Mean It This Time reminds me of New Level of Life as the melody of both songs sound like Southeast Asian music, so I definitely eat them up.

The melody of Day One sounds too much like I Hope You're Happy Now, but I appreciate she added this and Show Me Around to broaden the theme a little bit (so that this is not a 100% divorce album).

Show me around and Day One are easily in the top half of the album for me. Mean it this time has a lot of replay from me as well. All are out way too soon.

Next Girl too high, Messy, Day One, and Show Me Around entirely too low.
In a perfect world country radio would have given the singles on here faster chart runs, because I think Messy was a hit waiting to happen. Feels like it would have been a good final single on the album.

That was brutal. All of my Top 4 gone and they all deserved better. </3

I remember Show Me Around as my #1 ranking for my first-ever RD participation on this board, loving the beautiful chorus melody. Even among the list of strong songs here, I was expecting it to be a bit higher!

This is such a damn strong album that I can't even be sad about where anything places really. "Day One" is only my last place because I don't find it really fits the album. Not just topically but something in the sound doesn't gel fully for me. I can hear like every song on this album as a potential single, I wish we could've had at least 2 more like we used to. I really don’t like that she is so easily giving up the dog in “Diamondback” and it ruins how I feel about the song. That, and it never references a snake yet makes the title one word. Is the ex the snake?

As painful as some of these reveals have been, there really isn't anything in the top 5 that doesn't deserve it or that I otherwise wouldn't have expected to be there. "Messy" was one that snuck up on me and took me by surprise when I was doing my rankings. I haven't paid this album as much attention as some of you; I only gave it one or two listens when it came out. So coming into this I definitely didn't expect anything to sneak into my list high enough to beat out any of the obvious perfect top 3 of NWTBTG, WHDD, and 29! I don't know if it was just my mood when I was listening to it again or what, but "Messy" flew straight towards the top of my list this time. But even then, top 5 would have been a longshot, so I'm super thrilled to see it be the highest album track that isn't one of the obvious fan favorites!
Also, "Easy Goin'" sounds like something Sara Evans could have pushed to reach its full potential. With Carly, it doesn't quite work for me as well as I think it has potential to do so.

YES! Sara would have nailed that one.

I get the appeal for this one, and having Patty on it is iconic, but for the song itself I just don’t care for it. Not bad by any means, just doesn’t hold a candle to how much I adore the rest of the album.

"Dear Miss Loretta" is a wonderful song for what it is, but I also feel that the appeal of the rare all-star collab with Patty Loveless over-sells the final product by just a little bit. Definitely not disappointed to see it in the top 5, but I honestly wouldn't have been surprised to see it just barely miss out in favor of "Next Girl" or something. That's what ended up happening on my own list, after all!

Wait "Should've Known Better" sneaking ahead of "29" for top album track?!!!? Consider me shook!!!! "29" is THAT BITCH in terms of helping us to realize what an incredible set of divorce songs was coming our way (we had a hunch after "Next Girl", but I definitely remember "29" taking it to the next level upon release, lmao.) That being said, this one never screamed radio appeal to me the way that "Never Wanted To Be That Girl" and "What He Didn't Do" did/do, and has definitely been eclipsed by those on my list of favorites, so I never expected it to be a contender to win.
But to be passed by "Should've Known Better"?!!?! That's a surprise. And not a particularly unwelcome one! SKB has always been one of my favorites as well! It's one of the more immediate melodies on the album for me Surely it won't get any further, lmao, so I'm thrilled to see it be top 3!!

SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER IN THE TOP 3!? HELL TO THE YES. That one is truly the hit that got away, see it’s huge Spotify numbers despite still being an album track.
I fully think it’s out next, because I can’t see it sneaking ahead of the other two, but color me shocked.

I sound like a broken record, but my #9 for “Should’ve Known Better” is only indicative of the immense quality of this album. It truly was torture doing this rankdown; I would’ve been happy with literally any Top 5–or Top 2, for that matter. Needless to say, I’m happy with this Top 2 no matter the outcome!

Ooo, it was CLOSE too! "Should've Known Better" just never fails to get stuck in my head. That melody's got some staying power! I can definitely see where it is not everyone's cup of tea, but I will say that this is one that I will be rooting for if they go for a 4th single from this project. It would be a slight change of pace compared to the relatively similar vibes given off by both NWTBTG and WHDD.

Rooting for little Miss. What He Didn’t Do. Still remember the day she first performed it at the listening room when it was unreleased and thought “this is a hit,” now look at it. Feel super connected to it.
I’m aware the duet is a pulse favorite, so I won’t be surprised if that one takes it.

Well Should've Known Better isn't a bad song per se, but I have always dislike the vocal at the chorus where she does "should've known better than thaAaAat". Maybe I should have ranked the title track higher...

Expected and perfect top 2. I predict these would be #1 of 2022 and 2023 YE Country RD, respectively.

Wait, REALLY!?!?!?? Even with a 10-position tanking from Kanenrá:ke?! I'm blown away! "What He Didn't Do" and "Never Wanted To Be That Girl" are both such great songs, but I definitely have fallen even harder for WHDD The hook is just so clever and well-written, and hits harder than anything she has ever recorded or probably ever will record again, tbh. NWTBTG is the classic cheating ballad that we always need more of in country music, and I'm so glad it became the massive success that it was. But at the same time, plenty of women have done NWTBTG even better before, but nobody has ever done a song quite like "What He Didn't Do" as far as I know. So it was an easy #1 for me!
