well, that's unfortunateย :kii: Why is Billboard having back door conversations with talent regarding the charts, before itโs officially released. The entire thing seems shady. I mean they get the stats before we do. that's how it's been for decades now.

and, well, charting directly affects the lives of "talent."
stans don't have to yell and fight about chart positions; if they didn't do it, nothing of value would be lost.

The only thing i could think of that they're rolling out a whole new GOAT list because of the fact that Blinding Lights is about to become the biggest song (by their metrics) of all time I think I read somewhere that they are definitely aware that there are lots of fan accounts out there running predictor models such as this. Some are obviously better than others of course but because some models show that, does not mean they have even bothered to check themselves. I would not expect a new GOAT list until summer 2023. (65th chart anniversary)

Finally it is now the biggest song on Billboard Hot 100's G.O.A.T list! It's chart run is really amazing and iconic!

I think i may have been the cause of blinding lights and its chart performance all along. I said i wanted a weeknd song to top the year end and at least make the all time list. My wish definitely did overtime and also did a whole sweep on the top 5/10/20/40/100 and decade end charts as well.

Shame that Rod Wave couldnโt quite get Tombstone to the top 10, but Iโm happy that it outpeaked Rags2Riches to become his biggest hit to date. Also, with Street Runner surging up to #16, a song that samples Ruth B has now outpeaked her only hit Lost Boy (#24 in 2016). Has this ever happened in the (recent) past, where an artistโs uncredited vocals/sample ends up in a hit thatโs bigger than their biggest Hot 100 entry? Interestingly enough, this precise thing happened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers when Crazy Town's "Butterfly" hit #1, while the RHCP has had their biggest hit with the #2 song "Under The Bridge."

(65th chart anniversary) I think the next all-time list will be much sooner than summer 2023. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to do it during the 64th anniversary in summer 2022. The number 65 isn't really anything special. 64 is a power of 2. I wouldn't even be surprised if a new GOAT list is done immediately after Blinding Lights and Mood fall off the chart.

Maybe, the prior releases of GOAT lists 1994 (100th anniversary of the magizine) 1998 (40th Hot 100) 2008 (50th Hot 100) 2013 (55th Hot 100) 2018 (60th Hot 100)
Then they snuck an update in in October 2015
So maybe....

Also the fourth straight week for a new 1-week #1 song. Wonder how many times this has happened in the Soundscan era? Do you still consider us as being in the Soundscan era? In 2020 we had five in a row. 2010 is funny because there was a run where for 5 weeks in a row each 5 different songs were #1, but "Like A G6" was one of those songs and had already been to #1. Prior to that you'd have to go all the way back to 1990 (i.e. pre-Soundscan). Yeah I would still consider us in the Soundscan era, because even though they transitioned to MRC Data, it's still basically the same company with similar tracking methods. And thanks for the examples.
In terms of the 2010-Like A G6 example, I guess a long streak of 1-week different number ones is still impressive, even if some of them had or would go on to rack up additional weeks on top, but I guess the most impressive version of the statistic would be if they were only #1 for that one, unique week. It's interesting that we are living in a time with these two contrasting tendencies, that though we are still seeing increasing longevity for many songs, i.e. Blinding Lights/Mood/Circles, etc., there are many other songs making quick splashes at the top and brief runs that resemble most of the songs during the pre-Soundscan days.

Nine Inch Nails were sampled on "Old Town Road". NIN themselves never got higher than #17. Ciara's "Love Sex Magic" was sampled on Roddy Rich's "The Box". While her debut hit "Goodies" was number one for 7 weeks that's still less than the 11 weeks on top "The Box" got.I don't think this is true? I decided to look up Wikipedia about this, and what I got is that, while people did point out similarities between both songs that even the producer of "The Box" (30 Roc) acknowledged, he also said he wasn't actually sampling "Love Sex Magic", meaning the similarities were probably just a coincidence.

I just meant the introduction of Soundscan (and thus the era) was related more to the scanning of physical product when you purchased it and thus we had more accurate sales information, but physical product is basically obsolete now. While Soundscan is still around, for me it doesn't mean what it did then and isn't the same kind of era as we had in the 90s and early 00s. I'd say we are now in the streaming era. But that's just me.

The success of Peaches really hides the fact that all other Bieber songs released with the album bombed hard (even Hold On and Anyone are struggling).

'A girl like me' has had a pretty good run. The song is pretty awful but it's great to see Shakira still charting in 2021.
