What US state seems to have given us the best overall group of country singers?
Here are some states and notable examples I can think of at the top of my head:
Texas: George Strait Miranda Lambert Maren Morris George Jones Kacey Musgraves
Alabama: Hank Williams
Jason Isbell Riley Green Jamey Johnson
Mississippi: Faith Hill Charley Pride Conway Twitty
Hardy
Kentucky: Loretta Lynn Carly Pearce
Arkansas: Johnny Cash Justin Moore Conway Twitty (Not sure if Arkansas or Mississippi should claim him)
Oklahoma: Carrie Underwood Garth Brooks Blake Shelton Reba McEntire Toby Keith Joe Diffie Vince Gill
Georgia: Alan Jackson Jason Aldean Lauren Alaina Thomas Rhett Luke Bryan
Sam Hunt
Cole Swindell Travis Tritt
Tennessee: Dolly Parton
Dustin Lynch Morgan Wallen Kenny Chesney
Kelsea Ballerini
North Carolina: Luke Combs Scotty McCreery Chris Lane
Charlie Daniels Ronnie Milsap Eric Church Randy Travis Chase Rice Kellie Pickler
There seems to be something in the water in Oklahoma with Garth, Carrie, and Reba all hailing from there.

Cool idea! It probably would take a lot of research, but it would be fun to see every state's list. Especially the ones not typically thought of right away as states likely to produce a Country artist.

Missouri would be in the running off the strength of Sara Evans, David Nail, and Sheryl Crow, but Tyler Farr exists unfortunately. </3
Of the options listed above, I feel like Oklahoma and Texas stand out as the most 'iconic' states in terms of producing the biggest hitmakers.

Still waiting for someone from New Hampshire or Maine to make it big! at least Jo Dee Messina is from MA so that is a neighbor to us here in New Hampshire! It would be cool to see someone make it big from either NH or Maine though

It is weird that Alabama claims Sara Evans.

I'd personally say Georgia and Oklahoma have produced the strongest crop of artists.

A number of states that can claimed an artist as 1.Birth stste, 2.live there, 3.work place as a duel residence. California can claimed a number of artists like Gene Autry who made films and series in the state.
California, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee produced the more. We also do have Canadian and Australians made Nashville and Austin as home as well.

Kentucky have others as well. Yes, I am well aware that there are many more from Kentucky. Crystal Gayle, being Loretta Lynn's sister, was the only one I could think of off the top of my head. I am from North Carolina, so I knew several of them, but of course there are some I missed from there as well.

John Michael Montgomery, Montgomery Gentry, Dillon Carmichael and Walker Montgomery Walker is John's son, and is an up and coming singer. Dillon is John and Eddie's nephew.

I see that this thread has already devolved into just listing every single person who drove through California once on their way to a show...

Based on the list at the top, Texas and Oklahoma are both great. But based on my personal preference, I'd say Texas hands down as the best.

I see that this thread has already devolved into just listing every single person who drove through California once on their way to a show... Not really. A lot of artists acted in tv shows and all that had homes in the Hollywood area. Kenny Rogers would also be on this list. Most of the tv and movie westerns were made in California or Arizona. A lot of the artists that also acted in westerns were from the 20s to the 70s time period. After that time period, it dropped off. Many of the artists were singing cowboys that did both acting and singing. Dean Martin is one. Lets just say California is king of country artists who are from or lived in California. It means that they are either born or moved there which they could claim to be from there before going into country. Many states do claimed these artists are from there. Lets say I became a country singer? My birth state of Washington State can claimed me. But growing up? Idaho, Colorado, California, Arizona and Oklahoma all can claimed me including Washington is were I am from. Then I moved to Arkansas, and Arkansas can claimed me where I am from. That is why California can claimed all these artists who ever acted or who used to lived there at one time or another.

You are completely complicating the lines for what it means to be βfromβ a place though. To be *from* California does not mean you grew up in another state and then moved to California as an adult to film a show. By your logic we need to add every single country musician currently living in Nashville to the Tennessee list.

For a state to produce a famous person (in this thread's case, country singers), the famous person (country singer) has to have been born in that state. Faith Hill moved to California for a while to pursue acting. By your logic, she should've titled her song "California Girl" instead. She lives in Nashville now. Maybe she should've called it "Tennessee Girl." That's not how it works. California didn't produce anything having to do with Faith Hill, nor did Tennessee. That's Mississippi's doing, because she was born there.

Wherever they spent their formative years. Usually it's the same place, but there's always the possibility they were born in another state that they never actually lived in or left as an infant.

Right. I refer to Arizona as my home state even though I was born in Ohio. We moved to AZ when I was 5, and I left when I was 24. My parents still live there. Arizona is home.
