For real though, I'm extremely happy "Latch" pulled off the win here! I've always found it to be such a jam

{RD CLOSENESS} @gabingston - 25.98
{YE CLOSENESS} @gabingston - 31.64
{P-P-P-P-PERFECTOS} @gabingston - 2 Thank you for hosting, Football and wrip! It was an honor to participate, even if I did go through two rounds of roasting. I know my taste in music can be a bit... unorthodox at times, but I did enjoy watching the results roll in over the past week, even losing my #2 in the bottom 10. I'll be back for 2011, I just looked at that year on my blog and it was a pretty strong year, one of the better ones in the 2010s (just below 2012 IMO). I will be eagerly awaiting the beginning of that rankdown, so I can finish up my ranking and see how things go. Also, here are my old Best and Worst Hit Songs of 2014 lists from last year, if anyone is interested. Best: gabingston.blogspot.com/2020/02/top-10-best-hit-songs-of-2014.htmlWorst: gabingston.blogspot.com/2020/01/top-10-worst-hit-songs-of-2014-for.html

Had this rankdown taken place before the "Music" controversy and before S** revealed how much of an ableist she really is, "Chandelier" would've been my #1. It's a fantastic song, one of my favourites of 2014 and, until S**'s career flames out completely, it'll be one I'll never revisit.
EDIT: I'm really glad "Latch" came out victorious and that "Rather Be" ended up #3 too! Both great songs!

Thanks for hosting Football and wrip, that Top 3 was really good and I'm completely fine either of them winning! Also, Closeness-wise, this maybe my best Rankdown performance yet. A RD Closeness completely far from Bottom 10 and 2nd highest in YE Closeness is amazing!

......did I miss something on the f**k Sia movement? I haven't thought about her in a while so excuse me for being oblivious Sia made a film called Music, which is about an autistic girl and her older sister that takes care of her. The autistic character (named Music) is played by Maddie Ziegler, whose casting pissed people off since sheโs neurotypical. It would take a long ass time to go into the ways siaโs characterization of autism in the film is not lit, so I wonโt go in depth. One especially egregious example is the use of the prone restraint on Music while sheโs having a meltdown, a type of restraint notorious for killing those itโs used on (see Eric Parsa, Max Benson, Faith Finley). Thatโs not only problematic, but itโs dangerous to teach people that the prone restraint should be used. Siaโs reaction to this criticism was AWFUL. She cursed out and insulted autistic people on Twitter a lot, admitted she didnโt know that the autism group she worked with for the film, Autism Speaks, was shitty, and so on. Itโs been baaaaad.

{Happy April Fools Day. I would just like to say all my hating on Sweater Weather and Latch has been a ruse, and I actually love both songs} Sweater Weather is one of the worst alt hits of the 2010s. I don't understand why Imagine Dragons gets so much scorn but this passes by without much backlash when all the worst trends are just as present. Jesse Rutherford's has no charisma as a vocalist and isn't smooth enough to pull this as a hook-up song but it's also too slow and plodding to vibe to, there's not even a chill atmosphere to this song. It feels less like a song to have sex to or even get high to, and more like the slow pause at a party where nothing's happening and everyone's too inebriated to do anything. You might not like Cool Kids for being cheesy and immature but at least that song had a hook and a populist attitude to it all. This is just too insular, it's a nothing of a song. {Congrats to Red and wrip for hosting, great job with the gifs and graphics. Cant wait for the next YE rankdown!} For what it's worth as much as I've been ragging on Latch, I do see the appeal, especially the verses and pre-chorus. I still find their squawking with the synths on the chorus to be absolutely unlistenable. That said, even though I'm not a big fan of Sam Smith or Disclosure, I actually think Omen is really good

Thank you so much for hosting! It was very fun following this rankdown, even without having participated. And I'm so happy "Latch" was the winner. Fantastic song, and a sublime display of Sam Smith's phenomenal voice.
Also delighted at the little trivia: "Ain't It Fun" couldn't be more fitting to have the lowest standard deviation (such a great song - and a shame it couldn't hold on to the top 2), and "Birthday" being the biggest gainer from the re-do makes me so happy - by far the best single from the "PRISM" era (though I also enjoy "Unconditionally").
I would say "Talk Dirty" deserved better, but it was worth it for the #69 placement ๐

It has to be April Fools' cause my predictions weren't abysmally off. {the top 10 might look like this} 1. Team (-4) 2. Latch (-1) 3. Rather Be โ๏ธ 4. Royals (-4) 5. Chandelier (-3) 6. Hold On, We're Going Homeโ๏ธ 7. Habits (Stay High)โ๏ธ 8. Sweater Weather (-1) 9. Ain't It Fun (-5) 10. Wake Me Upโ๏ธ
You did a great job Football & wrip ! Can't wait to see you host again. I lowkey should've sent cause my list would've boosted "Ain't It Fun" to #3.

disco is this song not horny enough for you I don't like this one that much. It got so much overplay on the radio and at work. It was on our playlist for like 4 years at least 2 to 3 times a day. It also was in a TV commercial for a local shady "casino" so I heard it at least 10 times a day for 4 years.
