Speaking of another song that was hard for me to rank, "Beautiful Day For Goodbye" was certainly one of those as I admittedly had it down in last place initially. I realized the error of my ways though and asked our host to correct that lol. Anyways, this is a song that I feel like I personally underappreciate for whatever reason as I guess it's another example of a song that takes an investment. I suppose the song is just a bit too slow for me at times, but otherwise George sounds so great on the chorus.

With the exit of "Beautiful Day For Goodbye", Twang is now the first album to lose three songs!
This album has never been anywhere near my favorites from him, so to me it feels right that it seems to be the one getting screwed over the most in this rankdown.
That being said, "Beautiful Day For Goodbye" is definitely one of the main standouts from this album for me! This one is just classic George in every way. He wishes the weather weren't so perfect because it means his wife is more likely to leave him. He wants her to stay, and if it was raining and cold he might have an excuse to hold her close and beg her to stay! But since the weather's so perfect, it's a beautiful day for goodbye and he won't be able to convince her not to leave... It sounds corny to write it out, but with George's delivery it is one of the more poignant lyrical songs on this album.

"She Took The Wind From His Sails" is just such an unusual song from George!!! I had no idea what to expect from it here. Some people love it, and some people hate it, and I perfectly understand both sides. The production could be seen as ethereal to some and boring to others, the melody could be seen as haunting to some and monotonous to others, the falsetto vocals could be seen as a highlight of this entire playlist or as being really annoying, the story that it tells could be either really gripping or really far outside of people's interests... Lol this is one of those really bizarre songs where everything about it could be seen as both a pro and a con.
In the end, I'm just impressed it managed to make it this far!!!

Well, it made it further than I would've thought so I'm happy for that. "She Took The Wind From His Sails" remains one of the most peculiar album tracks of his entire career as nothing before it or after has sounded much like it. Even more so is that it was co-written by Dean Dillon. I've loved this song since I first heard it way back when and still find myself revisiting it to this day should the mood strike. This is such a well-written song that both the production and George's delivery bring life to.

I had made a mental list of each song that might leave prior to the top 20 and thus far each one of those have left the rankdwon. "Look Who's Back From Town" was the first song I pegged to leave from Honkytonkville which is unfortunate because it's also one of the strongest. In fact, this one has grown on me more and more over the years and each time I listen to it I find something else that I love about it.

5. Which album will be the last to lose a song?
Well, most people didn't interpret this question correctly ( gonecountry was the only one, lmao. Everyone else interpreted it to be "what album did the #1 come from", but I actually asked which album would be the last to lose any songs at all...) But anyway, the answer was Honkytonkville!!!! Heading into the top 26, Honkytonkville was the final album that had yet to lose a single song! That changed with the loss of "Look Who's Back From Town". This is a song that I have always loved more than most, so tbh I am actually kind of impressed with its performance here! The wordplay on the phrase "Look who's back in town" is just sooooo subtle and I love it. I also love the way George launches into the high notes in this chorus with such powerful gusto. (I swear, the modern A-list males just can NOT sing like this! Someone like Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean would sound boring af on this song, while George makes it come to life!)

Speaking of this song, I personally think George was drawn to it because of the memory of his late daughter Jenifer. I can't think of any other album where this song would fit in other than this one.

I’m glad to see that I caused both “Good News, Bad News” and “She Took the Wind From His Sails” to have a huge surge right at the end to be pushed into the Top 30. It’s what they deserved and more!!! Both are incredible songs and while ranking this list was actually quite an arduous undertaking, I knew I couldn’t justify having them outside my Top 10, including having the Lee Ann duet as my runner-up.

I actually saw people answering that question about the last album to lose a song incorrectly and almost said something. I mean, why would you need two questions asking you what you thought the winner would be? Also I'm almost mad I bothered to even do this RD last minute. These results are an absolute sham. I think I only have half my top 10 left at this point already but I'm too lazy to look at my list and check. But yeah, this is a total mess.

I'm scared to death to see the rest of this rankdown at this point. 😬 Not a great start to the top 30 for you!!! I saw "quoted by" in my notifications and thought for sure it was my #1, I refused to come check the thread. 😂 I know it's coming.

"Good News, Bad News" deserved a lot better than it did here. George and Lee Ann sound fantastic and the melancholy nature of the production and performances really sell this heartbreak of two people who wanted to be together but couldn't for various reasons. I love it and am sad that this is all it could muster

That's two losses in a row for the Honkytonkville album! The title track beat out "Look Who's Back From Town" by only 3 points to sneak into the top 25. "Honkytonkville" is a good song! However, imo it feels very average when pitted against his career bests... So I'm glad to see it going now. ClevelandRox probably doesn't feel that way though, as he loses yet another top 10!!! :(

"Easy As You Go" was one of those songs that people kinda propped up like it would be a great single when it was first released, but imo it has not aged as well as missed hit opportunities usually do. More than half of us put it in our top 20, so it is still relatively well liked, but it only had one top 10 rank, so it didn't have nearly enough high passion to do any better than this. With this reveal, Twang is now the first album to be down to just one song left! How much longer can "Arkansas Dave" last??

"Make Her Fall In Love With Me Song" missing the top 20 is a hard loss for me to swallow.... This has long been the biggest missed hit opportunity from the Troubadour album in my mind. It is SO catchy! Maybe a bit quirky too, but to me it is one of those songs where the catchiness and the quirkiness go perfectly hand in hand! This missing the top 20 here is just about equivalent to "Over You" missing the top 20 in Reba's '00s album tracks rd imo taylor did a lot of damage as the last person to submit, and this is just the first of many examples, lmao

With this reveal, Twang is now the first album to be down to just one song left! How much longer can "Arkansas Dave" last?? Well, the answer was, not much longer at all!!!! ;) "Arkansas Dave" beats "Easy As You Go" by 11 points and 2 positions, eliminating the entire Twang album before we get to the top 20!! This song struggled to make the album tracks rankdown at all as lists were coming in for the Twang album rankdown, which always baffled me. So I am glad to see it flip the script and become the highest song from that album here! I don't think it necessarily had a ton of hit potential in a 2009/2010 country radio landscape, but it is definitely one of the more important cornerstone songs from that album because of the fact that it was written by Bubba (George's son) on top of its memorable theme, and has come to be remembered as a fan favorite as well as a live favorite.

The title track of his Somewhere Down In Texas album is our final song to (tragically) miss the top 20!! I remember when this song came out and people were freaking out that it might be a retirement announcement Look at George stressing out his fans just for kicks and giggles!!! This song is not a retirement announcement however, it is merely yet another song celebrating his love for Texas. And it is universally relatable to everybody who loves Texas and wants to settle down there, even though the song is sung from the perspective of being a singer. Of course it would have been a great song for him to dust back off when it came time for his retirement tour! I'm still kinda shocked that he didn't. The REAL retirement anthem, "I'll Always Remember You", will of course be showing up in the 2010s album tracks rd :'( So get perched for that! With this elimination, It Just Comes Natural is now the final album to have 4 songs remaining
