23. The 1975 - If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know) - 5408 points
"There's something 'bout her stare that makes you nervous and you say things that you don't mean" Peak: #12 (1 week) | Weeks on: 28 Debut Date: 5.9.2020 | Peak Date: 7.4.2020
Well after so long, The 1975 finally dropped the best song in their whole career. It's a breath of fresh air and a nice comeback after their 80s impersonation stuff -- which I still like a lot -- with the engaging instrumentations and melodic structure. The lyrics are very... British which is on-brand for them, and they're cool.

22. The Weeknd - Blinding Lights - 5422 points
"You can turn me on with just a touch" Peak: #6 (1 week) | Weeks on: 23 [overall: 25] Debut Date: 12.21.2019 | Peak Date: 3.7.2020
Everyone's favorite mega hit of the year and a clear frontrunner on year-end lists season. And it deserves every praise it got.

21. Charly Bliss - Capacity - 5760 points"Sever every microscopic atom of connection to "I can barely keep myself afloat when I'm not saving you""Peak: #4 (1 week) | Weeks on: 24 Debut Date: 1.18.2020 | Peak Date: 4.11.2020 This random indie band's song doesn't have to hit this hard, but it does. Willow Rinadoobee Breakfast sent this for last year's Wintertime Madness tournament and it's a definite yes for me. 2020 chart run: 38-34-33-30-29-23-13-11-8-6-5-5-4-4-6-7-9-13-16-17-21-27-31-34-off.

#20-11 revealed below: 20. Caroline Polachek - So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings - 5898 points"Don't send me photos, you're making it worse cause you're so hot it's hurting my feeling"Peak: #2 (2 weeks) | Weeks on: 22 Debut Date: 1.25.2020 | Peak Date: 4.18.2020 I didn't know who Caroline Polachek is but the moment I heard this song for the first time, I knew she must be someone to set my eyes on. The breezy and soft tone of the song, completed with the strong melody throughout the song, is what makes this song as good as it is. 2020 chart run: 39-35-33-31-30-14-12-9-7-6-4-3-2-2-3-6-8-10-13-18-34-37-off.

"I'ma love you like a fool, breathe you in til I hallucinate" Peak: #1 (2 weeks) | Weeks on: 16 Debut Date: 7.18.2020 | Peak Date: 8.29.2020
Dua really just delivered bop after bops this era. This song is her third number one she received in this year alone.

"It's funny when the warning signs can feel like they're butterflies" Peak: #1 (3 weeks) | Weeks on: 16 [overall: 29] Debut Date: 10.5.2019 | Peak Date: 1.4.2020
I'm actually surprised this finished in the top 20 this year because I already forgot it topped my chart early in the year, lmao. Yeah she's definitely grown as an artist and this song is a step in the right direction.

17. Doja Cat - Boss Bitch - 6182 points
"Don't need a report, don't need a press run, all of my bad pics been all my best ones" Peak: #4 (1 week) | Weeks on: 26 Debut Date: 6.13.2020 | Peak Date: 8.22.2020
I don't watch movies, so I never actually related to the movie this song was from but damn, this is a banger. Doja's performance is full on fire and the production is just hot. I would say this song is too short, but I actually think the length is perfect as it is. I feel like the baddest bitch whenever I listen to this.

"I'm glad you put your poison in my cup" Peak: #1 (1 week) | Weeks on: 22 Debut Date: 5.16.2020 | Peak Date: 8.8.2020
This is my favorite SG Lewis song so far. It's just so groovy from beginning to end. The fluffy and dreamy production makes me feel like I'm transcended to the clouds.

15. Margo Price - Letting Me Down - 6562 points
"Borrowed money that you never paid back and left a hole in this town" Peak: #3 (1 week) | Weeks on: 26 Debut Date: 6.20.2020 | Peak Date: 9.12.2020
Margo's new album might be a downgrade if compared to her first two but at least she still blessed us with this single. Lyrics are definite standout and the whole vibe it offers me from the instrumentations and songwriting is just great for an early evening listen.

14. Ellie Goulding - Power - 6844 points
"Everything in your world just feels like plastic" Peak: #2 (1 week) | Weeks on: 23 Debut Date: 7.25.2020 | Peak Date: 9.12.2020
Every single Ellie's released since "close to me" (including CTM itself) has been very very disappointing …until this one. And of fucking COURSE, this was the one that didn't chart. The production, especially the booming bass in the song's hook, is simply amazing, and the old Ellie returns. She has completely redeemed herself for me with this song.

The highest of the 2019 leftovers and it's the obvious one. I still think this is the best track from the album and it's the one that took the longest time for me to get tired of. A bop.

"And he tells his friends he want me, boy, you know I'm tempted" Peak: #1 (2 weeks) | Weeks on: 20 Debut Date: 4.18.2020 | Peak Date: 5.2.2020
I love Slayyyter's music in general, and this is my favorite song of hers. Channeling the early 00s dance pop girly, but make it even sexier.

11. Rina Sawayama - Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys) - 7930 points
"Excuse my ego, can't go incognito" Peak: #3 (2 weeks) | Weeks on: 28 Debut Date: 3.14.2020 | Peak Date: 5.30.2020
Ugh, this is an unpopular opinion I guess, but this deserves to be the Rina song that received all the attention over "xs". But then again, I'm just a sucker for heavy bassline and synths so I might be biased there lol. This song is just amazing. It's like the closest thing from the album to match the excellence of her EP.

What in the pop excellence was that 20-19-18 sequence? PS: I see a "How Do You Sleep?" lyric on the "Graveyard" post.

9. The Sam Fender songs I've heard before are all pretty good but just lack the replayable quality. This, though, is his first song I can spin on daily. It has the right amount of catchy and bombastic-ness. Thanks MoD for sending this to WTM. 2020 chart run: …-34-31-25-23-20-16-12-8-6-3-2-1-1-2-2-3-3-6-8-11-14-20-25-32-off.

Yeah I don't think I can ever shut up about this Jessie Ware era. This song is just soooo good. And sexy. I had often imagined I was dirty dancing with some guy as I listened to this song.

"You dry my tears and make it pour" Peak: #1 (4 weeks) | Weeks on: 27 Debut Date: 1.11.2020 | Peak Date: 4.4.2020

The single most emotional track of the year. Nothing even comes close to match the emotional rollercoaster this song is offering us. It begins as a small, almost lullaby-ish, soft song, with Phoebe singing every words carefully. Then it progresses to give a more hopeful feeling that quickly turns dark and ethereal, which leads to the bone-chilling and satisfying ending. This is art.

4. Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now - 10510 points
"Aren't you the guy who tried to hurt me with the word "goodbye"?" Peak: #1 (5 weeks) | Weeks on: 28 [overall: 34] Debut Date: 11.23.2019 | Peak Date: 2.1.2020
This song defines 2020 pop music. I mean, it literally started the disco revival trend which brings us so many shameless bops this year. The production in this is simply killer. I'm predicting in a few years, we'll have a nickname describing this style of pop music. Pandemic pop? Lockdown pop? I don't know, but we'll always remember this song as the one that started it all.

3. Charli XCX - forever - 10708 points
"I'll love you forever even when we're not together" Peak: #2 (7 weeks) | Weeks on: 32 Debut Date: 5.2.2020 | Peak Date: 6.27.2020
If disco revival shines in the mainstream scene, bubblegum bass also shines in the underground pop music scene. The difference is the latter has been a trend for a few years already. Charli's latest album is truly special though, because it was released during the first stage of lockdown, and she blessed us with a record that captured a feeling of isolation and our yearning to be in touch with people we love. That's what "forever" is for me. The bombastic production doesn't detract, but instead elevates that feeling even more. Sadly, this song's unusual progression also scared some people away. But no matter what your opinion is to the song, I will always love it.
This song also suffers from bad timing to chart because it kept getting cockblocked from the top spot by one particular song.

2. Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? - 10840 points
"Who can deny this perfect symmetry?" Peak: #1 (6 weeks) | Weeks on: 21 Debut Date: 8.8.2020 | Peak Date: 9.5.2020
I wasn't fully sure what to expect when this album dropped. I mean, I knew I love "Spotlight" a lot but what I experienced upon listening to the album far succeeded my expectations. "Spotlight" is so slick and smooth and catchy, and somehow it ended up bottom half on the album for me. The whole record is just amazing. And among the best of the highlights is the title track, "What's Your Pleasure?". I was hypnotized from the first moment I heard the synth intro. My heart beat fast with excitement. Jessie's sultry vocals and the astonishing production fit like a glove. Listening to this song is basically giving me serotonin boost. And God do I wish to feel that boost over and over again.

1. Perfume Genius - On The Floor - 13840 points
"The violent current of energy, I hide it away and underneath" Peak: #1 (8 weeks) | Weeks on: 31 Debut Date: 5.16.2020 | Peak Date: 6.20.2020
Anyone who has interacted with me enough, either on discord or the forum, must know how much respect and appreciation I have for Mike Hadreas aka the Perfume Genius. I've always enjoyed how he tells his life story through his music. As a fellow gay man, they are very relatable to me, and his music literally changes the way I view the world and myself. Moving to this song, "On The Floor" might be his best one yet. The gorgeous instrumentations are giving me a dreamy and heartwarming vibe. The vocal performance is immaculate. Couple that with the beautiful melody and sweet lyrics about one's admiration towards their lover, and the result is my top song of the year. I wish I was intelligent enough to write more about how much I love this song. To conclude it shortly, I'm grateful this song exists.
