Snap, I didn't even realize this was starting already...and I totally missed the pre-reveal questions!
Anyways, I thought "Can't Help Myself" was a pretty easy-going and breezy listen. And yea there were definitely some aspects of the production and his style that I thought sounded a bit reminiscent of Walker Hayes.

#31 Tebey - Who's Gonna Love You
This song was saved from the last spot by toomuchboy 's last list, and castleoblivion26 sadly lost his #4. All the other participants put this in the bottom 10, which was a little surprising to me. This is also Tebey's only #1 song in Canada throughout his career. Originally "Good Jeans" was in the list, but I was expecting this to do better that a song "Good Jeans Good Genes" kinda song, but looks like it didn't work... CLD's ThoughtTebey is known also as a song write, and he co-wrote "Somebody Else Will" by Justin Moore. Looks like he also had one song in the US back in 2003. His current materials are heavily influenced by R&B sound, and nowhere close to traditional sound. His other song "The Good Ones" did poorly in the Global Country RD, so seems like most of the tractors don't really enjoy his current materials, and still deciding whether to put Denim on Denim in my 2018 list. His concert was very enjoyable, where he sang some covers like "Some Of It" and "Stay A Little Longer" with his strong vocal.

#30 Jojo Mason - Better On You
Another R&B-influenced singer is leaving. Jojo Mason identifies himself as a country singer with an R&B/Soul vibe in it, so not surprisingly, didn't do well here. This is his biggest hit song on the chart. CLD's ThoughtI love this guy as a person, and this is one of my favs by him. This soul music vibe in this song is an earworm for me. Like Tebey, and this is the second time Jojo did poorly in the RD, following As If We Won't in Global Country RD, so I might have to cut him from some of the lists...

Intermission: Gord Bamford - #REDNEK Peak on the Chart: #12
ccarter1023 ClevelandRox toomuchboy James bboat11 🌺CountryLineDancer castleoblivion26 zaclord 🌈 .indulgecountry tim LBTrocks Okay, gonna go play tennis, so that's it for tonight. Gord Bamford brings some traditional country vibe into contemporary Canadian country music scene, but he's usually hit or miss. I introduced many of y'all with "Diamonds In A Whiskey Glass" in my Global Country RD, and I adore that song and it was tim 's #1, if I recall correctly. However, #REDNEK wasn't my fav at all, and got removed from the list, even though it was totally qualified to be in the list. Gord will make his first appearance in this series with "Dive Bar" in the 2018 RD. Throw your thoughts on this or the reveal so far, and see y'all tmrw!

I'm glad I kept "Who's Gonna Love You" from being last at least. One of those drinking "take off your clothes, baby" songs deserved it for sure.

#29 James Barker Band - There's A Drink For That
Starting the second reveal with JBB, aka "Canadian Old Dominion", and I almost lost my top 10. This is their first appearance in my RD series, but y'all ranked their Over All Over Again in the bboat11 's monthly RD, where it got tanked. JBB had been very successful in Canada until this song, having seven top 10 singles since 2016. (Chills was released in the US as well) The follow-up single to this song "Slow Down Town" was their first song to miss the top 10, so curious to see whether they can maintain the momentum on the chart with the current single Over All Over Again. CLD's ThoughtI like JBB a lot, but looks like they are not favoured here. I like James Barker's voice and positive vibe that they have in the most of the songs. The lyrics of There's Drink For That is nothing unique or creative, but I enjoy the melody and summery/catchy vibe of the song.

#28 Alli Walker - Raise Your Head
Alli Walker YE RD History #14 (2020) Little Things First female to lose is Alli Walker. She is one of the females I added based on my preference and as a "recommendation", not based on its chart performance, but sadly, I was wrong and she failed. Surprised to see so many bottom 5 rankings! And James got rid of his #32. CLD's ThoughtA bit disappointing! I don't love the lyrics of this song, but I adore Alli's voice + melody of this tune, and I'm not sure how she doesn't made her way to radio plays, but looks like I'm a minority here. I guess her vocal is too weak or lyrics were poor, and that's why it was tanked...? Little Things (which I slightly prefer) did fine in 2020, so this was not what I was expecting to see! This is all I have for Alli Walker for now , so you won't see her in my RD unless she releases a new one!

#27 Ryan Langdon - She Knows It
Ryan Langdon escaped the bottom 5 by, to my surprise, winning over the Alli Walker's song by 3 points! castleoblivion26 unfortunately lost another top 10 song, following Tebey. Ryan Langdon is a singer-song writer from Niagara Falls, Ontario, and has country-rock vibe in many of his songs. While this was never released as a radio single, as far as I know, some of his materials made it to the 40s on the chart. CLD's ThoughtPersonally, this is the only song by Langdon that I enjoyed, and thus, it made it to the list as the 32nd song, as I thought this would be the only opportunity to rank this guy for now. This song has a very smooth melody, and just flows well in my ears. I don't love his country rock materials, but it will be shared in the "intermission"

#26 High Valley - Single Man
High Valley YE RD History #22 (2020) Grew Up On That First US release song to leave the RD is High Valley! This song was in the top 5 after 4 lists, but it was the story before .indulgecountry and LBTrocks 's lists. Also, this song is tying with #25. As far as I remember, this did not make it to any of the US chart, including the small market ones. CLD's ThoughtI don't like this as much as "Grew Up On That", but still it's a catchy jam. It's kinda sad that they are splitting, and while they are still touring and making music, I'm interested to see their next move in terms of the radio single.

Intermission: Ryan Langdon - Lit In The Sticks Peak on the Chart: #39
ccarter1023 ClevelandRox toomuchboy James bboat11 🌺CountryLineDancer castleoblivion26 zaclord 🌈 .indulgecountry tim LBTrocks Okay, that's it for tonight. It was very quiet, which is understandable, as it's still at the lower part of the reveal, but feel free to drop your thoughts. Not sure I have time tmrw, so might continue on Fri.
Here's the tune by Ryan Langdon which was going to be in the list, if my list was based on the chart. This has more country rock vibe, and sounds like something Brantley Gilbert would do, and might be fun for concerts, but yeah, not a huge fan.

It’s hard to be passionate about High Valley. For me, there’s not a lot to differentiate them from other acts so I’m surprised to see passionate dislike for them. What do people do strongly detest about High Valley? I thought it was just their lack of originality/deep Mumford influence but that just seems a reason to be indifferent about them. There must be more to it….

There must be more to it…. They sing bad pop music and throw some banjo over it and try to pass it off as folk influenced, their vocals are terrible and they are Mumford and Suns knockoffs, and M&S are atrocious enough. I had to endure High Valley live (from the front row) and their vocals are not only grating to me but technically very meh/weak. There’s just nothing about them I enjoy whatsoever. Ultimately, for me, it comes down to the fact that they’re singing a style of music that I personally detest with vocals that are like nails on a chalkboard to me.

#25 Dallas Smith - Drop
Dallas Smith YE RD History #11 (2020) Timeless Canadian Luke Bryan Another popular name in Canada is leaving! Drop was the third single from Dallas's album "Timeless", and one of his 11 #1 hits in Canada. Same as High Valley, and this had a decent start, but ended up dropping losing momentum after a while. James sadly becomes the second person to lose his top 5! CLD's ThoughtI don't love this as much as Timeless, which was my #1 in 2020, but this is still a jam. I understand Dallas's voice could be polarizing, and I do enjoy a lot of his materials, but let's see whether you still want to tank him if he comes with Terri Clark in 2018 RD!

“Drop” was so bad that I considered putting it last instead of High Valley.
That beat/production is absolutely death to my ears. I’m not a fan of anything Dallas Smith does, but wow this one was especially awful.

Back when they tried breaking Dallas in the US with Kids With Cars (I think), I remember thinking GTFO with that voice. Now he’s one of my Canadian favorites. Pop music but he knows his lane and I appreciate the music for what it is.

#24 Tim Hicks - What A Song Should Do
Tim Hicks YE RD History #30 (2020) No Truck Song Another #1 hit is leaving! Still being #24, this is an improvement for Tim, considering his bottom place with "No Truck Song" in 2020. Unfortunately, ClevelandRox lost his #5 and zaclord 🌈 lost his #6, while I got rid of my #32. LBTrocks cleared his bottom 8 with this song! This is Tim's first career #1 song, which was followed by No Truck Song hitting #1 in 2020. CLD's ThoughtI don't dislike this song, but it's very alright, and hence my #32. Unpopular opinion, but I strongly prefer No Truck Song over this. This didn't make it to the list if it wasn't a #1 hit.

They sing bad pop music and throw some banjo over it and try to pass it off as folk influenced, their vocals are terrible and they are Mumford and Suns knockoffs, and M&S are atrocious enough. Well, we at least can meet in the middle and agree on High Valley lol. I myself happen to be a fan of the alternative indie/indie rock groups such as Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, and Of Monsters and Men, so you'd think that in turn I'd probably at least somewhat enjoy High Valley. For the same reasons stated above by LBTrocks , I think they attempted to tap into the indie rock fanbase with a more contemporary country and pop sound infused altogether. Needless to say, it doesn't work for me and I've always found their particular sound to be a bit gimmicky as well. I wasn't expecting to like Dallas Smith's "Drop" initially, but as the song went on it kinda grew on me. It was one of those songs that kinda got stuck in my head and so I found myself coming back around to it a few more times. I couldn't quite justify putting this in my top 15, so I ended up placing it just outside of that. That said, I'm not surprised that this appears to be one of the more polarizing songs amongst the list. I also didn't realize that this was co-written by producer/songwriter Joey Moi, but now that I'm relistening to the song I can definitely hear his influence.

Gimmicky, inauthentic, unoriginal... all words I would use to describe High Valley lol. It also doesn't help that I've had someone in the past tell me "you must not like the real country then" when I tell them I dislike HV. Lol wut. Honey, if you think they're the 'real country' then... I don't know what to tell ya.

ccarter1023 ClevelandRox toomuchboy James bboat11 🌺CountryLineDancer castleoblivion26 zaclord 🌈 .indulgecountry tim LBTrocks Will continue my reveal in a few hours! We will lose more top 5 songs, and we are not too far from our first #1 loss!
Here's a top 10 hit that I removed from the list. I kinda regret not including Can't Not in 2020 RD, and I may include that in 2021, but this song was out from the first place. This was so overplayed by my local station, and a song like "good bye city hello country" won't do much here. You'll rank his song "Timing Is Everything", which is a much better tune, in 2018 RD.

#23 Matt Lang - Watered Down The Whiskey
Matt Lang YE RD History #15 (2020) Getcha The last spot in the bottom 10 was filled by Québécois guy Matt Lang's debut radio single! toomuchboy got rid of his #32, while tim lost his #4. The reveal has been quite good for LBTrocks , but unfortunately, he lost his #6 here as well. To my surprise, this song turned out to be a polarizing one. CLD's ThoughtThis song is alright, and considered adding into my playlist, but hasn't happened yet. I strongly prefer Getcha over this one. I like the instrumental production of this one, and the melody is quite catchy, but something had to be my #31.

#22 Madison Kozak - First Last Name
Madison Kozak is the second female artist to leave this RD! tim sadly lost another top 5 song here. I'm not sure if any of you knew Madison, but she's a singer-songwriter from Ontario, and unfortunately, has never been on the chart. This is her debut song, a song about father-daughter relationship. CLD's ThoughtShe has never been on the chart, and I've just picked her based on my preference, and I was expecting her to do a little better than this, as it's a strong song, lyrically and melodically. I love the production of this song + I'm a huge fan of her voice, especially at concerts. (she opened for Morgan Evans in Vancouver). She's showing up in the 2018 RD as well.

Wait, I wasn’t expecting to come back from intermission only to lose not one but two of my top five rankings! What the heck is wrong with “Water Down the Whiskey” anyways?! At least LBTrocks and myself finally found a song we both can jam out to lol (with ClevelandRox joining us of course). I quite enjoyed this one myself, so I don’t know what y’all didn’t like about it. “First Last Name” was one of those rare songs that stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. I’m quite disappointed that this didn’t manage to at least make the top 20 as it was by far one of my favorite discoveries.

#21 Jessica Mitchell - Maybe It's Me
The last song to miss the top 20 is Jessica Mitchell. She made it to the semi-final of the Season 2 Canadian Idol. (I know Annika from Leaving Thomas and Karen Lee Batten are also country singers from that show, but I don't really know that show itself, Kanenrá:ke might know more...?) toomuchboy unfortunately lost his #4, and .indulgecountry and bboat11 also lost one of their top 10 songs. This song was not released as a single, and "Somebody Gonna Get Hurt" was a radio single with Tim Hicks, peaked at #37. That was an alright song + it'll be double Tim, so I went for this instead. CLD's ThoughtFelt bad that I had to rank this at #27, and I started liking this song more through this RD, but changing the ranking would be against the rule, so.... I don't really know Jessica's output much, but this is definitely the strongest one of all the materials I've Checked. Chorus melody is really smooth + her vocal sounds strong to me. So yeah, glad that the last three lists from toomuchboy, .indulgecountry, and bboat11 kinda saved this song from falling into the bottom 10.
