The 2011 Billboard Hot 100 Rankdown...Re-Do (Revealing)

I'm starting this thread so quickly in comparison to how long it took me to start the 2014 re-do, good lord.

A couple of things you should probably know:

- If you choose to submit, you have to send your lists/rankings to me (that's Red), fearlessarrow, AND wrip via PM. Yes, all three of us. Should be pretty straight-forward, but I've been involved in rankdowns in the past where people would submit to one co-host, but not the other(s). Don't make the same mistake. Your ranking may not be counted if you do not submit to all of us, though, with there being three hosts instead of two, I'll be slightly more understanding if you initially send to just one or two of us.

- This is the third in a series of Hot 100 rankdown re-dos that I've been looking at completing for a while now. There has been talk about looking into doing 2013 and 2010, as well, and those are definitely being considered, though they would only start after I take a bit of a break from hosting these re-dos.

- Please rank the songs from 1-100, 1 being your favorite and 100 your least favorite, You can choose to send your ranking with or without numbers, as long as they are in order from best to worst.

- Please, PLEASE try to rank songs according to your actual personal preference. I can't stress this enough. It feels like some people (not naming names...) have been tanking songs intentionally as a means of "strategy" and not just based on how much they enjoy or don't enjoy the songs, and I'm getting pretty tired of it. Just rank the songs based on how much you do or don't like them.

- In the 2002 Hot 100 rankdown, I "encouraged" people to send their lists/rankings with the songs formatted and typed as they were. This "encouragement" was lost in the shuffle, I guess, because I received quite a few submissions that did not follow the formatting, and it led to many, many mistakes. So, starting with the 2016 re-do, I made this change: You are required to send your lists/rankings to me, fearless, and wrip with the songs formatted and typed as they are below. If you do not do so, I will ask you to re-submit. If you do not re-submit by the deadline, your ranking will not be counted. This is harsh, I know, but if you took part in the 2002 and 2014 rankdowns, you know exactly why I'm still doing this. I do not want to deal with the same hassle again.

- As with the previous re-dos, I intend on giving people a slightly longer period of time to submit than normal. This is meant to give people enough time to submit, and I think it should eliminate any need for the excuse of not having enough time to submit. Let's roll with...Thursday, May 13th at 7pm US Eastern, for now. I reserve the right to change the deadline at any time.

- Important note: I'm copying lyhom's 2001 tag list yet again. If you are not tagged and want to be tagged, make sure to let me know.

Screw it, three hosts for one Hot 100 rankdown. Why not?

Over the course of the first two re-do rankdowns, I've really had my eye on one rankdown in particular, and 2016 and 2014 have basically been the buildup to one of my all-time personal favorite pop years, even if, without the rose-tinted glasses, I realize that there are more holes than I once thought. 2011 only happened ten years ago, but I still have immense nostalgia for the year's pop music, and I have a special relationship with a bunch of songs here, including some that I did not rank very high. It's also a year with a better crop of country songs (for the most part), a strong showing from female pop, and the titanic rise of LMFAO. Oh, and that Adele woman, I think she was successful, too.

I thought about asking one of fearlessarrow or wrip to help co-host once again, but I didn't want to leave either out and wanted to co-host with both of them again...so, I figured, "why not both?" That's right, for the (I believe) first time ever, a Hot 100 rankdown will have three hosts! I have no idea how this will go, but, if the previous re-dos are any indication, there will be some laughs, some pain, and some tears before we get to the finish line.

I hope it's more of the former than the other two, obviously.

I told myself I wasn't going to do any more rankdowns that aren't Unhinged's 1990s Hot 100 year-ends series, but I just have too much of a soft spot for 2011's music. So I guess I'll probably make an exception for this. I probably won't really follow along with the results, but I'll still submit, for old times' sake. I am prepared for a lot of my high ranks to be out early (and this was the year I was much more into the hip-hop or pop-rap), with one of them possibly even being last, given the artist's status.

Since Red didn't post the stock photo of the year, I might as well do so.
Anyway, I just got done looking at 2011 for my own personal blog quite recently, so this year is still fresh in my mind. 2011, while not quite as strong as the year immediately after it, was still a good to great year for music. While definitely past its apex, the Club Boom was still in full swing, with many of the biggest hits of the year being flashy, nightclub-ready bangers. Other brands and styles of Pop were also strong, with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Adele duking it out to see which female popstar was the biggest, Country having one of its best years in the 2010s and Hip-Hop still largely in one non-stop party. Sure, Rock was pretty much dead by this point, and there were still some real duds, but I'd say that 2011 is one of the best years for popular music this side of the year 2000 (alongside 2004 and the aforementioned 2012 at the very least). I should get my list in sometime next week, and I for one am looking forward to seeing how things shake up for this rankdown.

Side Note: Like many Zoomers, I am immensely nostalgic for the Early 2010s. I was in 4th/5th grade in 2011, so I have a lot of fond childhood memories from this year (although I probably consider 2007, 2009 and 2012 more nostalgic). I'm sure this nostalgia comes with being a kid (unless your childhood was particularly shitty), but I still feel like the Early 2010s were a different, less depressing time.

Sent! This is a really nostalgic year for me, it was so hard to rank my top 30, there were too many songs i wanted to be high up. I like my top 60 at least a bit, but from there to 100, i don't really feel anything towards those songs, and some are just bad.

Well, I wasn't planning on doing a B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE this early, but there's been a surprisingly large amount of submissions early, to the point that my other co-hosts haven't even completed their rankings yet. I'm sure they'll get them done in due time, though, I'm not too concerned about that.

As for who is playing the ballot game, besides myself, there's Mayman, Willow Rinadoobee Breakfast, Fire, singingrulebritannia, @matthewlam, @greento, dremolus - solarpunk, Trilogy, willapted33, and filthy! I can't promise that the second update won't be as large as this, either, because I probably won't be touching this thread again until next weekend.

- Six songs have spent every movement in the top ten so far, all being located somewhere in the top 7. No song has spent all of their time in the top three, but one song has been in every top five.

- Three songs have been #1 since the rankdown began, though two songs have accounted for all but one of those movements. Those two songs are also the current top two, with the song at #1 holding a slim five point lead over #2. #5 is within 50 points of #1, though the leads grow larger once you leave the top five.

- As with the first ballot update in 2014, there's a surprising song in the top ten currently, in the lower half of the top ten. There's also at least one song in the bottom 40 that, uh, I would not expect to stay there, to put it mildly. One song is nearly bottom 20, and, if that song stays in that range, it will be one of the most shocking reveals in any H100 RD I can think of.

- Most of the bottom ten is fairly close to one another, but #100 is pretty far away from the rest of the competition, even early. How far? It's 100 points behind #99. It's almost two full rankings behind #90. We're barely above double digits for submissions, and this is already happening.

- Currently, 16 points separate #10 from #11, while less than ten points are keeping #91 from getting out of the bottom ten at the expense of #90.

- THRESHOLDS! THEY'RE HERE AND THEY'RE MEAN (I guess)! #1 is the first song to eclipse 1,000 points, though #2 is not far off. Only the top seven have reached 900 points, while sixteen songs are at 800 points or more. At the bottom end of the rankdown, just one song (obviously, #100) has yet to reach 100 points. Six songs have yet to get to 200 points.

- My personal favorite part of the ballot updates lately have been looking at the standard deviations, and there are some fun ones this update. The current highest SD is located at #31, and let me just say that, if this holds, I think it would be pretty surprising as the highest SD. The second highest SD, currently at #70, would be a little less surprising. Meanwhile, the #100, as you'd expect, with how poorly it's doing, is the current lowest SD, and it's the lowest by a mile. #90 and #91 are not just fighting it out to escape the bottom ten, they're also fighting it out for the title of second lowest SD. Four of the current top five are also somewhere in the top ten lowest SDs.

We have some ties, of course, but there's one fairly notable tie that rises above all of them. In fact, you could say that we may need to SOUND THE ALARM! Our top ten tie is fairly close to the top ten fringes, with nothing separating #9 and #10. We also have ties at #53, #55, #65, and #77.
