Like a Prayer is Madonna's most well known song and her biggest hit is Take a Bow, #1 on the Hot 100 for 7 weeks. It depends how you define biggest hit. "TAB" has her most weeks at #1, but on the weighted all time charts "Like A Virgin" is Madonna's biggest hit, followed by "Vogue."

Solo work only: Stevie Nicks' biggest hit is Talk to Me, while I assume most would consider her most well known song is Edge of Seventeen. I'd consider "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" as her biggest solo hit; technically it's perhaps not solo as it's a collaboration with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but it does come from her solo album "Bella Donna", as does "Edge of Seventeen". (I define solo Stevie as anything outside Fleetwood Mac.) Yep. You’re right, it is. I meant solo as in just Stevie, no Fleetwood Mac/collaborations.

You can usually tell an older artist signature song by just looking at the spotify/youtube numbers.

Stand Back isn't bigger than Talk to Me, nor is it more well known than Edge of Seventeen (and it's also not as well known or bigger than Stop Draggin' My Heart Around), but yes, hi Stand Back.

Quad City DJ's - they had a top 5 hit with C'Mon Ride This Train but their most well known is the Space Jam theme H.E.R. - I think I can confidentially say neither Damage nor Slide are as well known as Best Part Lady Gaga - You can make an argument for Bad Romance being more well known and iconic than any of her number one singles

Most well known to me - gets a different answer because I know all the songs. Since Stevie Nicks is an older artist you could ask people who have only heard of 'Dreams' because of the viral video for instance
Different answer depending on who you ask
So what is the criteria for 'most well known'?

For me, it's the first song most people would think of when you think of a specific artist. For example, if you know BTS you would most likely know Dynamite

The teenage market (primary consumers of music will give a different answer than someone familiar with older music). I mentioned Dreams as that is the most recent output containing a Stevie Nicks vocal aside from the Miley Cyrus remix. Recent work tends to tie into 'most well known' I think But it also depends on the criteria that you frame the statement 'most well known' which is why I asked you how you define it.

Example, Jpurney's most well known song is Dont Stop Believing but its not their biggest hit, Open Arms their biggest hit peaked at #2 on the Hot 100. Don't Stop Believing peaked at #9 on the Hot 100.

has anyone mentioned fort minor? remember the name is still very well known despite peaking in the 70s -- meanwhile, where'd you go was a bonafide top 10 hit with virtually no recurrent play

Surprised no one's brought up Talking Heads. Burning Down the House isn't their most well known song

Lana Del Rey is another interesting example. According to Billboard, her biggest hit is the Cedric Gervais remix of "Summertime Sadness", but most probably associate her either with the original version (which never charted), or with "Video Games" (#91 peak).

Just Give Me a Reason is definitely P!nks biggest hit, but she’s bad so many, that I’m sure everyone would answer this differently.
I dont disagree with GTPS being her most well known, but up there. I’d say that along with So What and Just Give Me Reason are both biggest and most recognizable. JGMAR is her biggest hit chart wise and globally, it’s still racking up streams on YouTube and Spotify. And it did tremendously for her album.
JGMAR So What Get The Party Started Raise Your Glass
What About Us Try Just Like Fire Who Knew Just Like a Pill Most Girls
Her least recognizable would be a good question. :)

Sir Elton John's biggest hit is the 14-week No.1 double A side single "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight" but his signature song is "Your Song" which spent four weeks at its No.8 peak position in 1971 and has been covered by many artists. I would say that Bennie and the Jets is Elton John's most well known song.

Tiny Dancer, Philadelphia Freedom, Don’t Go Breaking my Heart, and Crocodile Rock beg to differ.

Might as well add this:
Monsters is now All Time Low's most successful song on the charts I don't think it's going compete with Dear Maria Count Me In in terms of being iconic

Big & Rich - Nobody remembers "Lost in this Moment", their actual biggest hit. Their best known song by a mile is "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)". Papa Roach - Their only top 40 hit is "Scars", which is not as well-known as "Last Resort". Breaking Benjamin - "I Will Not Bow" isn't forgotten but it's certainly not as known as "The Diary of Jane". Fastball - "The Way" couldn't chart because it was album-only, so "Out of My Head" was technically their only hit. Lenny Kravitz - "It Ain't Over Till It's Over" is not as iconic as "Are You Gonna Go My Way", which never made the top 40. Creed - "With Arms Wide Open" I don't think is quite as known as "Higher" is. Metallica - "Until It Sleeps" was their only top 10, even though their best known song is probably "Enter Sandman". AC/DC - "Moneytalks" was their biggest top 40 hit. Never heard of it before, have you? Train - This is debatable, but I don't think "Hey Soul Sister" has made quite the lasting impression "Drops of Jupiter" has.

Probably Cyndi Lauper, I feel like Girls Just Want to Have Fun is her most well known hit even though Time After Time and True Colors both went to 1.
