album and sometimes that usually determines my rankings quite a bit.

I love Always On My Mind as a song, but the performance was a little bit flat. But again, still a great song.
Country Comfort, on the other hand, I really liked it as a performance when I looked back, if not memorable.
I didn't love Scotty's vocal for Gone. The chorus sounded a little forced. It's a fun, uptempo song, so wasn't a bad choice for AI performance.
Where Were You has an amazing instrument for sure, and a solid performance.

I haven’t had a chance yet to comment, so thought it would be a good time to catch up before the finale.
There weren’t any surprises in the bottom 4 as each one of those songs I had ranked as such. “Young Blood” made the most sense to leave first as it stood out like a sore thumb from everything else Scotty performed on American Idol. I found myself rather bored with his rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend” hence my bottom 2 ranking. And besides the original, the only cover version I ever seem to listen to is by Don Williams.
Speaking of originals, it’s a tall order to cover John Anderson’s “Swingin’” as his as gone on to become a country classic. It’s also hard to try and mimic John’s vocal inflection which sometimes doesn’t come across as well with other performers (although Terri Clark sure likes to try lol). Anyways, this was fun but not really a standout.
The same goes for “Always On My Mind” as I and so many others hold that song in pretty high regard. Nothing will ever compare to Willie’s, but all things considered I thought Scotty did a solid job with it as he was able to showcase another side of his talent with a ballad.
“Country Comfort” was such a standout! This is definitely in Scotty’s wheelhouse and so I’m surprised to see it be one of the more polarizing songs.
While “Gone” has personally never been one of my favorites from Montgomery & Gentry, I quite enjoyed the energy Scotty displayed in this and found it to be one of the more memorable covers that certainly made an impression (for better or worse it seems lol).
As for the top 5, I still have my #1 remaining as well as #3 and #4. My two lowest-ranked songs are #9 and #10, although I’m not too surprised that both of those landed in the top 5. I’d have to guess that this is “I Love You This Big” to lose.

5. "I Cross My Heart"bboat11 - 2 HeyHeyHey - 3 🌺CountryLineDancer - 9 tim - 10 TOTAL: 24 At #5 is "I Cross My Heart". This song appears in the movie Pure Country and was originally recorded and released by George Strait. I personally love this song and can say that it is in my top 3 favorite songs by George Strait. Scotty's version is really nice as well and one of the songs from this compilation album I have returned to quite a bit since I first re-listened to the album. bboat11 and I both placed this in our top 3. "I Cross My Heart" actually ties with the song at #4 but that one received a #1 rank....

4. "Amazed"bboat11 - 1 HeyHeyHey - 7 🌺CountryLineDancer - 7 tim - 9 TOTAL: 24 At #4 is one of the three songs Scotty performed during the final 3 round. "Amazed" was a huge hit for Lonestar in 1999-2000 reaching the #1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and the Billboard Hot 100. It made it all the way to #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #7 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. It really is one of the ultimate country love songs. Scotty does a really great version of this one! bboat11 is the first to lose a #1-ranked song. This is a song that I will absolutely return to. Up next: Someone else loses their #1!

If you’re going to cover a George Strait song, you better be able to knock it out of the park for me because I’m going to set the bar pretty high going into it. Scotty didn’t meet that threshold for me and I actually found myself quite bored with his cover.
Same could probably be said for “Amazed”, but in this case it’s such an overplayed song as it. I probably could’ve ranked this a few spots higher, but I just found myself enjoying some of the other covers more than this.
And that’s a solid top three as I still have my #1, #2, and #4 songs remaining! I still think “I Love You This Big” will come out on top leaving the remaining two songs fighting it out for a top 2 showing.

3. "Can I Trust You With My Heart"🌺CountryLineDancer - 1 tim - 4 HeyHeyHey - 6 bboat11 - 8 TOTAL: 19 Coming in at #3 is "Can I Trust You With My Heart". Scotty performed this song during the top 12 round when the theme was 'Year You Were Born'. "Can I Trust You With My Heart" is a cover of the '90s hit by Travis Tritt. With this reveal - 🌺CountryLineDancer loses a #1 rank. This means we have made it to our top 2! There is only a one point difference between the two songs so it was a very close race.

2. "The River"tim - 3 🌺CountryLineDancer - 3 HeyHeyHey - 4 bboat11 - 5 TOTAL: 15 At #2 is "The River". Scotty covered this song, which was a huge hit for Garth Brooks, during the top 13 round of American Idol when the theme was 'Your Personal Idol'. I think this is a great performance and one of the songs on the album I have returned to since re-listening to it for this rankdown. All participants ranked this in their top 5 which landed it a spot inside the top 2 even though none of us ranked it in our top 2. Which leads us to our #1.... 1. "I Love You This Big"HeyHeyHey - 1 tim - 1 bboat11 - 4 🌺CountryLineDancer - 8 TOTAL: 14 The winner of the ' American Idol Season 10: Scotty McCreery' album rankdown is "I Love You This Big". tim and I both ranked this at #1 which really helped in securing it's #1 placement. This was Scotty's first single to country radio reaching #15 on the Hot Country Songs chart. "I Love You This Big" appears on his first studio album ' Clear As Day' which we ranked earlier this year. It ended up placing at #8 on that rankdown. I love this song and I am so glad it ended up at #1 on here! My next post will be about perfect ranks! Thank you to all who participated!

"Can I Trust You With My Heart" was an instant standout the first moment I listened to it. As a fan of the original version from Travis Tritt, I think Scotty did a good job of taking this and making it his own.

"The River" is a perfect fit for Scotty's voice and it was yet another cover that was an instant favorite when I heard it. Whereas Garth's original version is a bit more subdued, the production of Scotty's was a bit more expansive but in the end it worked in his favor. I really couldn't have put anything else up top given that "I Love You This Big" is an original song and everything else were covers. It's by no means something that I ever revisit, but it made for a solid debut. I do wish we had gotten a few more participants as I think the due date around the Memorial Day weekend holiday may have been one of the reasons for the lack of participation. Considering that I chose to go with the American Idol album makes me feel a tad bit responsible lol. Anyways, thanks for hosting this HeyHeyHey !

Can I Trust You With My Heart is my fav performance by Scotty. The whole performance is perfect; he starts the verse kinda quietly where his signature low-tone voice stands out well, and as the song goes on, he sings with more and more energy. And I love the vocal at the ending. The River is also a solid performance, and he nailed the key change! I Love You This Big, on the other hand, is a solid song, and key change was great, but his vocal did not stand out as much as other songs did to me. It was fun to re-visit my favourite contestant from AI Season 10. I enjoyed it in a different way from before, as I am following country music more eagerly now than I was when I saw these performances back in the day. Thanks for hosting HeyHeyHey

I meant to do this as a big Idol fan it would've been fun to revisit his performances even if he wasn't my pick for the top...7 lol Haley was still robbed this season If ever there was a rankdown for her or Lauren's performances I'd be so so down lol

I have never been a fan of "Always On My Mind", as I find the song to be really boring as a general rule. However, in this particular rankdown I thought that Scotty sounded really good on it! He is not an artist who automatically sounds good on everything to me, so the fact that I thought his voice complemented this song perfectly helped it to do very well on my list! Like, while "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" is a song I would absolutely consider to overall be a better song than this one, it was not nearly as good in Scotty's hands as AOMM was. "Gone" has a really grating melody in general that is only worth listening to because it has a little bit of campiness that makes it endearing, so you can kinda come to love it for similar reasons to why you would enjoy most of Shania's output. That being said, Scotty has the wrong voice type for this song. Troy Gentry tackled this with a characteristic flair that was perfect for his voice. Scotty's voice is more like if Eddie Montgomery tried to sing lead on "Gone". I mean, Eddie is way more of a natural bass than Scotty is, but you know what I mean. It's just not the right fit! I LOVE "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)"!!!! But Scotty's performance was just plain average. His sounded like a cheap karaoke version. His vocal is technically adequate, like he hits all the notes, but it had none of the tender nuance of Alan's vocal that made this song the huge meaningful hit that it was. Part of that is due to his youth undoubtedly. Alan himself recorded this in his vocal prime after a couple decades of practice! I found Scotty's to have a few annoyingly predictable vocal tics that really took me out of the song. For example, he likes to crack his voice by making words sound like they start with the letter "h", lmao. In the chorus especially, he did this on "I'm just a singer hof simple songs", and it just plain didn't sound good, but he did it every...single...time...with seemingly no regard for whether it was necessary or not. Same thing for the "Remember this from when I hwas young" line. It's like Stewie Griffin with the "Cool Hwhip" bit from Family Guy Of course Alan kinda cracks his voice in the middle of the "I'm just a singer of simple songs" line too, as would most country artists tbh. It's just a characteristic of the country sound! But his is so smooth and natural, it fits the song perfectly, while Scotty's is so pronounced it interrupts the entire flow of the line. Idk, maybe it's just the cheap production. But it distracted me and prevented me from putting this in my top 5, when it would have otherwise been a #1 contender based on the strength of the song alone. "I Cross My Heart" benefits from being one of the best songs in this list by a country mile......but unlike WWYWTWST Scotty's vocal didn't completely take me out of the song, which is why it was an EASY top 2 contender for me here! Like I will obviously reach for George's whenever I get the urge to listen to this song, but Scotty did a nice job with it. "Amazed" is in a similar boat to "I Cross My Heart" for me. I love the original, and Scotty's voice didn't take me out of it, so... That's pretty much all it took to be my top 2 in this rankdown I'm a bit surprised by the performance of "Can I Trust You With My Heart"! I love many of Travis Tritt's hits, but this isn't one that I ever really remember or revisit all that much. Scotty did fine with it, but the lack of familiarity put it behind several songs on my list I guess. "The River" is an amazing song, and Scotty did an amazing job with it!!! Not surprised to see it do well!! I don't think I was expecting "I Love You This Big" to win this thing! All of the singles on his debut album were so reviled, lmao... That being said, I feel like I loved this song a LOT more here than I did on his debut album? I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think he legit sounded great here despite the cheap production! It's almost like some of the soul was sucked out of the song when it was given the bigger production budget for his debut album. I'm not at all disappointed to see it win!

Wait is this recording of "I Love You This Big" the exact same one that ended up on his debut album? I just assumed it would have been rerecorded for the debut album, but I just tried listening to them side by side and they sounded identical... Lmao
