Wasn't My Universe released too late for consideration? Just saw that it got in on that last week.
What's everybody hearing on JB's Justice because I can't see why it would be an AOTY nominee on quality alone.

Wasn't My Universe released too late for consideration? Just saw that it got in on that last week. What's everybody hearing on JB's Justice because I can't see why it would be an AOTY nominee on quality alone.Main reason is pretty much this... /hj (good connections with the industry and voting members, basically)On a more serious note, here is the common train of thought: last year, "Yummy" managed to beat "Blinding Lights", "Circles", and "Stupid Love" on Pop Solo Perfomance, a category which doesn't have a committee, so results were determined on a straight vote. Same happened with "Changes" on Best Pop Vocal Album. That was a critically panned era and not even that commercially successful (bar "Intentions", whose nomination made more sense on that regard). Now in 2021, the infamous blue ribbon nomination committees have been removed, so the General Field nominees will also be determined on a straight vote. This puts Bieber at an immense advantage, especially considering that: 1) "Justice" was a massive improvement from "Changes" both commercially and especially critically. I haven't listened to either album in full, but it's noticeable on the singles alone. 2) The narrative - it's truly impressive how Bieber managed to rebound his public perception after the disaster that was the "Yummy" rollout, gathering two massive #1 hits in the process and being the most successful male artist of the year alongside Lil Nas X ( and Walnut, but let's leave that aside for now). 3) Grammy voters being lazy and going for namechecks. It was very common before the committee was installed (see MC Hammer getting an AOTY nomination), so the two factors above + his omnipresence during the voting period (through a documentary) will make him an easy choice. 4) 'Bieber' being early in the voting ballot. It has helped him post-"Purpose", and it should also benefit him this year too. That's it, really. We're not looking at it from a quality standpoint (even though it's a solid project, from what I've heard), but considering how the Grammys usually work as an institution. You always have the blockbuster record with subpar reception ("Teenage Dream", "Doo-Wops & Hooligans", "Views", "Scorpion" + "beerbongs & bentleys"), so it is likely "Justice" might make it. I don't see it winning, though, especially given the strong competition.

I hope this will be Lil’ Nas X’s year. He deserves a couple Grammys on him.

I could seriously see Lil Nas X walking away with AOTY. It’d be extremely deserving.

BNA was always Olivia Rodrigo's to lose, but since some of her stronger challengers are deemed ineligible (like Mickey Guyton, Jack Harlow, GIVEON, and even Bo Burnham), I am doubtful it will go to anyone else. Early congratulations are in order for Miss Rodrigo for her first Grammy win, lol. (Hope I don't jinx it!)

It baffles me how Ava Max and Lil Tecca are somehow eligible while 24kGoldn, Bo Burnham, Conan Gray, GIVEON, and Mickey Guyton aren't. Also, if they are counting Polo G (top 15 hit in 2019, #1 this year), Jack Harlow should also be considered (top 2 hit last year, #1 this year). Grammys being Grammys, I guess... Some promising names, though, even if Olivia Rodrigo is pretty much guaranteed to take the award, and deservedly so. (Edit: the less said about FINNEAS being eligible, the better )

Speaking of yet more mess during this Grammy cycle, I've been lurking on GoldDerby as a guest and it's been quite entertaining and chaotic to follow the reactions to submission reveals. Most notably, as some of you might already know, the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance went from one of the easiest to predict to an unpredictable mess, since "Levitating" (not submitted at all due to DaBaby's controversy), "Cold Heart" (only eligible for best remixed recording) "Peaches" (accepted into R&B), "INDUSTRY BABY" (submitted to melodic rap, understandably) are all out of the game. Most surprisingly, it seems The Kid LAROI's team didn't submit "Stay" to this category, going for the "WITHOUT YOU" remix instead (I don't object to it, since Miley greatly improves on the original, but a weird choice objectively given "Stay" 's massive success right now). Oh, and we have "Mood" (live) being eligible, alongside "Heat Waves" (live). source: www.billboard.com/articles/news/awards/9650846/2022-grammy-categories-hot-100-top-10-hits/Speaking of Miley Cyrus, she's apparently competing in rock this year, which does improve "Plastic Hearts" ' chances given how stacked Best Pop Vocal Album is this year. She really deserves at least a nomination, especially after "Midnight Sky" was snubbed in Best Pop Solo Performance last year (and we all know what was nominated instead). I'll be rooting for her! A few more highlights include Ariana Grande submitting "safety net" for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. I think it would have been more fitting for R&B, but just the fact she finally submitted a non-single makes me beyond happy. That would be a deserving namecheck. Also, no "Ain't Sh*t" nor "You Right" on Doja's submission list, but we have "Dick" and "Baby, I'm Jealous"! 😁 I was particularly disappointed Doja didn’t submit “Streets (Silhouette Remix)” in the R&B categories, since I believe it could have been nominated. Finally, "Need To Know" won't be competing on Best Pop Solo Performance, but on melodic instead, alongside "Best Friend, which leaves me conflicted, as I was hoping both would get their deserved recognition. Anyway, my apologies for the stream of consciousness vibes, but I was eager to share all this for those who might not be aware. Finally, here's a producer we might have to keep an eye for, especially after Andrew Watt's win over Jack Antonoff last year.

Brandi Carlile in…Pop? What in the actual f**k lmao It’s like pop has become the dumping ground for songs/albums that don’t fit in whatever restrictive boundaries they set for other genres. I wonder how much of it might have to do with her being a bigger name than most Americana artists, thereby giving her the edge to win. It kind of reminds me of when they revamped the Dance categories to not contain primarily pop artists with dance hits. The difference here is that, Brandi isn’t pop. It’s like the Recording Academy don’t believe pop is a genre in itself because even if they don’t think “Right On Time” is suitable for Americana for whatever reason, it’s certainly further from pop so they’re willingly being less accurate because of this.

That's very odd re: "Cold." It hasn't even been a single has it? Are they setting it up as the next single? It's especially odd since "YSPL" was submitted in Country Solo but not "Cold."

"Cold" actually charted on the Triple A and Adult Alternative charts and of course peaked in the Top 10 on both charts, Although it isn't officially counted as a single for some reason.

With Kacey, Taylor & Carrie Not Entered for Best Country Album, Who Will Be Nominated at 2022 Grammys? By Paul Grein 10/29/2021 Click to copy www.billboard.com/articles/news/awards/9652771/2022-grammys-best-country-album-nominations-contenders/
Eric Church, nominated for "Heart" at the CMA Awards, is competing with "Soul" at the Grammys. Since several strong candidates for 2022 Grammy nominations for best country album are not on the official entry list, for various reasons, slots have opened up for other artists. The Recording Academy ruled that Kacey Musgraves’ star-crossed is a better fit in best pop vocal album (where it is entered). Taylor Swift announced on July 20 that she wouldn’t submit Fearless (Taylor’s Version) for Grammy consideration, in part to keep her supporters’ focus on her evermore album (which is entered for best pop vocal album); the original Fearless won best country album and album of the year at the Grammy ceremony in early 2010. Musgraves and Swift have each received three Grammy nods for best country album. Musgraves won twice; Swift once. Another country titan, Carrie Underwood, will also not be in the category. Underwood’s Christmas album My Gift is vying for a nod as best traditional pop vocal album. Her sacred album My Savior is vying for a nod as best roots gospel album. Underwood, surprisingly, has yet to be nominated for best country album. Dolly Parton’s A Holly Dolly Christmas, which, like all the other previously named albums, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, is also vying for a nod as best traditional pop vocal album. So who’s left? For starters, three of the albums that are nominated for album of the year at the upcoming CMA Awards: Brothers Osborne’s Skeletons, Chris Stapleton’s Starting Over and Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album. The other CMA album of the year nominees are also represented here, but there are differences. Eric Church, nominated for Heart at the CMA Awards, is competing with Soul at the Grammys; both are part of his three-disc Heart & Soul project. Carly Pearce, nominated for her 29 EP at the CMA Awards, is entered here with her 29: Written in Stone full-length. (The full-length was released after the June 30 close of the CMA eligibility period.) Wallen’s album has topped Top Country Albums for 36 weeks, longer than any album since Luke Combs' What You See Is What You Get, which had 37 weeks on top from 2019-21. But Wallen has been under a cloud since TMZ aired a video in February of him using a racial slur. Stapleton’s album also reached No. 1 on Top Country Albums. Stapleton is a three-time nominee (and two-time winner) in this category. The Recording Academy first presented best country album at the 1964 awards -- though it was called best country & western album back then. Roger Miller was the winner. Miller also won the following year, after which the Grammys dropped the category. They brought it back at the 1994 awards. It has been presented continuously ever since. This year's Grammy entry list includes albums by several past nominees in this category. Miranda Lambert, a five-time nominee in this category, is entered with The Marfa Tapes, a collab with Jon Randall & Jack Ingram. She’s closing in on Trisha Yearwood’s record as the artist with the most nods in the category (eight). Alan Jackson, a four-time nominee in this category, is entered with Where Have You Gone. If he is nominated again, he’ll tie Willie Nelson and George Strait as the male artist with the most nods in this category. Three-time nominees Lady A are entered with What a Song Can Do (Chapter One). If they are nominated again, they’ll tie Dixie Chicks and Little Big Town as the only groups with four nods in this category. Three-time nominee Keith Urban is also entered with The Speed of Now Part 1. The album reached No. 1 on Top Country Albums early in the eligibility year (Sept. 1, 2020, to Sept. 30, 2021). Urban has received three nods in this category. Two-time nominees for best country album entered this year include Loretta Lynn (Still Woman Enough), Thomas Rhett (Country Again, Side A) and Blake Shelton (Body Language). One-time nominees who are entered include Kelsea Ballerini (Ballerini), Sturgill Simpson (The Ballad of Dood & Juanita) and Tanya Tucker (Live From the Troubadour). Several albums that are currently listed on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart are eligible. They include Walker Hayes’ Country Stuff EP, Lee Brice’s Hey World, Dan + Shay’s Good Things, Jordan Davis’ Buy Dirt EP, Nelly’s Heartland, HARDY’s A Rock, Chris Young’s Famous Friends, Parker McCollum’s Gold Chain Cowboy and Dustin Lynch’s Tullahoma. Nelly was nominated three times for best rap album, for Country Grammar (2000), Nellyville (2002) and Suit (2004). HARDY’s A Rock was released Sept. 4, 2020, on the fourth day of this eligibility period. Jimmie Allen and Mickey Guyton, who have helped lead Nashville’s drive to bring more racial diversity to country music, are entered with Bettie James Gold Edition and Remember Her Name, respectively. Other notable artists who are vying for a nod in the category include Cam (The Otherside), Florida Georgia Line (Life Rolls On) and Midland (The Last Resort). A total of 91 albums are competing for the five nomination slots. That tally of entries is down by one from last year. First-round Grammy voting opened on Oct. 22 and continues through Nov. 5. Nominations will be announced on Nov. 23. Final-round voting extends from Dec. 6 to Jan. 5, 2022. Winners will be announced at the 64th annual Grammy Awards telecast at Staples Center on Jan. 31, 2022.

In a way that makes it even more puzzling as they should have submitted "Cold" to the Rock categories and one of the country singles to the Country categories. Arkansas peaked at #38 in mainstream rock radio. This should have been the choice for rock submissions.

Country album nomination category is surprisingly competitive. As much as Eric Church wants to see him competing with himself it's unlikely here. It really depends on whether Grammys wants to give tribute to older artists (like Tanya Tucker's win back then) and nominate artists like Alan Jackson and Loretta Lynn, or push newer artists like Carly Pearce and Mickey Guyton. Stapleton's still on lock for nomination and win though.

Honestly, I don't see how Taylor would have been a contender for Best Country Album had she submitted "Fearless (Taylor's Version)". Seems ridiculous and frankly insulting to the other artists that the Academy would even consider nominating and let alone rewarding a re-recorded version of a beloved country classic that was already rightfully recognized in the past - though that would also apply to the underappreciated projects like "Speak Now" and "Taylor Swift" - as much as I love them.
I hope you can see where I'm coming from...there are so many great country albums released every year - from promising new acts to established legends (or those in the making), not to mention the underrated stuff that falls under the mainstream radar - and these deserve to be recognized for the mark they left in country music that year. Not to mention it could set a bad precedent for greedy artists to suddenly re-record classic work for easy awards.
Of course, thankfully, Taylor showed she's above this by not submitting the project at all - after all, the re-recordings are for her to regain ownership of her art, not for more award recognition. My comment was referring to the speculations set by the Billboard article and some Taylor stans, and how low it would be of the Grammys to accept a hypothetical submission. However, I wouldn't mind her submitting the Vault tracks, since they are new material to the general public.
