We kick this thing off with a song from the '80s, "I Should Have Watched That First Step". This may be kind of an average song compared to his all-time best album tracks that can be found further up this list, but it's still pretty darn great imo! The melody just goes down so easy. It's always been a standout for me on Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.
Edit: Also, I decided to forego the trajectory graphs for this rankdown. It's just unnecessary work considering that these album track rankdowns are always so freaking arbitrary! It's not like the trajectory has any meaning whatsoever when right up to the end individual lists could still push individual songs up or down by like 20 whole positions, lmao.

"Looking Out My Window Through The Pain" was also the #9 placer in the '00s rankdown just like "First Step" was #9 in the '80s rankdown! This song actually managed to be our least polarizing member of this Rankdown. It only got one bottom 10 rank, but it also didn't get a single top half rank, which is a pretty stunning accomplishment in a career filled with so many jams that nearly EVERY song has at least one high rank... Due to that lack of love, this one was never destined to do much better than the bottom 10.
I love the pun in the title! And I also love how the chorus picks up in tempo a bit from the verses. The only reason this is as low as it is on my list is because I have somewhat overplayed it for myself through the years... It doesn't quite hold up to repeat plays as well as some of the others in this rankdown for whatever reason.

"You Sure Got This Ol' Redneck Feelin' Blue" has always been one of my favorites from Something Special. There are some really engaging melodic moments in this song, especially the "This old country boy's hillbilly heart is breaking in two" line towards the end of the chorus. Something Special was loaded with missed single opportunities (seriously, how could they have wasted a spot on the boring title track?!?!! At least they got "The Chair" correct...), but this has always been one of the ones that I could particularly have imagined hearing on the radio. This was also one of our least polarizing songs, and the lack of high passion meant this was never going to do too much better than this. I think castleoblivion26 is doing the best so far, as this marks his second bottom 5 loss already, while most of us have just lost random middling ranks, lol. |

"Nobody Has To Get Hurt" is our first loss of the '90s! This bottom 5 has been quite well-balanced so far throughout his career!
Such a catchy melody! I have always felt like this was a hit that got away from the Lead On album. That whole chorus is perfectly designed for singing along. And I love how the arrangement helps this song to stand out as well. That intro lick is definitely one of my favorites from this whole album.
This was also our first tie-breaker of the rankdown, with this one beating "Redneck" due to my top 30 rank...
