Especially since the album has leaked. It's weird.
I do think another single with the album release is warranted. This is doing great but there's plenty of room for another song to do it's thing, especially since MONTERO is looking like it's gonna leave top 10.

When did this happen and what is the verdict. But yes I totally agree…another single next month still gives “Industry Baby” plenty of time to grow on radio. Just because a music video drops with an album it doesn’t mean it’s an automatic push as the next single. It’s more just about maximizing on momentum and hype. Doja Cat technically dropped “Need to Know” along with the album roll out and no one thought it was going to be the next single at the time. But look at it now,

This is doing great but there's plenty of room for another song to do it's thing, especially since MONTERO is looking like it's gonna leave top 10. This is the distinction I was trying to make. With the album release is different from weeks before the album release. I don’t want another pre-album release. If it’s like a simultaneous or imminent precursor to the album, that’s fine. But we don’t need a third “lead” (fourth including “Sun Goes Down”) and an album in October or something like that. I really don’t think that’d be a good idea. Maybe this is how the industry works now, but eras are running out of gas before you even get the damn album. Everything is already done before you get it. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule (The Weeknd, Dua, Harry), but it just feels like, “Let’s rush everything out, release the album, and then start working on what’s next.” It’s really annoying.

That’s just the way it works now in the streaming world. Unless you’re a major star like Drake or Rihanna there’s no way you could drop an album just after 1 single. You are basically burning potential hits if you do that. The main purpose to pro-long an album release is to get as many hits off the project as possible. The pre-album singles tend to perform stronger than the post album release singles, unless there’s an unplanned runaway hit. I’m fine with the 4-5 month gap trend with two singles before and then an album release with 1-2 singles afterwards. As long as the album comes with proper timing to make it feel like a complete era. Unlike what happened to Cardi….
I like that Ed Sheeran is sticking to his guns and announced a release date. It will be a perfect 4 month build up with 2-3 songs released beforehand. And more tricks up his sleeves after the album drops (remixes, re-releases, etc.) That’s how you play the game these days. Lil Nas X knows how to play the game well, so I’m sure he won’t disappoint.

Yeah, I suppose. I’ll concede to that, but it’s just disappointing because LNX is such a visual artist, a real creative, and it’d be great to see him not empty his entire arsenal and then slow down a month or two after the album drops. I feel like there’s so much potential, but he’ll be on his next album in Q1 2022. Oh well, like you said: “the streaming era.” It’s not that I don’t accept it, it’s that I’m always looking for people to break the rules, especially if they can.

I think we just have to accept that an album release no longer comes in the beginning of an era, but rather in the middle after building to a big climax. Albums can still have 4-5 hits with the album released somewhere in the middle, if labels play their cards right.

Some people say the album will be released on Sept. 17, according to Apple Music. That would make the release right after the VMAs which would be a very clever move.

Frustrated with his album rollout. Everything was so perfect and then crickets. Why isn’t there an announcement? We don’t need another single. This was a proper launch to get the album out this month. He better have an announcement ready before or immediately after the VMAs. I DONOT want another pre-album single — that includes promotional ones (“Sun Goes Down”). It would be smart for him to drop his album the Friday after the VMA’s. It’s not too late to announce the album date, we’ve seen album release dates announced that soon plenty of times. He can perform “Industry Baby” during the ceremony. That promo plus the album drop could get him back in the Hot 100 top 3, or even potentially to #1. Also maybe drop a new music video for a new song to aid the album release, which will eventually become the 3rd single. That would be the perfect scenario in my opinion. I’m gay and I don’t even want to hear about it?? I guess shock value is his thing??? The tone it's said on the video is meant to be funny and memeable, not shocking. There's tons of explicit straight sex songs out there that are big hits (Cardi and Megan had a HUGE hit that was recognized as one of the best songs of 2020 that's way more graphic than anything Lil Nas X has rapped about or said), so for the biggest out gay artist right now to say he's a power bottom on an ad campaign is empowering and unapologetic. I dig that.

It's 2021 though, sex is empowering, expressing your sexual role is far from saying things for shock value.

I understand that, but I just have to applaud Lil Nas X for very actively breaking down barriers with regards to homoeroticism in popular culture in general and in hip-hop culture in particular. Hip-hop culture used to be super homophobic. Also, the song is a f*cking banger and I don't even like this style of modern hip-hop very much.

Heard this on the iHeart Top 20 countdown this morning and was shocked that they censored out the lyric "I'm queer." Although "queer" has been used in the past as derogatory, I'd argue it's been completely reclaimed at this point and it's obvious that he's using it in an empowering way. I literally can't see a single reason for them to censor that out and it seems homophobic and oppressive of them to censor him saying that.
