This song kind of reaffirms how overrated Cruel Summer is. Please stream it again to cleanse your aura (and ears).

Around 28 hours after release, this is sitting at #36 on Apple Music and #5 on iTunes. It also debuted at #15 on Spotify with 12 hours of tracking.
For reference, here's where "drivers license" debuted on Spotify.
And here's how "deja vu" did with 12 hours.

Tbh a simple top 10 directly following the first smash won't make the One hit wonder term go away (people applied it to Lil Nas X in spite of "Panini" until his latest song blew up, and you'll find people who apply it to Carly Rae and Lorde in spite of "One Time" and "Team" existing). I really like this but I do get that vibe that it's gonna peak around #8 quickly and go away. I hope she has the follow-up ready for album release. Or that this song proves me wrong and lasts on the charts. I can agree with this comparison. It doesn’t help that the song is called “Deja Vu” because it certainly feels like a “Drivers License Part 2.” If this song performs like how “Panini” did, people will def refer to her as a one-trick pony. She’ll need to find something else in the toolbox.

This song kind of reaffirms how overrated Cruel Summer is. lol "deja vu" looks like it held up pretty well in comparison to DL. hopefully it can hold its own on the hot 100 as well.

I quite like the song. Cruel Summer, since everyone is comparing this to, is the superior song, but this is quite good.

Another Lorde sounding track, but it’s still nice nonetheless. Good next step for her IMO.

I honestly don’t get the ‘Cruel Summer’ comparisons because the two songs mashed together sound like a f**king mess. I think it’s grasping at straws.
This sounds like a DL retread, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great. ‘Don’t Forget About Us’ was a ‘We Belong Together’ retread and I’d argue both are great.
Edit: oh a ‘Cruel Summer’ is wonderful and deserving of all praise

this is definitely underperforming. I'm not surprised. I also think this will get a lower Top 10 peak, hover for a bit, then collapse and be forgotten rather quickly.

"Summer of 69" of all things is currently #8 on iTunes and "Dreams" is still top ten despite no longer being trendy on TikTok anymore. I don't think we should be concerned about a song falling one spot on that platform in 2021. The only relevance that platform has these days is when something manages to have a larger draw at the very top for an extended period of time, such as a new Taylor Swift or BTS song managing 75k copies instead of the standard like 25k the #1 usually gets.

Taylor's "Cruel Summer" is often brought up around here like it's a masterpiece of sorts, so I feel obliged to seek it out each time. It's basically a "cr-oooo-ahhh" sounding chorus with a really annoying drum kit and underwhelming synths. Completely forgettable. I wish I had better music taste, sorry Taylor stans. :'(
They're both basic becky af, but I do feel "Deja Vu" is more memorable. Btw, I also don't get the comparisons between the two...

I think the only similar portion between this and "cruel summer" is the bridge—the style in which it's delivered. that's about it though. and as Fantano mentions in his review, it's an overdone concept at this point. Taylor herself used it in her past records. "Out of the Woods" comes to mind.

Top 50 on pop.
-- 43 OLIVIA RODRIGO deja vu 596 0 596 3.365
I wasn't quite sold on this on first listen but it does pick up after the first chorus. I can see this being a grower for me. Also want to echo that the "Cruel Summer" comparison is literally just the bridge but it's so similar in style for that part that I can see why people would cite "Cruel Summer" as what this song reminds them of as a whole.

Yeah, just listened for a second time and I love it now.
Prefer it over Drivers License.

I have just listened to this and the last minute or so reminds of Taylegend's Cruel Summer. I don't listen to Cruel Summer because I want it to remain forever special for me, so I'll have to never again listen to this song. Hopefully she slays, I love Driver's License <3

You are correct and being a big chart nerd for the last 34 years it used to drive me NUTS watching all those 1 Hit Wonder specials Having to yell at the tv. BUT there second single peaked at num.9 for a week!!! That was an extreme case but there were plenty of times I was annoyed that they forgot about the num.18 peaking song an artist also had for a week or 2 (hello longevity). lol. The struggle of a chart nerd......

In most cases the first song was way too big for the followup to flop too much, and yet those songs more or less live in the shadow of the first, bigger smash so people ignore them.
Like before OTR, Billy Ray Cyrus' best claim to not be a one hit wonder was a Hannah Montana duet that peaked at like #34 for a week. The average listener will not care.

I love this and hope it has success. Btw Cruel Summer one of the best songs of 2019 easily. Obviously should have been the lead single but we all know that.
But I'm also pretty uncomfortable this made top 50 on pop radio before CMBYN. Just kind of...blatant homophobia. Very gross.

This is cute but not very catchy and also, anything on Melodrama is better than this.
