I didn’t actively listen to them, but his voice is much better suited for rock music. He’s pretty whiny and grating in his country songs… but that might just be because the songs themselves absolutely suck.

Another solo female is leaving here. This song was the most polarizing song on the list, and received three top 5 rankings, and two bottom 5 rankings, and nathanalbright becomes the last participant to got rid of the bottom spot.

CLD's Thought (Prediction #5)
I had the same impression on this song as I did on Danger Danger, good vocal and production, but the melody could have been better. I almost wanted to pick Missing You over this song, as I like that one better, but this is definitely the better representation of her output around this time + glad to see some fans.

2020 #29 Wash My Truck

The second to last solo male is exiting, leaving Chad Brownlee to be the last standing male. In Comes The Night received four top 10 rankings and only one bottom 10 ranking, resulting in the huge improvement in the performance of Bobby Willis in this game, who ended up second to the last spot in the previous game. 

CLD's Thought (Prediction #22)
This is a solid country tune imo, so glad to see a decent performance here. It does not have the strongest verse melody or lyrics, and Bobby does not have any distinct vocal, but I really enjoy the production and chorus melody of this song, which I found to have a hint of sexy vibe. While I included Wash My Truck in the last game due to its US release, I definitely enjoyed Bobby's output in the early 2010s, rather than his recent attempts.

Interesting, when I saw her opening for Lee Brice last month, I quite enjoyed her vocal performance. But again, it might also depend on the venue, as my concert was at a stadium.

Since there was a tie at #5, this song is the last song to miss the spot to the decade end RD. This was also the second last song that I picked from the sea of non-charting songs. As well, this song is the first song with no bottom 10 rankings in this game. Jessica Mitchell is known as a contestant of Canadian Idol, and since her last appearance in this game, she definitely gained some more popularity with this tune. 

CLD's Thought (Prediction #21)
I actually have never heard of this song until when I was trying to find the last spot in the list, after removing Tim Hicks, as I wanted to add another female artist in the game, and glad my choice turned out to be well received by many posters. I do prefer Maybe It's Me, but this song still has a great chorus melody, and I can hear some vulnerability from her vocal, which effectively delivery the theme of this song.

The impression must have changed over time, as bboat11 ranked this song at #18 in that game, while .indulgecountry placed this at #4, and here, bboat is ranking this song 10 spot above indulge.

The difference is that bboat11 loves Tenille, and I... don't. A top 5 against other Tenille songs is one thing, but when she's up against other artists, she's bound to rank lower.

There was a tie here with 74 points, and technically, Chad Brownlee should end at the higher point with the lower standard deviation, but since it is within the top 5, I am calling a tie. Both songs have very low standard deviation, and neither song received any bottom half ranking. Jess Moskaluke secured her 4th top 5 ending in this game, while this is Chad Brownlee's first entrance in the top 5. His songs seem to be hit or miss on this board, receiving two 25+ endings and two top 10 endings so far. The lowest ranking for Might As Well Be Me was #13 from tim , which is the highest bottom ranking that a song received in this game (even #1 has a lower bottom ranking!)

CLD's Thought (Prediction #2 and #10)

Elevator is very catchy, and Jess's vocal is pretty strong It is interesting that the writing only focused on the going up part of the elevator, and comparing that feeling of ascending on an elevator with the excitement of a romantic relationship. On one hand, it is a creative writing, but it also makes me think that their writing makes going on an elevator sound so exciting and thrilling, especially because they attempt to compare the feelings to a romantic relationship. Say Rollercoaster could have been more accurate, but again, there are a few songs already featuring Rollercoaster, so elevator was more creative choice. Also, they only focused on the going up part of the elevator, while I felt like they could have also addressed the fallout of the relationship by mentioning the descending on the elevator, but again, it does not alight with the up-tempo song, I suppose.
Might As Well Be has a fantastic melody, and Chad's vocal effectively delivers the romantic lyrics. Happy that he finally got the top 5 spot in this game, and as I keep saying in this game, hope to see him back to the music, as I really like him in general.

This one is another hit from Sykamore, and it is my fav from her Self & Medicine EP. The chorus melody is pretty nice, and the production is suited well to her vocal. The lyrics evoke the romantic moment in a houseboat, while I think she could have used a little more unique reference to the houseboat to enhance the imagery.

This song has a pleasant melody, but I am actually surprised that this is the best performing song by her in this game so far. I definitely prefer lower ranking songs, such as Never Giving Up On You or Wild As Me, especially due to the strength of the melody. I always forget how the verse of this song goes. I do like the writing, but I still do like the writing of What A Song Can Do, for instance, if I compare this with a song with a similar theme. Good to see her finally getting a top 3 spot in this game though!

This is it!! With a difference of 6 points, Madeline Merlo scored became the winner of this series for the first time. Madeline received four top 5 rankings, including two #1s from myself and Castle, as well as one bottom 10 ranking from LBTrocks . Lindsay Ell is continuing to do well here as well with three top 5 rankings and zero bottom half ranking. This is her 5th time in the final of this game. Over And Over might have been familiar to some posters as it was included in Castle's Pulse Top 50, which might have helped it winning this game after all. Waiting On You was also the runner up of the Lindsay Ell Album RD a few years back. Big shout out to castleoblivion26 for scoring the perfect top 3!

CLD's Thought (Prediction #1 and #3)

Expected and great top 2, and pleasantly surprised that Madeline managed to take the #1 spot from Lindsay for once. That said, I do like Waiting On You as well. It does not have the strongest country rock vibe, like Criminal, or catchy melody, like By The Way, but I still love her vocal performance. Over And Over has a flawless melody, and even though her vocal is not as strong as Lindsay, I still think she sounds pretty well in this song. Madeline has been doing well in this series lately, and I am definitely here for it!

Thanks everyone for joining the game again, and hopefully you enjoyed ranking the list. It was interesting to see some artists, especially male, such as Chad Brownlee, Bobby Willis, and Dallas Smith managed to sneak into the top 10, while it was also satisfying to see Canadian females that I proudly present, including Lindsay, Jess, Madeline, and Sykamore, continued to gain some popularity. We are slowly and steadily making our way to do the decade end RD, but still a long way to go. Reason for exclusion: Aaron has been historically underperforming in this series, although he might not be too unfamiliar among US audience, as he has been releasing radio singles in the US small market. The solo version of this song failed to crack the top 10 in my personal RD (Global RD Pt 2), and even though Meghan's addition is improving the song, I could not expect much from this song even if it was included in the RD.
 
CLD's Thought: Vocally average, but this song has one of the strongest melodies for Aaron Goodvin. Meghan's addition is okay, but I wish she got a solo part.

Reason for exclusion: This was on the list until last minute, when I decided to replace this with Emily Reid's song. My plan was to include this, as this could well be ending up as their biggest career hit, but I also know this sound would not be really popular among the posters. 
 
CLD's Thought: This song has a nice melody and vocal is quite unique. I do like it okay, but nothing special of a song. 



High Valley - Do This Life w/Alison Krauss
Peak #4

Reason for exclusion: High Valley is not the most popular figure, and this song did not perform well in the New Release RD. Also, High Valley's collab with Tim & Glory Boys is added to the game instead.
 
CLD's Thought: This was an interesting collab, and it was not an instant song to me, but I ended up liking it a lot. The addition of Alison is definitely improving the sound.

James Barker Band - Meet Your Mama
Peak #3

Reason for exclusion: I was pretty close to including this song, as JBB performed well in the 2022 RD, but my impression is that the song is overall weak and forgettable, so I decided to cut close to the final list.
 
CLD's Thought: The melody and lyrics are fine, but definitely not as strong as their other songs, as I typically enjoy their outputs.




James Barker Band - On The Water f. Dalton Dover
Peak #6

Reason for exclusion: This performed poorly in the New Release RD, and even I, a fan of JBB, kinda dislike this song
 
CLD's Thought: On The Water has a nice verse and chorus melody, up to it hits the second part of the chorus. It has a potential to be a summer jam, and the addition of Dalton is definitely interesting, but it got wasted due to the poor melody, imo.

Reason for exclusion: Tim Hicks is also not a popular figure among this board, and this song also did not perform well in the New Release RD.
 
CLD's Thought: This song is pretty good, one my favs from Tim Hicks, lyrically and melodically. He had four songs from this era, (Whiskey Does, Dodge Out Of Hell, and Yee To The Haw), but this is the only one I like.




Eric Ethridge - Made In Mexico
Peak #47

Reason for exclusion: This song is not bringing anything new to the table, and I included enough male songs to the list. As well, "Liquor's Callin' the Shots" performed pretty poorly in the previous RD.
 
CLD's Thought: This song is pretty catchy, but not too memorable or distinct. Still, If You Met Me First is by far his best effort.

Andrew Hyatt - Four Good Years
Peak #31

Reason for exclusion: While Andrew sometimes perform well in this RD, Close To You flopped, and Four Good Years did not feel like the song that can recover his momentum here.

CLD's Thought: Lyrics are not bad, but melody is kinda meh, almost the same impression with Close To You. I hope he comes back with stronger songs, although L Is For is a strong candidate to be included in the 2024 RD already. 




Tony Stevens - Tomorrow Today
Peak #47

Reason for exclusion: This song feels very faceless, and it was not even a bit hit. He is like Teddy Robb, Nate Barnes, and Adam Doleac in Canadian chart.
 
CLD's Thought: This song is pretty catchy, but that's the only impression. I like the melody well enough, but nothing special.
