LBTrocks + .indulgecountry This was kinda experimental, so I made a list trying to balance "male and female"/"traditional and pop"/"popular name and minor name." For the next volume (coming up in summer), I am wondering whether I should keep it the same way, or change the balance and add more traditional/female/popular songs etc. Alternative ideas I have is "10 Texas vs 10 females" or something like that. So I honestly have no idea how to answer most of these prediction questions because these results are going to be totally unpredictable... But I can say that my favorite discovery was "It's Not Just Me" by Ward Thomas  Such a powerful and catchy melody, that sounds like it could be a HUGE hit if somebody like Maddie & Tae got their hands on it!!! Edit: Also Kimberly Dunn had such a Miranda vibe about her  The song might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it more every time I listened to it! |

CLD's Thought While I admit that I sometimes enjoy this, I included this half as a joke, and this was the first and only time you rank a country rap song. While I don't like rap music in general, there are a few country rap songs that I can tolerate. This is definitely the only tolerable material by Upchurch. Also, didn't know that Upchurch has 2M subscribers in YouTube...

#19 Jojo Mason - As If We Won't

Chart Performance: #20 in BB Canada Country Chart This is one of the songs that I excluded from 2020 Country RD, but joined here. Jojo Mason is the most successful black country artist in Canada, alongside with Sacha. His material is focusing on the fusion of R&B and Country.[/span][/div]
CLD's Thought While I love Jojo, and he's awesome as a person, this was not his best material. Chorus melody could have been better + his previous/follow-up singles were better. You will see his better songs in 2019 Country RD.

Brad Cox is one of the regular hit makers in the Australian Country Airplay scene. Strong vocal and rock infused instrumental production is his signature.
CLD's Thought This song is not bad, and the verse is quite nice, but the chorus could've been stronger. Lyrically far better than his previous single "Drinking Season" It will be nice to see some Australians in the US, but not sure Brad Cox is the one. (I do enjoy all the songs in my RD to some extent, so #19 doesn't mean I didn't like this)
We are losing team Texas now, and #1 loss is coming up!!

Wow you all did the Jojo Mason song dirty! Not sure I'd revisit it much, but it was super catchy!
Ok hold on to your hat folks but I love Ryan Upchurch lol. Not every thing he does, and "Everlasting Country" doesn't do much for me, but he has a few songs I actually really love ("Pond Creek Road," "Bells," & "Shoulda Named It After Me" come to mind off the top of my head) and he's quite a character lol I love watching his YouTube channel! And I also happen to think he is hot AF which is a nice bonus for me lol. So yeah, I love him, but not everything he does, and certainly not "Everlasting Country"

🌺CountryLineDancer I just read your take on Upchuch and I'm low-key not here for this Upchurch shade 😂 definitely look up the songs I mentioned! I also knew of his YouTube channel and his subscriber count but regardless I'm not surprised he has that many subscribers, given his personality and his rather large following from the music he's released. He's not popular with the mainstream crowd, but that is pretty much his choice at this point.... he turned Scott Borchetta down, who wanted to offer him a record deal...

He is the regular winner of Country Music Award of Australia, since late 1990s. While not as popular as Brad Cox, his music is still getting decent airplay in Australia. Not sure about his career in the US.
CLD's Thought I enjoy the instrumental production and the mood of this song, but I don't like his vocal much. He is in the late 40s, but his voice sounds much older. I still appreciate his music, as he keeps traditional sound in Australian Country Music scene. |
