It annoys me that she's a line up for less successful artists like MCR, Paramore or Foo Fighters. Pretty sure she's bigger than three of them combined.

All three of those acts can sell out arenas in the US while Avril’s last tour was in 2-3k cap venues. They’re bigger live draws, period.

She’s been marketed to Pop for 95% of her career, and while everyone knows her name, they haven’t exactly done a great job at carving out a loyal fandom. She’s a guilty pleasure for most of the people attending, or they don’t like her altogether.

Does she even know she's in the line up? Several acts had no idea their names were being included.

The announcement was super shady, apparently several of the acts had no idea that their names were being included, and the date actually conflicts with some of their tours. There was always controversy over the tickets being nonrefundable for any reason, including cancellation, that made it seem not totally on the up and up.

You can’t just include a band and hope they show up lmao.

All i know is that they are more apealling to rock audience while Avril had more mainstream success during her peak. Didn't know artist like MCR can tour that well. I guess i'm new to the genre.

Bravo! I'm okay with the fact that sometimes i was wrong. There's nothing to be ashamed to admit it. Artists like MCR or Foo Fighters are huge to rock audience but i don't think they are mainstream artists so i didn't know they can sell out their tour like that.

Still floored watching BM video - it's like time stopped for her - even more amazing considering what she's been through.
Anyone else surprised that LIWYHM has cracked Top 40 at both Pop/HAC?

Lol Avril is almost forgotten by a lot of people. Just that rock artists are more appealing to touring. Artists like Christina or Alicia Keys couldn't pull a arena tour either. And they are not forgotten. Besies, Avril can still tour arena in Europe and Asia. Stop bringing her down.

I feel like Avril was bigger than MCR and Paramore for sure. Foo Fighters were really big though and Dave Grohl has established himself as a legendary musician, so they definitely have a leg up.
But yea, selling out tours doesn't necessarily mean anything. Aretha couldn't fill an arena but she's still the queen of soul.

The demo of Bois Lie leaked.
It’s probably the most 2008ish revival song we’ve heard from her yet. It’s good. It’s similar to Grow with Willow. Obviously haven’t heard the album yet, but it’s formulated for Alt-radio nostalgia supreme.
It’s funny, because during her commercial peak, she was arguably a lot more “alternative” than anything she’s put out this era, but she says this is her most Alt record “front to back”.
Bite Me is the best of the lot so far, but I’m holding out for a 2022 “I Don’t Have To Try” or “Everything Back But You”.

She had some punk songs during her peaks but most of her discography were pop/rock, which lean more to pop than rock. (Complicated, I'm With You, most Let Go's songs, GF, etc). I think UMS were most rock album she has ever put out at this point. Oh and btw, Grow is shallow imo and I've heard Bois Lie, it sounds like a something Willow would sing. Feel like she couldn't pull a more mature song like her first 2 albums anymore

Anyway, if people here use the logic that an act is bigger than the other act because they sell out the whole stadium while others can't, i think Foo Fighters is even bigger than someone like Rihanna whose tour is never that successful. It's not that Paramore and MCR is bigger than Avril, just that touring work in fav for rock act and most top-tier act whose career peaked from 2000-2009 can't pull a stadium tour. The Best Damn Tour was pretty huge for a pop artist during her time tho. That's just how things work. In general, Avril was a mainstream artist, top-level act during her peak, she was pretty much in the same leagues with other A-listers like Christina or Alicia whose career debuted around her time. I don't think MCR has ever been a mainstream act although they might be successful as a rock band (which i don't follow that genre alot).

I'm really enjoying "Bois Lie", wish it was a longer song, hope they send that to Alternative at some point. "All I Wanted" is also pretty good.

Listened to clips and am excited to purchase and bop. When it was a thing, pop punk was never my thing, outside of a few critically acclaimed albums (Black Parade, Infinity on High, etc.) but I have always had a soft spot for Avril. While I wish there were more ballads because I feel those are actually the strongest part of her catalog, I get why she chose this path instead. #1 on iTunes. Hope the resurgence in this style helps her!

I listened to it last night and I’d say while it’s not really what I wanted from her, I do think it’s her most focused album and she does pull this sound off much better than she has before with the obligatory pop-punk songs that were added to her albums before. The closest she came to doing it as well as she does here (that I heard, because I never listened to TBDT) is probably He Wasn’t.

You can hear the Blink-182 and Goldfinger influence all over this. Love the consistent upbeat energy throughout. Apart from the singles, standouts to me are "Bois Lie," "Love Sux," and "Déjà vu."

Na na na; not another breakup
I’m in love.
Avalanche is clearly about her continued battle with Lyme.
I’d say this is her second best album. She dove all in.

I can't believe how solid this album is, I am impressed! I think a lot of the songs kinda bleed into each other, but they are all catchy as hell.
"Avalanche" is the standout for me. The pronunciation KILLS me though lmao.
I would have ended with "Dare To Love Me" and scrapped BOAH (it is so manic and out of place being last).
I've never willingly listened to a Machine Gun Kelly song on my own before and that trend will certainly continue. I thought he was absolutely dreadful on "Bois Lie." He sounded like he was half asleep for his parts.
Overall I'd probably give this a 7.5/8 out of 10. Great pop punk record!

I get why that Night Of The Living Dead looking thing was asked to be on the album (smart move by Avril and/or her team) but yeah...if not for Avril, I would have never been exposed and was totally fine with that. I will always side-eye the pop-punk community for embracing his fraudulent ass after his rap career was killed by Eminem, but...on my way to pick the CD up and excited!

This album is fucking RELENTLESS. It goes IN and IN and IN and drums, drums, drums. If THIS is the album she’s always wanted to make, it’s a wonder she’s still making music after releasing what she has over the past 15 years?
This is the most Avril album of Avril’s career. There’s no other way to describe. Nobody does it like the girl from the 5,000 population town in Canada - singing with such apathy, disgust and yet empathy for the marshmallow roasting on her stick.

Edit: Tweaked the order from best to least below, but there literally is not a bad song on this album. There are just some I am obsessed with over others.
OK, Travis Barker did right by Avril. You can tell he really respects her. The production is so perfect on this album. I don't know if I have ever heard him beat those drums up THAT hard on any of his other work.
That said, this definitely is a pop-punk mixtape. The songs blend into each other, but I feel like it was on purpose. What a seamless album, but the songs have their own individuality. Hooks for days, too. Her voice sounds...different, though? Like it has been processed to death. I feel like her voice was not this high on her last couple albums. Anyway, the brevity and cohesion really works in its favor. There is not a song that I would skip if it came on and I would probably sing along to every one of them. I am extremely impressed and I think, if they play their cards right, a few of these songs could really stick. I give it a solid A-.
Dare To Love Me (Yes, ballad queen! Plus, Travis still finds a way to beat it up, LOL. Excellent song.) Avalanche (SINGLE please. Not only is it highly relatable, but her iconic pronunciation of the word will inspire other people to sound more sophisticated.) Love Sux Love It When You Hate Me (Somewhere, L.A. Reid is smiling. This sounds like an undeniable smash, especially with the pop-punk resurgence. But...stranger things have happened.) Deja Vu (the vocals are WAY too processed and shrill on this one, but damn Travis, f**k. IT. UP. It'a also hella catchy.) All I Wanted (This really made me smile. A beautiful pop-punk duet. I don't know if I have ever heard one before, but two legends, I stan.) Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending (The bridge takes this song to another level. WOW. It legit increased the ranking and then from then on out, I was in heaven.) Bite Me F.U. Bois Lie Break Of A Heartache Cannonball

But, maybe you were making a jab and know about some drama, idk. LOL I am still giddy after that album. It brought me out of one of my deepest funks ever and I was listening to Beach House Disc 2, which let me wallow, but I decided to put on Love Sux and it made me so happy even though the lyrics weren't.
