28. Phoebe Bridgers - KyotoPoints: 745.9 Currently Charting (or it was in January)Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-09-25 Chart Run: 35-10-1-2-2-3-5-7-10-13-16-19-23-26-... This was an unexpected chart-topper, as "Kyoto" is more... subdued in comparison to the usual bops and bangers with dominant beats that hit #1. The song establishes a bittersweet mood pretty clearly. The lyrics describe how Phoebe's life isn't perfect, and the verses have an anxious rhythm. But the horns transform the vibe into something more uplifting. Like, despite everything, Phoebe continues to move forward with life. The chorus hook also leaps out effectively (ie. "I DON'T FORGIVE YOU").

27. Martin Jensen / Alle Farben / Nico Santos - Running Back To YouPoints: 749.8 Currently Charting (or it was in January)Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-10-16 Chart Run: 38-3-1-2-3-3-4-6-9-9-11-... This was one of the catchiest dance songs released in 2020, and I don't understand how it did next to nothing in European charts. Germany especially. Also justice for me not charting "Solo Dance" back in 2016. It's grown on me a lot since then.

26. The Roop - On FirePoints: 752.3 Peak: 2 Debuted: 2020-05-08 Chart Run: 36-14-5-2-2-3-4-7-10-13-16-19-23-27-30-34-39 This is the highest ranked Eurovision entry on my 2020 year-end chart. "On Fire" and "Think About Things" were my clear favourites from last year. Both entries contained endearing quirkiness (especially during the national final performances), and both songs had a unique style. "On Fire" is an alluring song, and I love the "squealing" instrumental breaks.

25. Zhu / Tinashe - OnlyPoints: 763.0 Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-06-05 Chart Run: 32-16-6-4-1-2-4-6-8-11-14-17-22-25-29-34 "Faded" painted a very clear image of an inebriated night out, and "Only" establishes a similar atmosphere. Tinashe, meanwhile, supplies a catchy hook, so it's a winning formula.

Ok I'm just going to finish this with condensed to zero commentary cuz it's been 6 months... 24. SAINt JHN - Roses [Imanbek Remix]Points: 763.4 Lifetime Points: 776.9 (enough to be #22 for 2020) Peak: 2 Debuted: 2019-12-27 Chart Run: (35)-3-2-2-4-5-6-8-10-12-17-20-23-27-30-35-39 The last of the 2019 holdovers. This song lead the recent slap house movement. This trend burned on me super quickly, but there's something about the dominating bassline in Roses that is super addictive.

23. Sam Smith - DiamondsPoints: 767.9 Currently Charting (or it was in January)Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-09-25 Chart Run: 34-20-9-1-1-2-4-5-7-9-12-15-19-22-... Shellback sure knows how to make a polished-sounding pop bop..... This is Sam's second #1 on my chart following "Promises" with Calvin Harris. "Diamonds" and "Dancing With A Stranger" are far and away my favourite songs from Sam as a lead artist.

22. Ellie Goulding - PowerPoints: 772.1 Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-05-29 Chart Run: 29-1-1-2-2-4-6-9-13-16-20-23-26-30-34-37 This was Ellie's first #1 since "Outside". My favourite songs on Delirium were the non-singles; "Love Me Like You Do" aside. And then everything she released after that was so sonically jarring and outside her usual style... until this song came along. The chorus on "Power" has this sort of bellowing sing-along vibe that works well.

21. Troye Sivan - EasyPoints: 778.3 Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-07-24 Chart Run: 29-18-2-1-1-3-5-6-9-12-15-19-23-27-31-35 The original not the remix Troye's songs just feel so personable. It's easy for the emotion to resonate with me. The texture of the production work and the distorted auto-tune helped this song stand out.

“Kyoto” and “Easy” are easily two of the best songs of 2020. Glad to see them here!
And of course, “Blinding Lights” is the definitive hit of the year.

The Killers - CautionPoints: 1095.6 Peak: 1 Debuted: 2020-04-17 Chart Run: 34-12-4-1-1-1-1-3-4-5-8-9-11-13-16-20-23-26-30-34-39 Troye has more points with my formula to be my #1 song of 2020, but heart and my gut are choosing this instead. The ultimate driving song. The uplifting, freeing atmosphere I needed during the pandemic which made me feel very confined and hopeless. And that's it, after a YEAR, my 2020 year-end is done. Stay tuned for my 2021 list coming soon, and will hopefully be done quicker 😂
