Wish M5 would just deliver a fucking pop banger, they've made bangers like Moves Like Jagger and This Summer so obviously they can make a bop, but their stuff in the past 5 years has been this minimalist bullshit.

But anyway, they are doing great at staying current by working with current artists which will continue I think as long as current artists will work with them

The changes will take effect with the charts dated March 27.
Streams of officially licensed music videos on Facebook, which were added to the social platform on Aug. 1, 2020, in the U.S., will soon be factored into the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200, Artist 100 and Billboard Global 200 charts, as well as all other charts that incorporate streaming data, it was announced Wednesday.
The changes will take effect with the charts dated March 27, reflecting sales and streams from March 12-18. Only data from officially licensed music videos will be factored in, with user-generated content excluded from the tallies. Facebook video plays are categorized as ad-supported on-demand streams and represent U.S.-based activity only. Within MRC Dataβs Music Connect platform, Facebook videos will be included among On-Demand Video totals, with the data visible beginning with activity on March 5.
This is just the latest push to incorporate video streams into official chart rankings. In February 2013, Billboard began factoring YouTube streams (including user-generated content) into its song-specific charts, followed by the addition of officially licensed music video streams (excluding UGC) into the album charts in January 2020.
"Music availability and consumption continues to increase at a remarkable rate and the industry has seen incredible innovation across many digital platforms," said Silvio Pietroluongo, senior vp, charts & data development for MRC Data and Billboard. "We are excited to announce the inclusion of Facebook's U.S. Premium Music Video streams to Music Connect and to Billboardβs charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and Billboard Global 200, further expanding the most comprehensive view of music consumption and trends impacting the business."
"Artists deserve recognition in music charts for the social capital they drive and the social discovery they fuel," added Tamara Hrivnak, vp of business development and partnerships at Facebook. "Adding music video plays on Facebook to the Billboard charts is an important step in the right direction."
Hrivnak continued, "On Facebook, music videos represent so much more than just the video itself -- itβs about creating a new channel for social experiences around music so you can discover a new artist from a music video shared by an artist you follow or a friend in News Feed, connect with other fans who share your passion in a Facebook Group dedicated to your favorite artist, and react to a video in real time as it premieres, all on the same platform."
Recent examples of high-performing music videos on Facebook include Alicia Keysβ βLove Looks Betterβ as well as exclusive premieres from Karol G (βBichotaβ), Sam Smith (βThe Lighthouse Keeperβ) and Phoebe Bridgers (βSavior Complexβ). All were boosted by heavy involvement from the artists themselves, who took part in a variety of interest-drivers including live sessions on both Facebook and Instagram, comment thread engagement with fans and custom stickers and effects, among other elements.
Forthcoming exclusive premieres on Facebook include music videos from Juicy J, Becky G and Common.
"Music videos on Facebook are unique because they enable fans to build community around the artists, songs, and content that they love," Hrivnak added. "The music videos that tend to perform best are often ignited by a spark - by an artist engaging with their community on Facebook, or a public figure sharing their favorite video - that inspires fans to engage, comment, and share with their friends."
Facebook tells Billboard that the discovery and sharing of music videos on the platform is fostered in a variety of ways. New releases are displayed in usersβ news feeds based on the artists and labels they follow and are also easily found through search and official artist pages. In Facebook Watch, videos are surfaced according to the artists a user follows, with the experience personalized over time based on the content they engage with.

I wonder if they will change the formula with the new addition of Facebook streams like they did when Pandora was first counted in 2017, or if it will be a Audiomack situation where they add Facebook streams and the formula stays the same.

I don't think they need to adjust the formula because streaming probably will be weaker than when UGC was counted (September 2020). The week when they removed UGC, WAP lost ~3 million streams (~5% of its streaming total) and most songs with 10-20 million streams lost about 5-8%.
Average streams for the #1 song on Billboard's Streaming Songs chart since 2016:
2016 - 31.4M 2017 - 51.7M (Pandora added in February) 2018 - 59.8M 2019 - 65.0M 2020 - 43.9M (YouTube UGC removed partially in January and completely in September)

I feel like this change will most directly affect first-week numbers for new songs, especially from big-name artists, moreso than anything else. I don't think Facebook is used as much (for video viewing) on a regular week-to-week basis as YouTube is, and their audience probably skews older too.

I just looked and if I am viewing it correctly, these videos don't have much views at all. It seems like the popular videos lean more towards latin songs. Although for whatever reason, Katy Perry's Smile has 44.9m views which is way more than other videos.

The one song that would have benefited from this rule back in its day is "Piece by Piece" by Kelly Clarkson. That Idol performance view got millions of view on Facebook. Having said that, it does come down to how the views are vetted and such.

That's not going to work either. Remember, before 2020, people complained that streaming was being weighed too heavy. If it were up to me, I'd leaving radio and streaming alone because that is not the real problem. The first thing I'd do is eliminate website sales from the formula. That alone would make the Hot 100 look much more respectable.

I feel like that was a one time thing in their career. #1 hits like Makes Me Wonder, Moves Like Jagger, and One More Night invalidates this whole one time thing. In fact, I'd even argue that MMW and MLJ were bigger at their peaks than GLY. OMN and GLY are long-running #1's that benefitted/took advantage of weak competition. A one time thing would be like what Truth Hurts was for Lizzo.
