I've always wanted to like "The Real Thing" more than I do, but I don't know...there's just something about it that makes me not apt to revisit it much. For whatever reason I do remember this song getting talked about quite a bit when the album was released, but for the life of me I can't remember why. It was likely something along the same lines of the conversation surrounding "Murder on Music Row" though.

By the way, I think this is the first time in rankdown history that we made it through the entire bottom 5 with only ONE person losing their last place There were some questionable as fuq last places between the lot of you, lmao.

With "He's Got That Something Special", Twang is now the 3rd album in a row to lose a second song! Out of the 6 songs we have lost, three albums have taken on 100% of the losses, lol.
Ironically, Twang continues its trend of the songs going out in the reverse order here from how they went in the album rd, as this was the second-highest album track when we did that rankdown!

Questions to get us started: 8. George Strait and Twang bookended this decade. Which album will do better?
Well, I think we already have a good idea as to the answer to this question! I'm honestly not at all surprised that George Strait has thus far remained unscathed (I just hope I didn't jinx that!).

Again?! I meant second-highest Still, what a reverse order for them to go out on! "He's Got That Something Special" is a bit of an earworm with a catchy melody, so that's why I slide it into my top 30. Wouldn't have taken it to leave this early though as again I was basing some of my projections on how well the songs performed in their respective album rankdown. Alright, get us to the top 30!

It Just Comes Natural is such a superb album that almost all of the album tracks could've been included here. I'm quite disappointed to see "That's My Kind of Woman" leave already because George's delivery on this is like a fine wine. And two rankings for last place?! Oy vey.

This is a shitshow. Twang and Troubadour are being done dirty.
Let's get some George Strait tracks out of here and some more from The Road Less Traveled.

Ugh, It Just Comes Natural deserved to be the album that gets to the top 15 before it starts losing songs..... I understand why "That's My Kind Of Woman" wouldn't be something that most of you feel on a lyrical level as much as I do, but the overall vibe of this song is just soooooo cool! It's a unique vibe that literally nothing else in his career has ever matched. I would describe it as sounding dark and warm, but I'm not even quite sure if that gets all the way to the essence of the feeling I get when I'm listening to it... The instrumental arrangement, the lyrics, the vocal arrangement, etc. all just work together so perfectly to make me feel so calm and relaxed. It was heartbreaking for me to see all the hate keep rolling in for this one... On the plus side for LBTrocks and taylor, two more people finally lost their last places!

Suffice to say that I remember loving this from the first moment I heard it and it has always stood out to me as something very unique. I just love listening to this song so much.

wtf. "The Middle of Nowhere" is breathtaking. I get this is a stacked RD but geez guys! Out WAY too soon. "The Real Thing" also got done extremely dirty, the vocal arrangement is fantastic and I love everything about the instrumentation as well. And if those two songs being out already wasn't bad enough, y'all get rid of "He's Got That Something Special" next. Again. Killer melody and instrumentation. Mess!

This is going surprisingly well so far, with the glaring exception of "The Real Thing" being out already. The chorus melody of that one is off the charts good. Plus I've always enjoyed the lyrics and the different spin on the subject matter. It's actually a song I revisit more than some of the singles from that album.

Kicking off our top 30, we lose our first track from George's decade-starting self-titled album! "Home Improvement" is a catchy uptempo jam (one of the few on this album, tbh), but also doesn't quite have as much substance or catchiness as his catchy uptempos normally do. At least in my opinion, lol. This is one I enjoy when it is on, but I definitely don't ever think of it as being among his best of all time. So I'm fine seeing it leave here! I'm actually happy that this is the first representative from his s/t album to leave. tim and I both got perfect rankings!

Well, I wasn't planning on staying up lol....but you rang! And I see Pulse's two biggest Strait Stans kick off the top 30 in unison as it should be. I've always had mixed thoughts about "Home Improvement"...on one hand I enjoy it for what it is as I actually thought they were going to release it as a single and seems like it would've made for a better choice than "Don't Make Me Come Over There and Love You". On the other hand, I often find myself wanting to skip over this whenever I revisit the album and I'm not even quite sure why.

"Good News, Bad News" offers a very unique lyrical perspective at least! The song is formatted with George portraying a man who basically walked out on his lady and was like "I need to find myself", only to realize that he loved her after all and he was calling to tell her the good news......only for her to be like "well this is awkward, because I realized I didn't actually need you after you left so I fell in love with somebody else..."
However, from a melodic standpoint, while this song is right in Lee Ann Womack's wheelhouse, it's a bit maudlin to stand out alongside George's catalog.

Speaking for myself, actually sitting down and listening to "Good News, Bad News" is a real investment as it takes quite a while before I feel like the song gets going. And honestly that doesn't happen for me until the last quarter of the song. I really struggled with what to put into last place and because I just have no desire to really ever revisit this one it made the most since to put it in that spot. That said, I love how Lee Ann and George sound together and it's obvious there's a mutual respect between them.
