Was JUST thinking about them the other day and how they snuck in an AOTY nom (though I would say it was deserved) and wondering where the new music was and...BOOM. So excited. One of my favorite bands.

One of the things I love about them, has always been the thought they put into the pre-announcement/pre-release campaign and the album concepts. Can't wait to see what direction they go with this album.

Coldplay's new single Higher Power will be out on May 7. It's produced by Max Martin. Rumor is that they'll perform the song on American Idol finale and at Brit Awards where they'll open the show. They're coming with a bang i guess.

So as of now we know of likely four of the tracks for the upcoming album: "Music of the Spheres", "Higher Power" (presumably tracks 1 & 2), "Human Heart", and now the BTS collab.

Music of the Spheres is coming October 15th.
Along with the album announcement, they released a teaser of all 12 tracks on the album, with the album’s closer releasing this Friday.
Notably, the album is subtitled Vol. 1: From Earth With Love.

This sounds pretty good.
Based only on those small clips, 'Humankind' and 'People of the pride' look like will be two big anthemic stadium songs to add to their catalogue, and 'My universe', which I think is the BTS collab, is really funky.

I know they have millions of followers, but man this band bores me SO MUCH. I remember liking them when Yellow was released and with some other singles that came after although I was never BIG on them. I do remember sensing from people back then that it was "cool" to listen to Coldplay. But seeing them now doing stuff with BTS feels so so far away from the band of the early 2000s. I do not feel any cool factor at all anymore.
The only song I'll listen out of curiosity is the collaboration with Selena Gomez.

I've been busy all weekend and I gave this a spin yesterday but didn't pay much attention to it, but I liked what I heard. The presale for their Mexico City concert starts this Tuesday and my credit card is ready. |

A very solid album, if a little...lean? That worked more for VLV because the songs were epic, but this could have been a little more fleshed out. I also didn't really care about critics skewering them again because...well, critics hate them mostly and also, I got the album for free from Amazon using a gift card I got from work, so either way, it wasn't gonna be a loss for me. LOL @ them ripping off Muse so blatantly on People Of The Pride. The song is fine, at least.

I don't know why Humankind isn't getting more attention. I mean, the BTS song is actually solid and catchy, but Humankind is Charlie Brown/Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall-level epic. Also, the song with Selener is the best collab on the album by a country mile. A beautiful song. Wasn't sure how it would work, but Gurgling Goose pulled it off. This is the Fix You of the album. Not thematically, obviously, but same caliber.
