2020 Chart Run: 30-16-13-10-6-4-4-4-3-3-3-3-1-5-5-7-12-20-27-30-36-39-44-41-36-36-32-39-39-40-40-39-35-38-...
Angels & Airwaves always give me nostalgia. No matter what song from them I hear, I'm reminded of a time when I'd listen to them often with songs like "The Adventure" and "Surrender". "All That's Left Is Love" does that the most of their three recent singles. The song was actually written in a way that's directly related to the COVID pandemic, but not in a way that makes the song dated. It's essentially one of those "times are tough, but just be optimistic" songs, which might sound clichΓ© but this song was released at a time when I just needed to hear that. I was stressed about my health, school, and money and this song just gave me joy and never failed to put me in a good mood and make me realize that this whole pandemic is just an obstacle that will eventually pass by. I have a lot of respect for Tom DeLonge and A&A for releasing this as I'm sure others felt the same way. It also has some nice 2000s vibes, which makes the song musically engaging and is the reason why I get a rush of nostalgia when hearing it.

Before Summertime Madness, I did not know who Jessie Ware was and "The Kill" was the first song I had ever heard from her. It was a discovery for me, which was sent by Darkest Hour. Since then, I've listened to the full album front-to-back and I think it's probably Album of the Year for me. It's probably the best pop album I've heard in years. The album's high points are phenomenal, and even the weaker tracks like "Ooh La La" and "Read My Lips" are still solid tunes. "What's Your Pleasure?" and "Adore You" are currently charting high on my chart and I've been really digging "Spotlight" lately. So yeah, I f**king adore this album and it's certainly not going away from my chart anytime soon. "The Kill" is one of the many high points as it's different from the rest of the album. It's almost like a ballad in a way and it's really gorgeous. The songwriting is great, I really love her voice, and the production is very vibey. It feels very sensual and very cinematic and I think that's why the song really grabbed me on first listen. It was the first ever Madness discovery to hit #1 on my chart (shortly followed by "Aries") and I honestly think the song and Jessie Ware in general are the best takeaways I've had from a Madness game thus far. I just can't get enough of this album. It's phenomenal.

Earlier I mentioned that The Killers dropped one of the best albums of 2020. After the promising lead single, I knew The Killers had something else amazing on the way. "My Own Soul's Warning" is the opening track and I can't think of a better way to open up such an amazing album. It starts off a little slow, but once that instrumental kicks in, it becomes a full-on jam. I love the production, I love the synths, I love Brandon Flowers' voice. The chorus is perfection and the guitar solo towards the end is just everything. I adore everything about this song and in a year of struggle and sadness in the world, this is exactly what I needed. It brought me joy with how uplifting and upbeat it is. I'm happy that The Killers came back strong in 2020. They had three #1 hits on my chart, all of which are still charting as we move into 2021. But I'll always remember "My Own Soul's Warning" as one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups. They hit a home run with this one and the whole album.

Another album that I enjoyed quite a bit in 2020 was Tame Impala's The Slow Rush. I don't really remember how a few of the songs sound, but the album has a handful of highlights, which includes "Breathe Deeper". I love this song and I remember it being the main standout when I heard the full album the first time. There's just something about this song's production that's very engaging. It's not boring and it's certainly not annoying in any way. It just has a really cool beat and a solid bassline with nice keys sprinkled in there as well. Kevin Parker delivers once again with the vocals and the instrumentals. The song is over 6 minutes long but I enjoy every moment of it, especially that outro. It's very cool, very fresh, and very enjoyable. Definitely one of my favorites from that album and it's had an insanely good chart run this year having charted since April and spending two weeks at #1. I feel like this song doesn't enough love in general compared to the two bigger singles, but we did get a music video for it recently, which is definitely something.

In addition to "Breathe Deeper", one of the other highlights from The Slow Rush is "Lost In Yesterday", which was also the album's most successful single. This song was released not long after I first started getting into Tame Impala and I loved it from first listen. It's vibey, it's catchy, and it has really nice instrumentals. The production is really good, which is what I expect from a Tame Impala track. It's also the most mainstream-sounding song on the album, which is probably why it was released as a single and why it clicked with me so instantly. It has a strong replay value, which is probably why it's been on my chart since January. But Tame Impala have been a strong presence on my chart through the whole year with this, "Breathe Deeper", "Borderline", and "Tomorrow's Dust", all of which are charting at the moment and while "Borderline" has the longest chart run of the year, "Lost In Yesterday" holds the title for the second longest chart run. I'm happy that it turned out to be a hit for Kevin and I'm sure it'll always be a favorite of mine.

2020 Chart Run: 14-10-12-18-2-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-4-3-2-4-5-4-5-6-6-7-9-16-25-30-33-37-38-36-40-42-45-37-42-Off
This song is not from 2020, but it wasn't until late 2019 that I decided to finally check it out. At that time, "Alligator" had already been a #1 hit for 2 weeks and "Wars" was rising on the chart as well. But "Wild Roses" just blew me away. It starts off kind of low key and slow, but that chorus is explosive and it's beautiful. That's when the drums really kick in, the band gets to shine, and Nanna really belts out with that amazing voice she has. It's a beautifully-written, powerful song and it really dominated during the first half of the year on my chart. It debuted early in January with the highest debut of the year and went on to hit #1 for 6 weeks, the second longest run at #1 of 2020. It outdid the success of "Alligator" and while I think both songs are fantastic, I think I prefer "Wild Roses" as I find it to be one of the best songs of their career. And I've been a fan of these guys ever since "Little Talks" was a hit and I really enjoyed their My Head Is An Animal album. They've become one of my favorite bands over the years and "Wild Roses" is a standout in their discography. It's a truly gorgeous song.

It was early March when I saw that The Killers had released a new song and had a new album on the way. I've been a fan of The Killers for many years now as they're one of those bands I grew up listening to. "Caution" is honestly four and a half minutes of pure joy and words can't even explain how excited I was at the thought of a new album after hearing that song. I love the way it opens up before the instrumentals and production kick in. The verses are great and the chorus is fantastic. The song is so well-written all the way through. Brandon Flowers absolutely nails it on the vocals here and I can feel the passion in his voice. The song is uplifting, it's heartfelt, and it's fun. This is the song that helped get me through quarantine this year. When I was in a little bit of a depressive state and under a lot of stress, "Caution" was there to lift my mood and fill me with joy, which is what I needed during the first few months of quarantine, which is why the song spent a record-tying 13 weeks at #1 from mid-April to mid-July. This probably seems like an obvious #1 for me because anyone who knows me knows that I adore this song, and anyone who follows my chart knows about its insanely long run at #1. But it's just that phenomenal in my eyes and I see it as the one song that defined my year in 2020. It just wouldn't have felt right to have any other song at #1. "Caution" is outstanding and it looks like they're already teasing another album release in 2021!

Yay, I correctly predicted your #1 (not that it was hard :kii:)!
Great chart, I love how "The Kill" is the most successful Jessie Ware song :)

I've been an occasional fan of The 1975 ever since they released "Chocolate" all those years ago. Last year, "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)" reached the Top 2 on my chart and landed in the Top 15 of 2019. But this year they released what I think is probably the best song of their career, which is "If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)". I didn't chart this one instantly since "Me & You Together Song" was still having its chart run at the time, but "If You're Too Shy" just progressively got better every time I heard it. This song screams the 80s and I love that about it. It's so much fun. The instrumentation is super strong. The saxophone solo is amazing and it's like the icing to an already delicious cake. Matty's vocals are excellent here and the song is just a total jam. These guys are definitely going to have a hard time topping this masterpiece. @greento this is your moment

Glad Real Love Song made it!! Itβs one of my favourites by NBT but it seems to not get as much love as most of their other stuff. Of course happy about The 1975 making the list! If youβre too shy is definitely one of their best and deserves all the praise it gets. Nice chart Adrian C. π
