I think "Levitating" is only eligible on remix form because the original was on the album that was already submitted last year, but I may be wrong.
In that case I'd say DaBaby dropped it from a surefire ROTY nominee to a longshot.

@dualipa There's still time to release a killer remix of "Levitating" with Megan Thee Stallion (By Demand). Or maybe release a live recording from Studio 2054.
It would suck to see such a massive and beloved hit getting snubbed due to the featured artist's bigotry exposed after the recording. It would also be the second Year-End #1 in a row to not get nominated anywhere.
However, given the Academy had no issue nominating "Say So" after honoring Kesha in 2018, I don't think they're going to care much. Hell, it's still possible Morgan Wallen might get some nods. Something we'll have to wait and see, I guess.

With Silk Sonic's album confirmed to drop next year, Olivia and Billie seem to be the frontrunners for AOTY (unless Kacey drops?)

I didn't do so well last year, but then again I don't think anyone did with the insane amount of unexpected nominees.
That being said, here are my annual early predictions.
Album of the Year Positions - Ariana Grande Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish Back of My Mind - H.E.R. Heaux Tales - Jazmine Sullivan Good News - Megan Thee Stallion Sour - Olivia Rodrigo Evermore - Taylor Swift Call Me If You Get Lost - Tyler the Creator
Honorable Mentions Starting Over - Chris Stapleton The Off-Season - J. Cole Chemtrails Over The Country Club - Lana Del Rey Daddy's Home - St. Vincent
(Montero is not being considered yet as it has not been released yet)
Record of the Year Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish Higher Power - Coldplay Kiss Me More - Doja Cat feat. SZA Bad Habits - Ed Sheeran Peaches - Justin Bieber feat. Daniel Caesar & Giveon Montero (Call Me By Your Name) - Lil Nas X Driver's License - Olivia Rodrigo Leave the Door Open - Silk Sonic
Honorable Mentions Positions – Ariana Grande Butter - BTS Levitating (Remix) - Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby Heartbreak Anniversary - Giveon
Song of the Year Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish Levitating (Remix) - Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby Heartbreak Anniversary - Giveon Pick Up Your Feelings - Jazmine Sullivan Driver's License - Olivia Rodrigo Leave the Door Open - Silk Sonic Good Days - SZA Willow - Taylor Swift
Honorable Mentions Bad Habits - Ed Sheeran Telepatia - Kali Uchis Montero (Call Me By Your Name) - Lil Nas X Save Your Tears - The Weeknd & Ariana Grande
Best New Artist Arlo Parks Glass Animals The Kid LAROI Olivia Rodrigo Polo G Saweetie Tate McRae Tenille Arts
Honorable Mentions Clairo Flo Milli Girl in Red Jimmie Allen
(Morgan Wallen would be in, but I don't think he will be nominated due to his personal problems possibly affecting Grammy voters)

I really hope "Good Days" gets its deserved recognition on the ROTY and SOTY categories, even if winning seems unlikely.
On a sad note, with the release date of Cardi B's sophomore effort still uncertain, I fear "WAP" won't even have a chance to be eligible at all, and that would be a crying shame.

I fully expect "Levitating" remix to get nominations, especially seeing as it was performed during the ceremony this year and went viral—so in theory, the Academy must be familiar with the song and its success. I will be rooting against a Dua win if it does happen, unfortunately. it's not like we ran out of good songs that don't feature raging homophobes.

I think "WAP" was actually eligible last year and they pushed it to this year on some technicality because they wanted it considered with the rest of the album, that is not coming any time soon I think. They need to send it to SOTY/ROTY and the like this year. Pushing it another year is not gonna help it at all.

these are the first records that came to mind as AOTY contenders to me (in order) (not my final predictions):
SOUR (Olivia Rodrigo): kind of a no brainer. she should easily get into all four general field categories. wondering which song/s they'll submit for SOTY/ROTY. MONTERO (Lil Nas X): I mean... they nominated his EP here and this album is getting rave reviews. would be surprised if it got snubbed. Happier Than Ever (Billie Eilish): their most recent ROTY winner, and a top four sweeper. voters know and like her, and the album is on par with her debut. Certified Lover Boy (Drake): his last two albums got in here, and I feel like this has a good shot. everyone and their brothers were talking about it. Evermore (Taylor Swift): don't think this has an actual shot at a win, but Swift is last year's winner, after all. a shoo-in for a nom. Back of My Mind (H.E.R.): personally did not care for much of what I've heard from this record, but it's HER, so... maybe I should move her up my list. Planet Her (Doja Cat): she's churning out hit after hit after hit, doing good promo. she lost all 3 noms last year but I think she's in even better shape now. Star-Crossed (Kacey Musgraves): giving her the edge over Chris Stapleton, but it was a tossup. my gut says Chris but my heart wants Kacey.
I have listed Chris Stapleton, Megan Thee Stallion, Jazmine Sullivan, Ariana Grande and Tyler, the Creator as other names in the running.
albums I'd love to see here, but will realistically only barely be considered for a nomination:
Jubilee (Japanese Breakfast) 333 (Tinashe) A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun (Aly & AJ) Sometimes I Might Be Introvert (Little Simz)

I like kim's list but I'm sure a couple of those will get sidelined in favour of random shit like some Coldplay EP as usual and some obscure act like BLACK PUMAS.
If it wasn't 8 slots I'd say evermore would be a lock for no nods. We'll see about that one. H.E.R. and Billie are semilocks to get nods because of their past success with these awards but tbh neither feels like they pushed the envelope much with their latest releases.

I see Tyler in the AOTY category this year. I’m not sure I see Doja Cat in it. Of all the vying top 40-centric records this year, I don’t feel like she has the most compelling case yet, versus the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Lil Nas X. And I absolutely see there being a limit on how many make that final cut, even though figuring out that capped number is always impossible to guess.
Stapleton could be a dark horse contender, too. I don’t think he’d win, but nominated? Sure. I could actually see a scenario where Stapleton, Swift, and Musgraves all make it in, creating a pretty big “country” presence (yeah yeah yeah genre definitions, I know).

There’s no secret committees this year so it’ll be interesting if H.E.R. gets in.

My current thoughts (in order): - Olivia Rodrigo - SOUR
- Lil Nas X - Montero
- Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever
- Chris Stapleton - Starting Over
- H.E.R. - Back of My Mind
- Tyler, The Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost
- Taylor Swift - evermore
- Foo Fighters - Medicine at Midnight
With honorable mentions for: Doja Cat, Kacey Musgraves, Megan Thee Stallion & Lana Del Rey. (if any of these get in, they will probably kick Taylor or Foo Fighters out).

It would be interesting to see more than one country artist getting nominated. I think Kacey's team will definitely campaign hard for the nomination, but I think Stapleton is in a better position right now to fill the "country slot" in AOTY. I have a feeling that "Star-crossed" existing in such a gray area genre-wise could gain her some voters from different genres but also could potentially alienate some of the country voting block.

I hope VanJess and Tinashe get some love but that's a long shot, especially the latter.
Overall though, after getting fed by my faves across 2020, there's not a lot for the 2021 Grammy period which excites me.

I could see Bieber sneaking in for AOTY -- he has the name recognition and numerous hits from the album, despite the mediocre quality. And the committee doesn't exist to filter him out this time. The Academy nominated for YUMMY last year, after all.

I don’t think evermore is the surefire AOTY nom everyone thinks it is. It very much felt like voters were honouring the “folkmore” era as a whole when they awarded AOTY to folklore at the last ceremony.

Surely Drake won't get an AOTY nom? It's not showing huge longevity on charts unit-wise, is yet to provide a smash hit and has 61 on Metacritic. Even Morgan Wallen has 72.
Only case I can see it in is that they decide to nominate all top 5 sellers of the year.

I don't think it needs a smash hit when 9 of the songs already went Top 10, lol. and Drake certainly doesn't need a "critically acclaimed" project to get into AOTY, as evidenced.

According to HDD, Mickey Guyton and TonyGaga are eligible. Very eager to see how they position Love for Sale, as it's the final album of such a Grammy icon.

Didn't the Grammys start rejecting sales numbers and charts positions?

Brandi Carlile coming out with the last-day-of-eligibility release, sitting at an 87 on Metacritic rn… She’s one to watch.

I think she has a great chance to be nominated for “Right on Time” in SotY and RotY, but I read that the album won't be eligible cause she doesn’t have any format of the album dropping before the deadline, only digital (and apparently, you need that in order to become eligible).

I was sure I saw somewhere about the deadline being pushed back. In case, if there was a hard headline of Thursday, I’d question why both Brandi and Love For Sale, two albums likely to receive Grammy attention, wouldn’t aim for this year’s eligibility. Neither can expect lengthy eras so waiting until the 2023 Grammys would be too long. Edit: www.grammy.com/grammys/awards/rules-guidelinesNo mention here so maybe not. Someone had mentioned something about time zones and the fact Friday releases are usually available at like 9 or 10pm in Pacific time zone.
