This is a disappointing turnout so far. There's so many fantastic songs here. :(

I’ll try to get this done but no promises. One of my co-workers has jury duty the next couple days so I’m doing double shifts

I’m out, just too busy this week. No problem. I'm gonna announce the first and only extension until 20th (that's the last day of my final exam), so if you feel like doing it over the weekend, you can still send me the list (20th was my intended deadline, but set it as 16th just to give a room for extension).

Just finished my list! I’ll send it when I wake up 😂
Edit: LMAO that wasn’t shade towards the quality of the song list! It’s literally just 4 in the morning, and I should be going to sleep rather than busting out my laptop 💀

1. What is going to be in the top 5/bottom 5? Tenille Arts and Tenille Townes both stand a good chance! Also maybe "Leave Each Other Alone". I would LOVE to see Terri Clark and Sykamore make it that high again as well, but I'm less confident about them. Just as long as Lindsay Ell doesn't dominate this rankdown like she has done in the past, it would be hard to go wrong with any of the other female releases. Males.....probably won't be in the top 5 Bottom 5, I could see being Gord Bamford, Aaron Goodvin, "Boys", "Tailgate To Heaven", and "Only A Woman". 2. Any new discoveries? Yes, lots of wonderful discoveries!!! I loved "Pretty Girl" and "Good At Missing You" quite a bit, but honestly found myself really enjoying this playlist a lot! 3. Which song is going to be the most polarizing one? Maybe "Heaven On Dirt"? I feel like Gord Bamford is a pretty big name with a unique identity who also has a really weird voice, so he's bound to have people like Darkest Hour love him and people like .indulgecountry hate him 4. There are three collaboration with the US singers (Mickey Guyton, Chris Lane, and Dierks Bentley). Which one is going to do the best/worst? The Dierks one will do the best. Mickey and Chris' collabs should both be bottom 5... Hopefully "Tailgate To Heaven" does the worst. 5. Any thought compared with 2020 or 2019 YE RD lists? Just what I said about Lindsay Ell. She has historically done pretty great in this series, but this is NOT her year!! Edit: Wait I see Darkest Hour didn't even participate!!! I'm not going to know if my Gord Bamford answer is true or not!!

Reveal Time!Participants: 1. CLD 2. ccarter1023 3. tim 4. castleoblivion26 5. James 6. .indulgecountry 7. razorshark 8. LBTrocks 9. bboat11 Opening Thought:Okay, let's go through this! A bit sad to see the drop in the # of participants, but the participants of the 2021 YE RD will have to listen to the top 5 of this RD anyways! This is my fav RD series, and 2021 was a solid year for Canadian country music scene. Tenille Arts has started establishing a career base in the US radio market, while MacKenzie Porter scored her first #1 in the US with Dustin Lynch. Robyn Ottolini appeared briefly in the mainstream radio scene, and some US acts, such as Dierks Bentley, Mickey Guyton, and Chris Lane, had a collaboration with Canadians. A new due Five Roses got signed by MDM, and High Valley went through a career shift. Some singers missed this list, like Tebey, Dallas Smith, Tim Hicks, The Washboard Union, or Steven Lee Olsen, as I personally thought their materials this year were not as representative of the year + I could not see doing well around here. Other acts missed the list did not release any new music, like Kristin Carter (Karma girl, she might be going independent, quite sad!), Chad Brownlee, or The Abrams. Still overall, this was a good list to me. All the songs up until #31 of my list are in my regular playlist. Throughout the reveal, I will be making a reference to the prediction I made in my Initial post (under spoiler) as well. There are three songs that have both #1 and #34 rankings...

#34 Matt Lang - Only A Woman
The bottom spot was awarded to Matt Lang, unfortunately! bboat11 correctly predicted this to be in the bottom 5. Received six bottom 5 rankings, while zero #34 ranking. ccarter1023 starts the reveal with top 10 loss. Looks like Pulse's views on Matt Lang are going down, starting with #15 --> #23, and then, the last spot! Let's see how he does in 2018. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #29)Being #31, this is the lowest song in my list that is still in my playlist (in other words, my bottom 3 are the only songs in this list that are not in my playlist). I don't like this as much as Getcha, but still enjoyed the romantic mood of this song, and melody is decent. This song reminds me of some love songs, maybe like Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran?? "In A Bar" is the current single, but since I don't like that one at all, I chose this one for this list. I was right to predict this to be in the bottom 5, as I expected this sort of production to be unpopular around here.

“Only A Woman” was so atrocious omg. I LOVED Matt Lang’s song last year and was excited to hear this and yikes what HAPPENED?! I hate this style so much.

#33 Hunter Brothers - Hard Dirt
Next up is Hard Dirt. Hunter Brothers came back to this list after missing 2019. James becomes the second participant to lose the top 10, but nobody lost their #34 yet. They are sibling from SK, and their last appearance with Silver Lining (yes my fav) was accused of being "High Valley Style". This is the follow-up to SL, and the first single from their new album Been A Minute. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #33)Not a bad song, but not in my playlist. I didn't enjoy any of their singles from Been A Minute much, but this one has the best melody + theme (it's dedicated to Covid 19 workers and struggle, so at least implicitly reflecting the current issue). Still, not a fan of production. And yay, I got a perfect prediction! I honestly don't see these guys being popular around here, but I like them back around 2017, so hopefully they will get a better treatment in the future YE RDs.

#32 Jason Blaine - End Of The Rain
Jason Blaine has a pretty unfortunate debut on Pulse. This song never charted (nor released to the radio I suspect), and he's been away from the chart since 2018, but he has been around since early 2000s, so you'll see his name on the future YE RDs. His style is pretty basic, but I always associate him with solid guitar production, rather than pop-country style. Still no #34 ranking, but this received three bottom 5 rankings. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #13)This was one of the songs that I picked that did not make it to the radio (yep 800 views on YouTube), but darn, this was treated poorly! I thought this was an inoffensive song with decent production, so didn't expect this to be in the bottom 5. I'm not a big follower of him, but to me, this song has a really beautiful melody and production, like literally reminds me of a quiet sunny afternoon after the long rain is over. I guess it might've left boring/generic impression to some of y'all.

#31 Tim & The Glory Boys - Me Without You
There was a tie with 209 points, so the one with higher standard deviation is leaving first. This received three bottom 5 rankings, and ccarter1023 becomes the first one to get rid of their #34. Likewise in 2020 RD, this band, led by a bluegrass singer Tim Neufeld, did not receive a favourable treatment here. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #22)While my fav by this band is Without a Prayer, since it has the same vibe as When You Know You Know, which did poorly in 2020, I chose this slower song with stronger melody, just to find out that it was not liked, either lol. Surprise is that LBTrocks , who gave negative reviews on their bluegrass style in the last RD, was the highest ranker of this song. I mean this has less of that bluegrass sound, but still, I thought the vocal arrangement still has bluegrass vibe. I personally like this song, but not as much as When You Know You Know or Without a Prayer.

#30 James Barker Band - New Old Trucks ft. Dierks Bentley
Another great news for ccarter1023 to score the first perfect ranking in this RD. This song received three bottom 3 rankings, and somehow, #21 was the popular spot. Against bboat11 's prediction, this song becomes the first song to leave that features a US country act. James Barker Band did not receive a favourable treatment again, following the bottom 4 spot in 2019. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #32)My fav by this band from 2021 is Over All Over Again, but it was tanked in the New Release RD, and was favoured only by fearlessarrow , who doesn't participate in this series usually, so I chose another tune, again, to find out that it was not liked as well, even with the help of Dierks Bentley. This song is not bad, a little safe melody, but the inclusion of Dierks made the song a bit more interesting, vocally. As always, I like the positive mood of their material. I'm looking forward to their new album for sure, as so far 2 out of 2 for me as for their new singles. And yes, I knew this would be in the bottom 5 lol.

Lmao who the hell is boosting the other collaborations?! The Dierks one was BY FAR the best of the three. And I didn't even love it or anything, I found it to be very middling. "Boys" at least has Mickey I guess to counterbalance the weaknesses of the song, but "Tailgate To Heaven" had literally zero redeeming qualities... Should have been out before most of these.
"Only A Woman" was such a blatant attempt at ripping off Thomas Rhett, lmao. It did make it as high as #30 on my list only because he strikes me as being a better vocalist than Thomas Rhett (not hard to do, tbh), but that whole Thomas-inspired sound is still no match for most of this list. It is VERY bland and safe, while most of these songs had a surprising amount of personality.

How on EARTH is Buck Twenty still in this?! “Cut Me Off” or w/e it’s called is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard in my whole life
Also that Tim and the Glory Boys band lol I can’t for the life of me remember their song last time but if it was a clone of High Valley’s style then I know why I hated it. Their song this time however didn’t remind me of that at all. I liked it fine, actually. I’m not in love with anything out of my top 10 tho, tbh most of them i’ll probably never revisit. I might be in the minority here but I think the list of songs last time were WAY better. I hated a good chunk of the songs this time, lol.

#29 Gord Bamford - Heaven On Dirt
This is Gord Bamford's debut on the YE RD, and cannot say it had a great start, escaping the bottom 5 by 1 point. bboat11 was not too wrong in the prediction as this was on the polarizing side and it was also hated by .indulgecountry . bboat11 got rid of his #34, while James lost another top 10 ranking. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #18)I thought this would do slightly better, as Diamonds In A Whiskey Glass was favoured by some participants, like tim , in Global Country RD. But yea, I definitely prefer DIAWG over this, that song was on repeat for a while, whereas this one was a bit of step down. He has been hit or miss (#REDNECK or Just Let Go were miss), but overall, I could see him not being favoured much around here. #1 Loss coming up!!!!

28 Aaron Goodvin - Boy Like Me
Unfortunately, razorshark becomes the first participant to lose #1 in this RD! I also lost my first top 10, while 4 participants got rid of one of their bottom 5 songs with this reveal, including #34 loss by castleoblivion26 . Aaron Goodvin's name was around the US radio a little bit this year, as he re-released Lonely Drum to US radio, while it only entered the secondary radio chart, and receive very low adds from the mainstream stations. This is also first #1 hit song in Canada to leave. CLD's Thought (Prediction: #34)I knew his vocal was not going to be liked here! I personally enjoy this song, as it has a very strong melody and energy, so glad that at least one participant razorshark favoured this song!
