I feel like Phoenix could cover this song (or did Twenty One Pilots cover Phoenix?) Just kidding. This is solid. I echo AI's sentiment that it doesn't hit you over the top with whiny vocals. I wish these huge bands would incorporate more guitars (even occasional screaming vocals) into *some* of their songs...just for my own personal taste, mostly (and the necessary versatility of sound). There actually are guitars in this one - but they're buried in the mix, the bass and synths are raised significantly higher. Listen closely and you'll make them out, the guitars add melodic accents to the song. (I wonder if TOP will have to hire a touring guitarist when concerts start up again...)

Omg. How did I not know they had new material out?
Listening now...not my favourite single of their, but it ain’t bad. I’ll definitely listen to it more on my road trip today.
Can I just have Tyler for one night? 😋

Song is very safe, I'd say the worst of any of their debut singles from new work. It's not bad, it's not memorable. It gives me vibes of when it was a trend to release a teaser for a few weeks before something bigger, or in all reality, a third single from most albums.

This was added to Cool New Music for AAA late last week. AAA will be a week or two behind ALT on this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go #1 on AAA. It has the right sound. If the highest they got to was top 30 (on Mediabase), I highly doubt this goes #1. The best case scenario imo is a "Leave Me Alone"-like run. KCMP, WFUV and WXPN will all block this, most likely KKXT as well. Especially tougher on Billboard, because whether you like it or not, they have many non commercials, and most (some will probably add this, such as WAPS, which already added this) will probably block this as well based on the artist involved, similar to "Everything I Wanted" by Billie Eilish, which would've done much better if someone other than her made it. ("Therefore I Am", on the other hand, does not fit the format. Straight up electropop.) "Level of Concern" only made the top 40 (though bear in mind, unlike this song, the adds were more scattered for that song), so a good bar to clear would be top 20 for this. Most of the panel, even on Mediabase, isn't like KINK's mix of alt/HAC currents, and even those that lean more alt/HAC have added several AAA exclusives.

So, save for music eliteism, this song **should be** #1 on AAA. I come from the programming world that says "play what they want" not the "if they're a smash, they suck." Fair enough. But it should be noted that different stations cater to different audiences, and you probably know this by now since you are in the radio industry. From what I know, several noncommercials go by a "new music discovery" mantra and focus on indie and Americana so by that, it would be jarring to hear an Imagine Dragons or twenty one pilots song in between LCD Soundsystem and Arlo Parks as they could be seen as too poppy, which is why several avoided Wallows and Dayglow. (Or in the case of the latter, play different singles instead such as "Something" on WERS) That is unless the songs fit their sound, which is why several noncommercials are playing "Leave the Door Open" by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak - literally the biggest song in the country right now, since it fits with their sound by being a soul track, which we see Leon Bridges and Black Pumas obtain success. On the other hand, some markets don't have a recognized alternative station, which is why WXRV Boston and WWCT Peoria are very alternative leaning, and at least the former is doing well. As much as I bash on KINK's alt/AC-leaning notion (Portland already has an alternative station but that's a clone of WNYL due to the Audacy synchronization), they are doing well, so they're doing what they feel is best for their audiences. Some noncommercials (and other stations) such as WAPS have always combined both the indie and mainstream stuff, and they're sticking to that based on their adds this week. Then again KCSN added "Survivin'" so anything could still happen. We just have to wait and see.

It’ll take the rock slot at most CHR’s - icing Imagine Dragons. Straight to the Top 20 quickly. CHR has a major rap/dance-hop problem and bands like this are part of the solution.

Something will undoubtedly connect at some point & this seems like the right choice.
