The title is definitely a little too on the nose and I canβt tell if that video was intended to be as campy as it turned out, but the song isnβt bad. Itβs just short as hell. Thereβs no justifiable reason for this to not have a bridge and a proper final chorus, that trendβs gotta go.
I actually did like the religious imagery here but taking Satanβs nut wasnβt exactly what I would call subtle.

Iβm living for this, but Iβm starting to get anxious over the reactions. Iβm afraid this will rule Fox News & the social media accounts of Candice Owens and Ben Shapiro. Leave us ALONE
Beside that, this song slaps and the MV is wonderfully insane.

That instrumental as a bridge in the audio of the video was perfect.

Why do people place so much importance on what she has to say about stuff? I mean, who is she even? What has she done? These people take up way too much space in her brain and it's clouding her judgment. If we stop freaking out over everything she freaks out about, she will go away and join a nunnery or something.

He looks to not care what public is thinking about him, this video is like coming out for the second time.

I suppose youβre right. Sheβs just slammed into my feed whenever she says something, even though I try to avoid it. It just takes a lot of emotional bandwidth

Montero really edged his fanbase for over 2/3 of a year just for this song to not even be 2 1/2 minute long.
But it fucking slaps so I can't even be mad.

The chorus is so good it almost overshadows everything else, but Iβm worried the video is going to dominate the discussion and it wonβt get its chance to shine.
Itβs deliberately short because the chorus is that damn addicting. I restate my thinking that this chorus is just as addicting as Closer by the Chainsmokers

Uh...he ate this up. The song and video are straight fire. Who else is serving visuals like this in 2021??? Or at least what male artist? Really good.

I'm not feeling the song either and I feel like the video will overshadow it, but I'm no expert.
I do feel like he deliberately went nuclear with this video because Holiday flopped. It's a crucial point bc there's only so many underperformers you can have before people stop paying attention, so he said let me get some headlines.

The video is tacky and ridiculous. So of course I'm on board for it.
The song sucks unfortunately. I want to root for him so bad, but he just cannot get his music together.

He looks to not care what public is thinking about him, this video is like coming out for the second time. Which public? The public who would already hate him because heβs gay, the public who would already hate him because heβs black? Not everything has to appeal to the widest audience possible.

Is the song in the video longer than the one on streaming? I think it has an additional chorus at the end as it feels more complete.

Iβm living for this, but Iβm starting to get anxious over the reactions. Iβm afraid this will rule Fox News & the social media accounts of Candice Owens and Ben Shapiro. Leave us ALONE Beside that, this song slaps and the MV is wonderfully insane. Tbh, this would only help the song gain popularity. Remember WAP? Eh, I donβt think comparing this to βWAPβ works. I might be splitting hairs here but βWAPβ had such a massive impact because the song and video worked so well together, but one could exist without the other and still hit. Even if you werenβt watching Cardi and Megan pop their pussy on YouTube, the song still kept that energy. βMONTEROβ doesnβt have the same effect; watching lnx bust it open for Beelzebub is going to generate some curiosity streams for sure, but the song itself is comparatively pretty tame. I donβt know if people will come back for it. The usage of religious imagery also puts this in very different territory. Iβd almost compare it more to βAlejandroβ or βJudas,β but Gaga had so much momentum that she could get away with both despite the insane amount of backlash she got. lnx doesnβt quite have that. Iβm really curious how this will do, but I donβt think this is going to be his βLike a Prayerβ moment. Is the song in the video longer than the one on streaming? I think it has an additional chorus at the end as it feels more complete. It adds a βbridgeβ with the instrumental.

I really like it but the song is way too damn short.
It feels like he has this inability of doing a song thatβs past 2:15.

This is really great but I agree that it's too short. Like, almost to the point where it's just two hooks cycled twice? Hot 100 songs have been getting shorter since streaming rose to prominence, but we have to be nearing the floor here. I can't help but wonder if a minimum length rule for the Hot 100 is in place by 2022.
It is a great encapsulation of the moment in the way that it is co-existing as a TikTok, a viral video, and a song, but in that order.

No offense but I don't think Fox News/Conservative media is gonna care that much about this song and video like they did with WAP, Cardi is just on a whole 'nother level than Nas X in terms of popularity and WAP was a huge event single. I like the song and video, but I don't think it'll get that Cadence Owen boost like WAP or UP.
Also Cardi already sparred with Conservative media many times before WAP, that song was just the cumulative of years of Cardi getting yelled at by idiots.

I donβt think itβll get the response from the right that WAP did but only because womenβs sexuality/feminism is more of a threat to them than gay stuff, because the right already has some control over how gays are perceived/treated whereas womenβs issues have a wider reach. ...if any of that makes sense? Maybe it doesnβt.
I also think Cardi was taken more seriously than Nas X is when WAP came out, and that increased the threat level of WAP. But I also think X is underestimated in how much of an impact his messages could have. Beneath the trolling and humour, I think thereβs a lot in his stuff, particularly in the videos (not as much the songs) that could be embraced as empowering.
At any rate, Iβm waiting for the people who think nas x should be raising their kids the way Cardi should have been. Sex = bad. Gay sex = π€―. If this song has any impact after the first week, the responses will come then. It just has to be seen and circulated for anyone to care enough to respond.
