#7. "Walk In The Country"Kanenrá:ke - 1 HeyHeyHey - 3 castleoblivion26 - 7 ClevelandRox - 7 tim - 8 .indulgecountry - 10 bboat11 - 11 TOTAL: 47 Beating #8 and #9 by just one point is "Walk In The Country". With this reveal, Kanenrá:ke unfortunately loses a #1 rank while I lose all three of my top 3 ranked songs in a row. On the opposite end, bboat11 and .indulgecountry both lose one of their bottom three placements. In no particular order, here is what we have left: Dirty DishesWater Tower TownClear As DayBetter Than ThatOut Of SummertimeBack On The Ground

If you like Scotty’s version of the song check out Keith Urban’s version. Keith actually wrote this one!

Overall a pretty good start for this one! I don't think I can complain about anything! The first two singles to this have just not aged well at all... I'm impressed we got them right!! "I Love You This Big" is far and away the better of the two, so I'm glad to see it make it a few positions in. The melody to that one is just a little bit bland. Whereas "The Trouble With Girls" aged so horribly because of the lyrics being sexist trash.

The two big singles from the album are laughably bad, I already didn't love him on Idol (Lauren vs. Haley would've been a killer finale!!) and then he came with such bad material it's a surprise how much I liked his 3rd album!
Very happy to see them out early!
"That Old King James" is fine and honestly one of the better tracks here.
"Write My Number On Your Hand" is juvenile but he was still a kid so I can give it some credit. Honestly never need to hear this again though.
"You Make That Look Good"....I don't remember this at all lol
"Walk In The Country" is a bland cover of a great Keith Urban song which means it's pretty much the best track here imo. He actually sounds kind of engaged with the material here.

#5. "Dirty Dishes".indulgecountry - 1 castleoblivion26 - 2 ClevelandRox - 6 Kanenrá:ke - 7 tim - 7 HeyHeyHey - 8 bboat11 - 9 TOTAL: 40 Kicking off our top 5 is "Dirty Dishes" which I found to be a nice song. I've actually gone back to this one a few times since I ranked the album and if I were to do the ranking today I would've put it a few spots higher. I think this is a really creative song that really reminds you what is important in life and to be greatful for things like "dirty dishes". With this reveal, .indulgecountry loses a #1 rank while castleoblivion26 loses a #2 rank. Nobody put this in their bottom three. Nobody ranked the next song at #1 but a few ranked it really close!

#4. "Better Than That"bboat11 - 2 ClevelandRox - 2 Kanenrá:ke - 3 .indulgecountry - 4 castleoblivion26 - 4 tim - 9 HeyHeyHey - 12 TOTAL: 36 Landing at #4 is "Better Than That". While it didn't receive any #1 ranks, it did receive two #2 ranks from bboat11 and ClevelandRox. This one just didn't click for me for some reason and I wish that it did. The lyrics and vibe of it are fine but I don't like the background vocals saying "your love it better than" for some odd reason...

#3. "Clear As Day"bboat11 - 1 tim - 3 .indulgecountry - 3 HeyHeyHey - 4 ClevelandRox - 5 castleoblivion26 - 9 Kanenrá:ke - 10 TOTAL: 35 What a heartbreaking song!!! Landing at #3 is "Clear As Day". For almost the entirety of this song I was thinking "alright, this is fine" but then the twist ending happened and I thought "wow". This really is a beautiful song in my opinion and very descriptive. With this reveal bboat11 loses his #1 ranked song. This song is actually tied with the song that landed at #2 but it lost the tie-breaker because it's second highest rank was higher than #3. Maybe bboat11 will make a new rule stating any rankdowns that consist of a tie in the top 3 need to be broken with the song he placed higher being higher.

Maybe bboat11 will make a new rule stating any rankdowns that consist of a tie in the top 3 need to be broken with the song he placed higher being higher. Well, that was uncalled for... Anyway, "Clear As Day" is the obvious standout on this forgettable album. Given the lyrical and emotional content, the best comparison I can think of is some of the emotional album tracks that Tim McGraw has been known to surprise us with throughout his career, like "You Had To Be There" or "Love You Goodbye". The only noteworthy difference between this song and Tim's is that Tim's are always surrounded by much stronger competition as well...

Relistening to "Back On The Ground" now... I had it at #3, but couldn't remember it, lol. But now that I'm hearing it again, I remember why I ranked it so high! This is a touching song, especially for those who have lost their mother and can no longer enjoy those comfortable, welcoming moments just sitting with her and talking.
"Water Tower Town" is by far the best of the singles, so no surprise seeing it last into the top 2. This has a nice energy to it.

Oh thank GOD that "Back on the Ground" won. I almost put that one #1 because it is a truly phenomenal song. "Water Tower Town" is... anything but, lol. I can't believe that paint-by-numbers generic mediocrity made the top 2. There's quite a few songs on this album that feel like the definition of filler, but that one is tops for me. It feels so painfully bland like it was created by a group of songwriters who only vaguely knew what country music was about and came up with a list of tropes and just threw them into a blender. Even the title makes no sense, as if having a water tower is associated only with small towns.
