So I'm just curious if any one has any information. I know R&B and soul vocal groups were a big thing in the 60s and 70s with acts like The Temptations, The Supremes, The Miracles, The Marvelettes and others. R&B shifted for a bit, many members went off to be successful solo artists, as funk and disco acts became the new trend until it died in the early 80s. Then there was a resurgence of them in the 90s with groups like Boyz II Men, TLC, Destiny's Child, En Vogue, Blackstreet, and so many others. But at the start of the millennium, they faded again.
Nowadays, R&B groups as they existed before are almost non-existent. The only one I can think of that is reminiscent of that era Chloe x Halle. Alternative R&B acts like Hiatus Kaiyote or The Internet the function more as bands and less as R&B groups with multiple singers.
But I am curious as a Gen Z who didn't grow up on these acts: what happened to these acts and do you think these multi-singer soul or R&B groups can make a comeback again or have we moved passed it?
