The Weeknd: Of course, having the biggest song of the year not just in the US but around the world with Blinding Lights means you had a good year but Abel had more than Blinding Lights to lean on, since After Hours went on to be his biggest album to date and most critically acclaimed project since Trilogy.
Roddy Ricch: Though while Abel had the biggest song of the year, Roddy spent the most weeks on top with a cumulative 19 weeks atop the Hot 100, mostly thanks to The Box famous blocking Yummy from the top. His debut, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, also went on to be one of the biggest hip-hop releases this year after it's late release in December of 2019 - and being on other hits like Walk Em Down, High Fashion, and others helped.
DaBaby: Despite lackluster albums, DaBaby has had a fantastic year in retrospect. Not only did ROCKSTAR go on to become a worldwide smash, his omnipresence on features such as WHATS POPPIN, My Oh My, and the previously mentioned Levitating shows his crossover potential
Dua Lipa: Future Nostalgia wouldn't do down as one of the most critically acclaimed pop albums of the last 5 years if Miss Lipa didn't also have the hits as well. And with Physical, Break My Heart, Levitating, and of course Don't Start Now, she could be the face of pop music of the first half of the 2020s if she keeps up the momentum.
Megan Thee Stallion: Though if you want another woman who had an amazing year, look at Megan. Not just releasing her debut album, Good News, she had two number one hits this year with the Savage Remix and of course creating all the buzz in the world by teaming with Cardi B on WAP
Harry Styles: Harry Styles quietly crept on this year and established himself as the true breakout star from One Direction. Not only was Fine Line critically and commercially successful, he also had success with Adore You and Watermelon Sugar, the latter being one of the most streamed songs of the year
Luke Combs: Country came back in a big way and while artists like Gabby Barrett and Maren Morris were successful, it was two MVP's that made the most noise this year. The first was Luke Combs as What You See Is What You Get went on to be the biggest country album of the year, and spawning hits like Lovin' On You, Does to Me, Forever After All, Even Though I'm Leaving and Forever After All, the latter of which very nearly made history as the first country song to debut atop the Hot 100
Morgan Wallen: And as for the other country MVP of 2020, while Morgan had success with More Than My Hometown and Chasin' You, it was the success of 7 Summers being able to debut in the Top 10 that showed country could have a future in the streaming age, it wouldn't have to rely solely on radio anymore
Juice WRLD: After tragically passing away in December of 2019, his handlers were respectful in honoring with successful hits like the Suicidal Remix, Bandit, and Godzilla. All culminating in Legends Never Die - giving Juice 5 Top 10 song in the Top 10 at the same time: with Wishing Well and Come & Go, becoming respectable hits
Pop Smoke: And speaking of posthumous success, despite being tragically killed earlier this year, death didn't stop Pop Smoke from having one of the best debut years for a rapper in recent memory. Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon exploded into the mainstream thought with five hit songs as of now, Dior, Mood Swings, The Woo, For the Night, What You Know Bout Love, and For the Night. That's five hit songs off of one album, unheard off especially in trap.
Lil Baby: We can't talk about hip-hop without mentioning Lil Baby. With My Turn becoming the biggest album of 2020 in the U.S., Lil Baby has been very busy through 2020 with hits like Sum 2 Prove, Emotionally Scarred, The Bigger Picture, We Paid, and Woah
Ariana Grande: Miss Grande has been Stuck with U, Rain on Me, and positions - both the single and the album
Taylor Swift: Taylor Swift shook up the music industry with her two surprise albums: evermore and folklore which aside from giving her two number ones in cardigan and willow, have gone on to be her most critically acclaimed projects to date.
BTS: It wasn't just English artists who were huge in 2020 as BTS penetrated the cultural zeitgeist even further with projects like Map of the Soul: 7 and Be - and making history by becoming the first korean act to debut atop the Hot 100 with Dynamite which would go on to be the best selling single of the year. And making more history with two more number one singles in the Savage Love Remix and Life Goes On, the latter being the first Korean song to top the charts.
Bad Bunny: Speaking of international stars, Bad Bunny broke through this year with YHLQMDLG, also breaking records as the biggest reggaeton album to date. And he'd have continued success as he released El Último Tour del Mundo a few months later, which garnered his biggest hit to date in DÁKITI
