^The other option would be to have a "Compilations" album chart to separate them as they do in the UK. If I'm not mistaken, in many weeks the #1 there actually ends up with more units in than the #1 in the Albums chart and would be have been #1 if it were included in the chart.

I guess this isn't much of an issue if newer artists aren't releasing greatest hits/compilations that much anymore. The Weeknd is just an unusual exception. What matters more of course is legacy artists. Maybe playlisted/non-on demand streams shouldn't count towards SPS then, if it can't easily be discerned what album the listener was expressing interest in.

The UK only separates soundtrack album or albums like NOW compilations. They do not separate Greatest Hits look at their chart, there are tons of Greatest Hits albums charting. This is such a non issue, The Weeknd is the first major artist to release one in years, who cares about these rules.

I'm rather surprised Greatest Hits albums are even still a thing honestly.
I see the Greatest Hits albums eventually (already?) being largely replaced with streaming playlists. Maybe an artist could release 1-2 new tracks to be put on to a new streaming playlist with "their Greatest Hits" on it. As far as how you would count that towards album streams...doing it that way would make it a non-issue as the track from the original album would be what's on the playlist.
But then you have artists re-recording entire past albums. Which further complicates things. I'm very curious how re-recording and re-releasing her previous albums will do for Taylor Swift. How is this new version of Love Story counting? Are its sales and streams counting towards the original Fearless release, or towards the new Fearless re-release? Are we going to have two versions of the same album charting in the near future? I can see how this can get confusing pretty quickly lol.

^Billboard has noted that the re-recordings (albums and songs) will count as their own entities, with no link to, or being combined with, the originals.
