'10s Album Tracks Rankdown: Results Time!
Time to get this one started!!! We got pretty much the same crew as last time, only gardyfan was able to join us again, bringing us to 11 :) So welcome back, everybody! Feel free to make some predictions for how this thing will go before we get started!!
Questions to get us started:
1. What will be the winner? 2. What other songs will make up the top 5? 3. What will be in last place? 4. Which other songs will make up the bottom 5? 5. Which album will be the first to be completely eliminated? 6. Which album will be the last to still have multiple songs remaining? 7. Which songs will be most/least polarizing? 8. Any other thoughts/predictions?

1. What will be the winner? "Some Nights" maybe? Everyone seems to salivate over that one.
2. What other songs will make up the top 5? A Showman's Life, That's What Breaking Hearts Do, When the Credits Roll, and Everything I See seem like they'd all be pretty high. I'll guess those.
3. What will be in last place? "Old Violin"
4. Which other songs will make up the bottom 5? Two More Wishes, Blue Water, Rock Paper Scissors, and House Across the Bay strike me as songs that will all be quite low.
5. Which album will be the first to be completely eliminated? Cold Beer Convo
6. Which album will be the last to still have multiple songs remaining? Love Is Everything
7. Which songs will be most/least polarizing? Most: Poison | Least: I'll Always Remember You
8. Any other thoughts/predictions? Let's get this going! Some reveals tonight?

We kick things off with a song from George's newest album. As you can see from the trajectory graph, while "Blue Water" was not a very strong competitor here, it was never actually in last place until Cody Wants Out... 's last place rank for it at the very end!! Personally I have always felt like this one is quite catchy, and was initially surprised to see it place so low on everyone's lists.....until I put my own list together and it only came in at #19! This list is just SO strong overall, lmao.

"House Across The Bay" has always been one of my favorites from Here For A Good Time. There is just something so relaxing about it, that perfectly conveys the feelings of nostalgia and longing that the narrator is feeling in the song. However, that is not quite enough to help it stand out in a playlist as strong as this, so I'm also not surprised to see it do so poorly here. It was our biggest last place contender, until Cody Wants Out... managed to save it from last place by one position at the very end with a bottom 4 rank vs. "Blue Water" getting his last place.

"Old Violin" cuts really deep in its introspective portrayal of a musician nearing the end of their career, and that is where this song generates most of its strength. "And just like that it hit me, why that old violin and I, we're just alike. We give our all to music, and soon we'll give our life..." has got to be one of the hardest hitting closing lines of his career, tbh.
That being said, this song does require a bit of a listening investment to feel its full impact, so it is no surprise that it would struggle to gain traction against most of this list. It did finish a full 20ish points higher than our bottom 2 did, so it was never realistically at risk of doing any worse than this.

It's already time for a third loss from Honky Tonk Time Machine, this time with "Two More Wishes" bowing out. This is the last place for yours truly, although it has grown on me quite a bit since the album came out! The first time I heard this I was really thrown off by the weird melody in the verses. I have always felt like this one was just a lackluster album cut compared to songs like "Honky Tonk Time Machine", "Some Nights", "Blue Water", "Take Me Away From Here", "God And Country Music", "Codigo," etc. that all have radio potential. Given all that, I am not even slightly surprised to see this end up in the bottom 5 even though it has grown on me, as the competition is getting really stiff really quickly at this point!

Those who wanted reveals barely seem to have stuck around for even one of them, so I'm going to quit there for the night and let everyone else get caught up! We'll resume tomorrow and see what else is going to miss the top 10

Those who wanted reveals barely seem to have stuck around for even one of them, so I'm going to quit there for the night and let everyone else get caught up! See, you should've just waited for me to be in attendance! I was surprised to see the reveals get started for this already as I would've made some predictions, but I have to admit that these are always quite unpredictable as it is anyways. As for the bottom 5, I'm glad to see that at least my last place song "House Across the Bay" exited as I just find that song hard to get into. In fact, I was just revisiting Here For A Good Time the other day and this was about the only song I found myself wanting to skip over. Speaking of last place, I wouldn't have guessed "Blue Water" to leave first as I likely would've predicted "House Across the Bay" to be out first. Even still, it was rather close overall as the bottom 2 were only separated by a point. It probably didn't help this songs chances that everyone was listening to this easy-breezy tune during December as it's more well-suited for spring/summer. I remember jamming out to this song on a road trip I took down to South Padre Island shortly after the album was released of which I had on repeat the entire time. I also would've predicted "Old Violin" to exit in the bottom 5 because as bboat11 mentioned, listening to the song is an investment and one that I think many are likely to skip over on the album because of that. I know that this is one of George's favorite songs from the album as he's continued to perform this live and has been for quite a few years already. "Two More Wishes" was one of the harder songs for me to rank as I kept second-guessing if it actually belonged in my bottom 3 or not. That said, no matter how many edits I made it always seemed to find itself in my bottom 5 no matter what, so in the end I just left it as is.

3. What will be in last place? " Old Violin"4. Which other songs will make up the bottom 5? Two More Wishes, Blue Water, Rock Paper Scissors, and House Across the Bay strike me as songs that will all be quite low.Didn't get "Old Violin" right as the #21 but so far I am 4/5 for bottom 5 predictions. I'm not super confident in going 5/5, but let's see. :kii:

So .indulgecountry indeed manages to go 5-for-5 with his bottom 5 predictions!! "Rock Paper Scissors" was not nearly as bad of a performer as anything else we have seen so far, as it started out as a top 10 contender, and really didn't even spend much time out of the top 15 until the last couple lists. This was one of my immediate favorites from the CBC album, as it has a really killer melody, and I love the guitar work. I do think the production is a bit weak, as imo Chuck Ainlay mixed it to be reeeeaaaaally loud in a way that also makes it sound a bit cheap, so I have found myself listening to it a bit less over time. But like I said, the melody is strong, and it is a nice unique song in George's extensive catalog.

Here For A Good Time rounds out the bottom 6 with its second loss. "Shame On Me" is a good song, but tbh I have always found it to be a bit on the 'average' side of things compared to many of the other uptempos that made this rankdown. So I am not at all surprised to see it leaving now, as to me it just cannot compare to much of what is left. Still love it though!

Wow, I wasn't at all expecting "Rock Paper Scissors" to exit already as I thought it was more well liked. I probably overshot my top 10 ranking for this just a tad, however, as I agree with bboat11 that the production is a bit too loud. I was hoping "Shame On Me" would be out sooner rather than later as it's definitely on the weaker side of everything else here.
