Sabrina Carpenter - she's still doing acting but it seems her music is the focus Damn, you beat me to it lol. I'd argue that her acting seems more the focus this year, between being in three major movies (The Short History of the Long Road, Work It, and Clouds), with only two official singles (one of them written for the movie).

Reba McEntire. During the six season run of her sitcom, she also had multiple country radio hits.

Jennifer Lopez comes to mind. She wasn't particularly good at either acting or singing, but she managed to have a big career in both. the audacity of this comment in a post-Hustlers world

Does Awkwafina count? Her rap career never took off but her acting has. She's been in both commercially successful movies and got critical praise for The Farewell

Has the title always said "successfusinging" and my mind just autocorrected it or did it accidentally get edited?

I was just reading this thread for the first time and was surprised it took so long for someone to mention Dolly. She wasn’t in a ton of films but she’s been in some really big ones and was very well received - 9 to 5, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Steel Magnolias come to mind.

Andra Day just got a Best Actress nom at the Golden Globes for her portrayal of Billie Holiday Other than "Rise Up" has she done anything in music? Her wiki page lists mostly collabs and one-offs since then but she’s also a songwriter so who knows how much she’s written that hasn’t been recorded/released yet.

Britney Spears should have made this list, but Crossroads negatively impacted the talent pool so much that it's understandable why she didn't. Virtually every A list actress was finding themself second to Spears for any given role after Britney's critically acclaimed performance. The only reason she and Kate Hudson are friends is because Kate was one of the few who didn't chase her out of the industry and actually respected her for her talents. This made me chuckle. I’m sure Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock were shaking in their boots after watching ‘Crossroads’ because Britney was coming to steal their roles. 😂 Anyway you could’ve just said Britney Spears and left it at that without including the alternative fan fiction scenario. She technically did start as an actress on a Disney show, just like Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. I’d say all 3 are considered Music/TV/Movie hybrids.

The topic post mentions people who were able to "balance" a career in both. Having a role on a teen show when you're young and then not doing much else after that while concentrating on music is not really "balancing" the two.

Jennifer Lopez is the only one mentioned here who I wouldn’t know if I’d call her an actress or singer first. Everyone else has a clear categorization in one, but dabs on the other side here and there. Cher and Brandy have done plenty of acting, for example. But they will always be regarded as singers first. Jennifer Lopez however isn’t relevant as a singer anymore. But yet I wouldn’t categorize her as an actress first. She is earning a great reputation with touring/residencies/live shows in recent years. It’s just a really unique case of a star who can dazzle in all areas consistently without needing to shut one off. She has enough hits under her belt to never do music but still be a live show performer if she wanted to.

Reba McEntire. During the six season run of her sitcom, she also had multiple country radio hits. She's also in the terrific Tremors from the early 90s, and of course had a successful Broadway stint just before her sitcom.

So I would say maybe only Justin Timberlake can still qualify here. Christina had Burlesque and a stint on Nashville and few other projects, but singer will always be the first association.

I don't know her but I've been told to call her a actress since she can act and acted her way into a singing career

Thought of a few more that haven't been mentioned: Sabrina Carpenter - she's still doing acting but it seems her music is the focus they said successful
