#19: RA The Rugged Man "Legendary Loser" Genre: Rap
RA drops as many as nostalgia references as the Beasties. This is a great mix of humor and inspiration.

#18: Easy Life "Earth" Genre: Pop
NME's Best New British Act. Album went top 10 on 4 UK charts. Song was a BBC 1 Radio "Hottest Record". They're on my list 4x. They should be much bigger here in the US.

#17: Dreamers & Grandson "Heat Seeker" Genre: Alt
"Internet killed the video star, taking selfies while she crashed in her new car" Best combination of an 80s reference ("Video Killed The Radio Star") With a 2K reference (people videoing themselves speeding while saying 'yolo', then crashing).

I hate hate hate the WHAM original. I love love love the AAF cover. Just as good as their cover of "Smooth Criminal"

#15: Middle Class Rut "Tax On Death" Genre: Rock
The band teased a short clip of this in 2019 and I loved it. But it was only available on a 12" vinyl from their website. In May 2020, it finally showed up in full on YouTube. Yes!

Solo release from the guy who contributed to two of Prodigy's best songs ("Firestarter" & "Breathe") And Pitchshifter's three best albums.

"Up against the wall", "hands full of blood", "let me outta my cage", "get outta my face" Straight up no-holds-barred confrontational heavy rock. Love it.

#12: 10 Years "The Shift" Genre: Metal
When the landscape around you changes slowly over time and one day you realize the nation is completely divided and fighting against itself. Sounds like 2020.

#33: Dark Sarah "All Ears!" I love this one. made it top 10 on my Metal music chart
#32: Corey Taylor "Black Eyes Blue" Great song. Another one I charted. It maybe an unpopular opinion ,but I'm loving "Samantha's Gone" even more.
#29: Eric Tessmer & Nancy Wilson "Policy of Truth" Not a bad cover song. Nancy sounds great. Def Leppard also did a decent cover of "Personal Jesus".
#16: Alien Ant Farm "Everything She Wants" I love the Wham version. This one was interesting.
#11: Pretty Reckless "Death By Rock And Roll" I love this song. One of my favorites of the year.

I'm loving "Samantha's Gone" even more. I've got it saved in my YouTube 'Watch Later' to listen to. Now I'm looking even more forward to checking it out!

#10: Crazy Town & Hyro The Hero "The Life I Chose" Genre: Metal
Yeah I know it's just a boisterous late-90s rap-metal throwback. But it jams.

#6: Jaden "Cabin Fever" Genre: Pop
The coming of age anthem of 2020. Probably the most modern-sounding pop song on my list. Frankly, I'm shocked this wasn't a massive pop hit Yet I didn't see it on anybody else's best-of-the-year lists.

#5: 1975 "If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)" Genre: Pop
Flirty, taboo and fun. One of the few songs on my list I've seen on several other people's lists too.

Not just a kickass industrial-metal 90s-throwback song but also feels contemporary and cutting-edge.

#2: Dinosaur Pile-Up "It's Tricky" Genre: Metal
They took a classic 80s rap song and remade it in their own style. And they created a fun-as-hell video to go with it (a la classic Beastie Boys!)

#1: Cleopatrick "Hometown" Genre: Metal
With Royal Blood disappointing me on "Trouble's Coming", this makes a perfect replacement to feed my craving for old-school-early-90s, slow-build heavy rock that explodes into angst and fury! A modern Helmet / Deftones / Quicksand.

#8: Social Animals "Something To Keep Me Awake" Nice powerpop sound. Reminds me of White Reaper.
#7: Steel Panther "f**k 2020" You and I are the only ones I know of on PULSE who chart this band. "Let's Get High Tonight" and "Always Gonna Be A Ho" are my Steel Panther gems for 2020. This particular song drops the F-Bomb one too many times, but I love the music, and would sing along to it if it ever showed up on the radio.

That wraps it up!
Thanks to anyone who cruised through the list. Bonus points if you clicked on a song you didn't know to see if you'd like it.
I clicked on a bunch of songs on other people's lists and found about a dozen I like, so thanks to everyone else for sharing.
See you in 2022!
