This was sent to country radio at 12 am, EST. Republic and MCA Nashville credited as the labels.
There’s no impact date so this appears as if they’re just giving it to radio as a potential addition to their gold title log.

I love this version more than I was expecting from hearing the little clip we had in the advert before. I’m sure this will grow on me and I’ll end up preferring it to the original

Also, this seems to answer the looming question that folks have had for months now about what the new recordings are going to sound like. Like, was she going to poppify the country songs? Countrify the pop songs? This appears to be a nearly note-for-note carbon copy of "Love Story" (I say nearly because I do hear at least a couple new things going on in the instrumental arrangement after a close note-by-note listen, lol. But it's effectively identical). I could see some people complaining about how identical it is, tbh. However, while it is a note-for-note remake of "Love Story", it is a note-for-note remake of "Love Story" that has SIGNIFICANTLY better vocals and production I could honestly listen to this instead of the original and feel like I am missing nothing! I like that she did this the way that she did, because as a casual fan, I literally will never have to give Scooter and his camp any coins whatsoever, because I can listen to this without losing any of the magic of the original. It has everything, PLUS it doesn't sound dated af like the original does now! If the goal is to completely eliminate the need to buy the original album from Scooter and Scott, then this approach is much more likely to be effective than "reimagining" every song would have done. It remains to be seen if everything will be note-for-note remakes or if she'll take more liberties with some things that may not have aged very well, but I am legit very excited to check out the rest of this project! Having recordings of her entire catalog from the peak of her vocal prime is going to be a huge gift to her fans, that frankly is quite historic. Nobody has ever done something like this before, so it will be fascinating to see what lingering effect this has on the music industry. 'Cause Taylor is absolutely one of the most influential people in the music industry right now, love her or hate her. Everything she does has a palpable impact on release strategies, sales trends, merchandise rollouts, tour promotions, etc.

Wow it's gonna take me a while to get used to the new versions. And "Love Story" isn't even one of my favorites.
Some first listen thoughts: 1. The production is nice I guess. Like a cool updated demo. 2. Her vocals are nice. Definitely more mature but not that different. Probably cause she has performed the song like 500 times since her Fearless era days so we know how she sounds singing it. 3. My main issue is the mixing. It's giving me "Christmas Tree Farm" flashbacks... I'm gonna get used to it I guess. But istg, if they do Red & 1989 like that... 3. The bridge (so basically the part of the song that was used in the Ryan Reynolds commercial) is by far the best part.

If she released a very different version, fans would still play the original so I really expected it to be just like or atleast similar as a replacement song. I like the nostalgic feeling of listening to this again, and with the whole album being released again, I'm happy that album cuts might get more recognition than before, since streaming is still not strong during that era except for singles with music videos.

Didn’t she already use this in the commercial for Ryan Reynolds? So, we already had a pretty good idea that she’d be re-recording versions very close to the original.

The new "Love Story" is not identical to the original, but it's pretty damn close. If you play the tracks back to back, you can definitely notice some subtle differences, but on its own Taylor's version will be mostly indistinguishable for listeners. There are really only two really significant differences. One is her voice which we always knew was going to be improved. In my opinion, it is improved but not really that different. She clearly tried to capture the same young and girlish sentiment with her voice (as in, it doesn't sound like the vocals came off of folklore or evermore), but the thinness of her voice in the original is gone, which is good. This will be the siginficant improvement for all tracks from her first few albums. The other really noticeable difference is that the background vocals are not as prominent. This is a slight disappointment for me because I actually like the louder background vocals, BUT I also think it's not enough of a difference to matter much unless you're really listening in on headphones. I've already listened to Taylor's version many times, and I've done a few back and forth listens. The first listen was the most jarring, thinking, "Hmmm, this is the same but also not" but with every subsequent listen, I care less about the subtle differences, and honestly I don't think it will be that hard for this to replace the original. Once everyone has given Taylor's version several listens, I think most will not notice or care either. I am listening to the Fearless album right now, and I replaced the OG with Taylor's version, and it flowed very well, showing that this is an excellent re-recording. I still kind of can't believe Taylor is doing this, but then when I think about who she is and how stubborn, proud, and fearless she is, it makes perfect sense.

#2 on UK iTunes, behind the RuPaul's Drag Race song which is sure to be dropping anytime soon. Hopefully it can be a no.1 hit here.

This is just wonderful and I am SO excited to hear the rest of her re-recordings!
I get why they started with this/Fearless, but I am most looking forward to the new version of her self-titled debut because it's my favorite and it will have the most noticeable change in vocals.

I mean it will initially sell because it's Taylor but the very subtle differences aren't enough for the general public to think of it as anything but the same ol' "Love Story", meaning I don't see it charting on radio or anything.
I'm glad she is honoring the originals though. If it's about owning the old songs, this is the way to go.

Yeah, I don't think there's any intention or goal in mind to have this be a 'single' at radio again. I think it was formally shipped to radio only as an option for them to swap out with the original gold cut recurrent from 2008. I wouldn't be surprised if she does that for all her major country hits as they come out, because she still enjoys a decent amount of recurrent airplay with several of her hits, but they'll feel a bit fresher and less dated now with the re-recording so it could extend their shelf life at country radio.

Not only is it about owning the old songs, but if you wanted like an entirely new arrangement....the entire point of these re-recordings outside of taking her narrative back is to devalue the originals by making the remasters carbon copies. The originals would be worth tons more if Taylor went and poppified the country songs, countrified the pop songs, and did entirely new vocal arrangements. Scooter would make more money from her catalog, which is not what she wants.
With both the originals and Taylor's Version on her streaming pages, it'll be interesting to see how the Taylor's Versions hold up against the originals. Putting unreleased songs from The Vault is a genius move, because it will drive incentive for streaming Taylor's Version over the original.

SO WE'RE COUNTING THEM AS NEW (as in--separate from the originals) ALBUMS?! YAY!!!! I would've figured we'd have just ranked each set of new tracks but since I wasn't around for the Taylor Swift Album Series I'm more than happy to get the chance to rank these new versions! (and I thought reputation couldn't be re-recorded until November 2022 because of having to be 5 years old?)

I think the best thing she could do with these re-recordings is keep it as close to the originals as possible. They are the songs people know and love. So I'm glad Love Story seems likes she is taking that route. I think these new re-recordings will capture the attention of the GP/fans for a short sharp incline and then a pretty quick fall. Seeing as they are basically the same song doesn't really make you want to revisit it a whole lot.
I'm excited to hear the songs we haven't had the chance to hear before though.

Not to mention the fact that y'all also have a Singles Rankdown 2.0 still on the back burner that now you have to decide what to do with. Do we redo it sooner with the original old versions that were hits, or do we wait 'til later when ALL of the new recordings have been released so we don't give Scooter more coins? Or do we redo it sometime in the middle of this process as as soon as evermore is done having singles released? What if she releases new singles out of the new tracks on these albums?! And the album tracks rd is even worse off, because now we pretty much have to wait until we do her entire album series all over again! Lol! Not to mention y'all insisted on doing "first impression" rankdowns for folklore and evermore, which means you still presumably have to redo both of those as well Ms. Taylor is simply too prolific these days for the rankdown world to keep up 😂

The fact that any song can reach the Top 40 with approximately 10 spins at AC. The threshold is insane at that format.
